The unique property of chirality is widely used in various *** the past few decades,a great deal of research has been conducted on the interactions between light and matter,resulting in significant technical advancements in the precise manipulation of light field *** this review,which focuses on current chiral optics research,we introduce the fundamental theory of chirality and highlight the latest achievements in enhancing chiral signals through artificial nano-manufacturing technology,with a particular focus on mechanisms such as light scattering and Mie resonance used to amplify chiral *** providing an overview of enhanced chiral signals,this review aims to provide researchers with an indepth understanding of chiral phenomena and its versatile applications in various domains.

A Liquid-Metal-Based, Stretchable Inductive Loop Sensor for Muscle Atrophy

We present a sensor toward wearable monitoring of muscle atrophy with improved stretching capabilities and sensing resolution for practical implementation. The operation relies on our previously reported approach, where wrap-around transmit and receive loops at inductive frequencies monitor changes in muscle size via the magnitude and/or phase of the transmission coefficient. The novel aspects of this work entail: 1) a new fabrication approach with stretchable inductive loops made from Gallium Indium eutectic (EGaIn) injected into silicone tubing to improve stretchability, and 2) operation below the defined resonant frequency to improve magnitude resolution of the sensor. Simulation and in vitro measurement results are in excellent agreement. Compared to our previous sensor implementation, the proposed approach: 1) achieves 4.3 times higher stretchability, 2) measures 1.7 times larger muscle volume loss, and 3) improves magnitude resolution by 6 dB. Specifically, we achieve a magnitude and phase resolution of 1.25 dB and 3.8°, respectively, per centimeter of limb circumference, and 0.3 dB and 0.9° per a 1% volume reduction. We also demonstrate repeatable fabrication with a low standard error of 0.19 dB and 0.7°. Because of the improved stretching capabilities and resolution, we can now accurately measure the circumference at any location on the leg of any given member of the population with a single device. Concurrently, this work brings forward innovations in fabricating radio frequency electronics from liquid metals. © 2023 IEEE.

Traditional puppet manipulation systems often require human operators to be physically present in tight and cramped locations. This leads to challenges in the positioning and effective operation of puppets, particularly in the presence of children in educational settings. In this paper, we present the design, development, and integration of a cost-effective robotic system for remotely manipulating puppets in real-time. Additionally, the system integrates a YOLOv8 Pose Detection model, trained on a custom dataset with an accuracy of 91.4%, enabling real-time gesture recognition and allowing the robot to be controlled by imitating the motions of a manually operated puppet. The system demonstrates the potential for many applications, including interactive entertainment, teleoperation, and education. © 2024 IEEE.

Quality Diversity Optimization Method for Bilinear Matrix Inequality Problems in Control system Design

In this paper, a quality diversity optimization method (QDOM) based on an adaptive bound-searching algorithm and diversity-selecting immune algorithm is proposed for solving bilinear matrix inequality (BMI) problems in control system design. By using the proposed adaptive bound-searching algorithm, appropriate bound values can be obtained for the entries of controller gain matrices or the eigenvalues of closed-loop systems represented by a state space model. Given the bound values, the proposed diversity-selecting immune algorithm can produce the best-so-far controller gain for a given BMI problem. To find the global optimum efficiently and avoid being trapped in a local optimum, the concept of quality diversity is employed in the proposed method. The proposed method was validated through solving some spectral abscissa, H2 , and H∞ optimization problems. The simulation results show that the proposed QDOM achieved better or similar performance in many benchmark problems as compared with existing BMI solution methods. © 2013 IEEE.

Metasurfaces: physics and applications in wireless communications

The ever increasing number of wireless devices and systems has led to a crowded spectrum and increased the demand for versatile and multi-functional wireless apparatuses. Recently, metasurfaces have been explored as a prominent technological solution to the current paradigm of spectrum scarcity by opportunistically sharing the spectrum with various users. In general, metasurfaces are passive/dynamic,ultra-compact, multi-functional and programmable structures that are capable of both reciprocal and nonreciprocal signal-wave transmissions. The controllability and programmability of such metasurfaces are governed through DC bias and occasionally a radio-frequency modulation applied to the active components of the unit cells of the metasurface, e.g. diodes and transistors. This article overviews some of the recently proposed passive and dynamic metasurfaces and shows that metasurfaces can enhance the performance of wireless communication systems thanks to their unique physical features such as real-time signal coding,nonreciprocal-beam radiation, nonreciprocal beamsteering amplification and advanced pattern-coding multiple access communication.

Accurate classification of encrypted traffic plays an important role in network ***,current methods confronts several problems:inability to characterize traffic that exhibits great dispersion,inability to classify traffic with multi-level features,and degradation due to limited training traffic *** address these problems,this paper proposes a traffic granularity-based cryptographic traffic classification method,called Granular Classifier(GC).In this paper,a novel Cardinality-based Constrained Fuzzy C-Means(CCFCM)clustering algorithm is proposed to address the problem caused by limited training traffic,considering the ratio of cardinality that must be linked between flows to achieve good traffic ***,an original representation format of traffic is presented based on granular computing,named Traffic Granules(TG),to accurately describe traffic structure by catching the dispersion of different traffic *** granule is a compact set of similar data with a refined boundary by excluding *** on TG,GC is constructed to perform traffic classification based on multi-level *** performance of the GC is evaluated based on real-world encrypted network traffic *** results show that the GC achieves outstanding performance for encrypted traffic classification with limited size of training traffic and keeps accurate classification in dynamic network conditions.

Aggregated DER_A Model Parameterization Via Online Moving Horizon Estimation

This paper introduces a methodology for parameterizing the DER A model using a novel smooth mathematical representation, simplifying the process and preserving accuracy in modeling inverter-based generator (IBG). The methodology employs an online parameterization process that can operate in real-time. The model parameterization process is structured into five sequential steps, each targeting a specific aspect of the DER A model through moving horizon estimation. This approach adapts to systems with varying voltage and frequency support requirements by selectively applying each step. Simulation results on systems with both known and unknown parameters validate the methodologys effectiveness. The online moving horizon estimation technique accurately captures the dynamics of the overall system and ensures that the parameterized DER A model closely mirrors the real systems voltage, current, and power dynamics. The findings highlight the potential of this methodology to substantially improve and simplify the dynamic modeling of power systems, paving the way for more reliable and robust IBG and grid integration. © 2010-2012 IEEE.

Identifying spatiotemporal differences in brain functional dynamics corresponding to two tasks is critical for under-standing how specific neural processes contribute to distinct tasks or cognitive functions. Traditional methods rely on imposing assumptions and limits on the location and timing of activities, while machine-learning-based methods generally lack offering interpretable insights. This highlights the need for new data-driven approaches to capture spatial and temporal differences in brain activity between two tasks, while also providing interpretable explanations of the neural processes underlying these differences. In this work, we formulate the problem of finding the spatial and temporal differences in the dynamics of brain function corresponding to two motor imagery (MI) tasks (left hand movement vs right hand movement) as a discriminative discrete basis problem (DDBP). We apply the data-driven asymmetric discriminative associative algorithm (ADASSO) to EEG data collected during these tasks to uncover the key functional components of the brain's functional dynamics that differentiate between them. Results suggest that hand movements are strongly associated with high-confidence activation in the motor cortex, verifying the effectiveness of the ADASSO algorithm in identifying the location and timing of cortical activities that distinguish between the two task classes. © 2025 IEEE.
