Traditional puppet manipulation systems often require human operators to be physically present in tight and cramped locations. This leads to challenges in the positioning and effective operation of puppets, particularly in the presence of children in educational settings. In this paper, we present the design, development, and integration of a cost-effective robotic system for remotely manipulating puppets in real-time. Additionally, the system integrates a YOLOv8 Pose Detection model, trained on a custom dataset with an accuracy of 91.4%, enabling real-time gesture recognition and allowing the robot to be controlled by imitating the motions of a manually operated puppet. The system demonstrates the potential for many applications, including interactive entertainment, teleoperation, and education. © 2024 IEEE.

In this article, we propose a new algorithm to improve plant recognition through the use of feature descriptors. The accurate results from this identification method are essential for enabling autonomous tasks, such as stem-stake coupling, in precision agriculture. The proposed method divides the input seedling color image into subimages within the International Commission on Illumination, for three color axes, L for lightness, A for the green-red component, and B for the blue-yellow component, color space and extracts seven key feature descriptors for each subimage. It then uses feature descriptors to create a matrix, which is employed to train an artificial neural network to determine optimized cutoff values. This network suggests cutoff values for a multilevel threshold segmentation for plant recognition. The method provides robust and real-time adaptive segmentation adaptable to various seedlings, backgrounds, and lighting conditions. By enabling accurate segmentation of the plant, morphological image processing can more effectively eliminate leaves to locate the seedling stem. This methodology automates image analysis in seedling propagation facilities and greenhouses and enables a wide range of precision agricultural tasks. © 2023 IEEE.

For permanent magnet synchronous machines(PMSMs),accurate inductance is critical for control design and condition *** to magnetic saturation,existing methods require nonlinear saturation model and measurements from multiple load/current conditions,and the estimation is relying on the accuracy of saturation model and other machine parameters in the *** harmonic produced by harmonic currents is inductance-dependent,and thus this paper explores the use of magnitude and phase angle of the speed harmonic for accurate inductance *** estimation models are built based on either the magnitude or phase angle,and the inductances can be from d-axis voltage and the magnitude or phase angle,in which the filter influence in harmonic extraction is considered to ensure the estimation *** inductances can be estimated from the measurements under one load condition,which is free of saturation ***,the inductance estimation is robust to the change of other machine *** proposed approach can effectively improve estimation accuracy especially under the condition with low current *** and comparisons are conducted on a test PMSM to validate the proposed approach.

This article introduces a novel mechatronic system for coupling the stems of seedlings and plants to wooden stakes or ropes, a crucial process for supporting them during growth, transportation, and fruiting in plant propagation facilities and greenhouses. The stem–stake coupling device utilizes interconnected mechanisms and an impedance control method to adjust motor torque and speed, shaping metallic wire into clips of various shapes and dimensions, effectively securing plant stems to stakes or ropes. In a robotic system, a claw-shaped arm mechanism, a stereo camera, and real-time vision techniques are integrated into the stem–stake coupling device to identify the optimal coupling point and automate the coupling task. This innovation addresses the labor-intensive task of manual coupling, offering a scalable solution for growers through handheld devices or fully automated robotic systems. In the context of increasing labor shortages and rising costs, the technology offers a sustainable and efficient alternative with significant potential to enhance operational efficiency in greenhouses and propagation facilities. © 2023 IEEE.

In high-risk industrial environments like nuclear power plants, precise defect identification and localization are essential for maintaining production stability and safety. However, the complexity of such a harsh environment leads to significant variations in the shape and size of the defects. To address this challenge, we propose the multivariate time series segmentation network(MSSN), which adopts a multiscale convolutional network with multi-stage and depth-separable convolutions for efficient feature extraction through variable-length templates. To tackle the classification difficulty caused by structural signal variance, MSSN employs logarithmic normalization to adjust instance distributions. Furthermore, it integrates classification with smoothing loss functions to accurately identify defect segments amid similar structural and defect signal subsequences. Our algorithm evaluated on both the Mackey-Glass dataset and industrial dataset achieves over 95% localization and demonstrates the capture capability on the synthetic dataset. In a nuclear plant's heat transfer tube dataset, it captures 90% of defect instances with75% middle localization F1 score.

A large-area bionic skin for high-temperature energy harvesting applications

For the large amount of waste heat wasted in daily life and industrial production,we propose a new type of flexible thermoelectric generators(F-TEGs)which can be used as a large area bionic skin to achieve energy harvesting of thermal *** reference to biological structures such as pinecone,succulent,and feathers,we have designed and fabricated a biomimetic flexible TEG that can be applied in a wide temperature range which has the highest temperature energy harvesting capability *** laminated free structure of the bionic F-TEG dramatically increases the efficiency and density of energy *** F-TEGs(single TEG only 101.2 mg in weight),without an additional heat sink,demonstrates the highest output voltage density of 286.1 mV/cm^(2)and the maximum power density is 66.5 mW/m^(2) at a temperature difference of nearly 1000℃.The flexible characteristics of F-TEGs make it possible to collect the diffused thermal energy by flexible attachment to the outer walls of high-temperature pipes and vessels of different diameters and *** work shows a new design and application concept for flexible thermal energy collectors,which fills the gap of flexible energy harvesting in high-temperature environment.

Sharing the hardware platform between diverse information systems to establish full cooperation among different functionalities has attracted substantial ***,broadband multifunctional integrated systems with large operating frequency ranges are challenging due to the bandwidth and computing speed restrictions of electronic ***,we report an analog parallel processor(APP)based on the silicon photonic platform that directly discretizes and parallelizes the broadband signal in the analog *** APP first discretizes the signal with the optical frequency comb and then adopts optical dynamic phase interference to reassign the analog signal into 2N parallel *** photonic analog parallelism,data rate and data volume in each sequence are simultaneously compressed,which mitigates the requirement on each parallel computing ***,the fusion of the outputs from each computing core is equivalent to directly processing broadband *** the proof-of-concept experiment,two-channel analog parallel processing of broadband radar signals and high-speed communication signals is implemented on the single photonic integrated *** bandwidth of broadband radar signal is 6 GHz and the range resolution of 2.69 cm is *** wireless communication rate of 8 Gbit/s is also *** the bandwidth and speed limitations of the single-computing core along with further exploring the multichannel potential of this architecture,we anticipate that the proposed APP will accelerate the development of powerful optoelectronic processors as critical support for applications such as satellite networks and intelligent driving.

In the transformative field of mineral processing, the need for innovative technologies to overcome inherent difficulties and a critical shortage of high-quality data is an acute challenge. This study addresses these pressing issues by leveraging advanced spatio-temporal deep learning techniques, specifically Convolutional Long Short-Term Memory (ConvLSTM). Focused on the Zinc flotation circuit at CMG Managem Group in Morocco, our comprehensive approach encompasses meticulous data collection from a real-world industrial setting, rigorous spatial and temporal analyses, practical and accurate data augmentation, and the development of a ConvLSTM model for precise prediction of mineral grades. By capturing the temporal intricacies of froth behavior through video data, we gain insights into mineral concentration fluctuations, a critical aspect of traditional analysis. By offering a comprehensive solution that combines cutting-edge technology, meticulous data analysis, and practical augmentation methods, we aim to elevate not only mineral processing efficiency but also a broader spectrum of resource utilization and sustainable practices. This study offers a promising solution to elevate mineral processing efficiency and accuracy in the face of data limitations.
