WiFi-Diffusion: Achieving Fine-Grained WiFi Radio Map Estimation with Ultra-Low Sampling Rate by Diffusion Models

Fine-grained radio map presents communication parameters of interest, e.g., received signal strength, at every point across a large geographical region. It can be leveraged to improve the efficiency of spectrum utilization for a large area, particularly critical for the unlicensed WiFi spectrum. The problem of fine-grained radio map estimation is to utilize radio samples collected by sparsely distributed sensors to infer the map. This problem is challenging due to the ultra-low sampling rate, where the number of available samples is far less than the fine-grained resolution required for radio map estimation. We propose WiFi-Diffusion – a novel generative framework for achieving fine-grained WiFi radio map estimation using diffusion models. WiFi-Diffusion employs the creative power of generative AI to address the ultra-low sampling rate challenge and consists of three blocks: 1) a boost block, using prior information such as the layout of obstacles to optimize the diffusion model;2) a generation block, leveraging the diffusion model to generate a candidate set of radio maps;and 3) an election block, utilizing the radio propagation model as a guide to find the best radio map from the candidate set. Extensive simulations demonstrate that 1) the fine-grained radio map generated by WiFi-Diffusion is ten times better than those produced by state-of-the-art (SOTA) when they use the same ultra-low sampling rate;and 2) WiFi-Diffusion achieves comparable fine-grained radio map quality with only one-fifth of the sampling rate required by SOTA. Integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) emerges as a promising technology for 6G, particularly in the millimeter-wave (mmWave) band. However, the widely utilized hybrid architecture in mmWave systems compromises multiplexing gain due to the constraints of limited radio-frequency (RF) chains. Moreover, additional sensing functionalities exacerbate the impairment of spectrum efficiency (SE). In this paper, we present an optimized beam pattern modulation-embedded ISAC (BPM-ISAC) transceiver design, which spares one RF chain for sensing and uses the remaining ones for communication. To compensate for the reduced SE, index modulation across communication beams is applied. We formulate an optimization problem aimed at minimizing the mean squared error (MSE) of the sensing beampattern, subject to a symbol MSE constraint. This problem is then solved by sequentially optimizing the analog and digital parts. Both the multi-aperture structure (MAS) and the multi-beam structure (MBS) are considered in the analog part. We conduct theoretical analysis on the asymptotic pairwise error probability (APEP) and the Cramér-Rao bound (CRB) of direction of arrival (DoA) estimation. The growth and modernization of the power system are the keys to enabling economic progress. The deregulation, added to the new emerging production technologies, conversion, and storage, triggered a change in the way of managing the power system worldwide. This work analyses the optimal dispatch of a virtual power plant (VPP) with active participation in the electricity market, considering multi-energy systems. The objective is to minimize the total operating cost of the power plant. The power plant is fed by two external networks: electrical and natural gas. The VPP is composed of energy production, conversion, and storage technologies, also considering the integration of a wind turbine and a set of electric vehicles (EVs). In addition to the Grid-to-Vehicle (G2V) charging, the advantage of Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technology is also verified, which allows the injection of power into the grid through the vehicles and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology, enabling EVs to contribute to the satisfaction of the electrical load, reducing the costs, showing the advantages as well of EVs' integration in the VPP under analysis.

In recent years, various companies have started to shift their data services from traditional data centers to the cloud. One of the major motivations is to save on operational costs with the aid of cloud elasticity. This paper discusses an emerging need from financial services to reduce the incidence of idle servers retaining very few user connections, without disconnecting them from the server side. This paper considers this need as a bi-objective online load balancing problem. A neural network based scalable policy is designed to route user requests to varied numbers of servers for the required elasticity. An evolutionary multi-objective training framework is proposed to optimize the weights of the policy. Not only is the new objective of idleness reduced by over 130% more than traditional industrial solutions, but the original load balancing objective itself is also slightly improved. Extensive simulations with both synthetic and real-world data help reveal the detailed applicability of the proposed method to the emergent problem of reducing idleness in financial services.

Studies have shown that learning personal stories could help provide individualized eldercare services. However, personal stories are often disordered because of the scattered collection, including informal interviews or daily interactions, which brings difficulties in acquiring valuable information quickly. One solution to this problem is to extract events from personal stories and automatically organize them in chronological order. Events extracted by current methods from social media or news corpus are mainly organized in a linear structure. These works usually focus on the event time and ignore the consistency of event contents when organizing events. This paper aims to organize events into a tree structure based on an event network, with stem nodes representing key event topics and branch nodes representing detailed events. Social workers or caregivers can clarify the life experience of the older adults quickly through the event tree and have a preliminary understanding of them. The experiments show that the event tree generated by our method has a better performance in consistency than current event organization methods. A survey study shows that our method achieves the highest logical coherence for the event tree branches compared with other algorithms. © 2022, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

During the coal seam drilling process, the drill string is subject to compressive deformation, compounded by unpredictable variations in formation hardness and borehole wall friction, leading to challenges in maintaining a stable feeding speed. This paper presents a novel approach by introducing uncertain parameters to describe the effects of formation hardness and borehole wall friction. Drill string axial movement model is modeled as a polyhedral system based on a lumped parameter representation. To meet industrial performance requirements, we design a robust $H_{\infty}$ controller to achieve consistent feeding speed control. Our simulation results demonstrate the controller's effectiveness in ensuring system stability despite fluctuations in formation hardness and drill string friction.

Visual-based object detection has become a crucial component in the realm of autonomous vehicles. However, conducting reliable testing for such systems remains unresolved. In this paper, we advocate for the application of causal inference to investigate the pivotal environmental factors influencing detection accuracy. Through the integration of diffusion models, we address the specialized conditional generalization of hazardous testing images. Our approach involves the construction of observational data to attribute key factors and fine-tune the diffusion model. Additionally, we introduce an optimal prompt words search method that strikes a balance between test coverage and level of challenge. Subsequently, leveraging these optimal prompts, we propose a cost-effective testing image generation through both "Text2Scene" and "Image2Scene" fashions. The experimental results indicate that, on the generalized dataset, the performance of object detection algorithms is the poorest, with the average detection accuracy decreasing from 0.81 to 0.285. Moreover, retraining object detection models on our generalized critical test cases can ultimately enhance algorithm performance, achieving a median accuracy improvement of up to 8.13%. Overall, our research proposes a novel approach to generalize test cases, thereby contributing to the advancement and deployment of safer autonomous vehicles.
