Recently, constant-depth quantum circuits are proved more powerful than their classical counterparts at solving certain problems, e.g., the two-dimensional (2D) hidden linear function (HLF) problem regarding a symmetric binary matrix. To further investigate the boundary between classical and quantum computing models, in this work we propose a high-performance two-stage classical scheme to solve a full-sampling variant of the 2D HLF problem, which combines traditional classical parallel algorithms and a gate-based classical circuit model together for exactly simulating the target shallow quantum circuits. Under reasonable parameter assumptions, a theoretical analysis reveals our classical simulator consumes less runtime than that of near-term quantum processors for most problem instances. Furthermore, we demonstrate the typical all-connected 2D grid instances by moderate FPGA circuits, and show our designed parallel scheme is a practically scalable, high-efficient and operationally convenient tool for simulating and verifying graph-state circuits performed by current quantum hardware. © 2021, CC BY.

When a charged particle penetrates through an optical interface, photon emissions emerge—a phenomenon known as transition radiation. Being paramount to fundamental physics, transition radiation has enabled many applications from high-energy particle identification to novel light sources. A rule of thumb in transition radiation is that the radiation intensity generally decreases with the decrease of particle velocity v; as a result, low-energy particles are not favored in practice. Here, we find that there exist situations where transition radiation from particles with extremely low velocities (e.g., v/c<10−3) exhibits comparable intensity as that from high-energy particles (e.g., v/c=0.999), where c is the light speed in free space. The comparable radiation intensity implies an extremely high photon extraction efficiency from low-energy particles, up to 8 orders of magnitude larger than that from high-energy particles. This exotic phenomenon of low-velocity-favored transition radiation originates from the interference of the excited Ferrell-Berreman modes in an ultrathin epsilon-near-zero slab. Our findings may provide a promising route toward the design of integrated light sources based on low-energy electrons and specialized detectors for beyond-standard-model particles.

Over the past two decades, synchronization, as an interesting collective behavior of complex dynamical networks, has been attracting much attention. To reveal and analyze the inherent mechanism of synchronization in complex dynamical networks with time delays in nodes, this paper attempts to use PD and PI control protocols to achieve synchronization. Based on a classical network model, we investigate the PD and PI control for synchronization of complex dynamical networks with delayed nodes and obtain some sufficient conditions. By using Lyapunov functions and appropriate state transformations, we prove that global synchronization can be achieved via the above control protocols. Finally, some simulation examples are illustrated to validate the effectiveness of the proposed theoretical results.

This paper develops a matrix-separation-based Lyapunov functional method to study the extended dissipativity analysis and synthesis issue of discrete-time Lur'e-type delayed systems. The advanced idea of matrix-separation is reflected in Lyapunov functional candidates and estimates summation terms as precisely as feasible. First, we introduce a novel summation inequality based on the matrix-separation method to provide a bound for the augmented summation that involves common state variables. An improved delay-product-type Lyapunov functional is devised by extending non-positive definite summations as separate subblocks of the state-augmented summation. Then, by using the matrix injection method to handle the cubic delay term in the functional forward difference, a delay-variation-dependent stability criterion and an extended dissipativity criterion are developed under the matrix-separation-based method. Subsequently, sufficient conditions for the control design of Lur'e-type systems are derived. Finally, the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed method are verified through its application to Chua's circuits, neural networks, and a stochastic numerical example. © 2025 The Author(s). Debugging is a well-known time-consuming task, and knowing how long it would take to resolve bugs is of great importance for allocating the limited resources in a software development team. However, it is challenging to predict bug fixing time since fixing bugs is subject to a plethora of uncertain factors such as types of bugs, program complexity and developers' abilities. Existing work mainly focuses on developers' activities in a bug lifecycle and ignores other important factors. In light of the limitations of existing work, we propose a novel approach to predicting the bug fixing time by incorporating a comprehensive set of relevant features. Specifically, we consider four types of features including developers' activities, developers' sentiments, semantics of bugs, and efforts caused by understanding and analyzing source code, and design particular neural networks to take advantage of these features and make them work efficiently. Experimental results on four real application datasets demonstrate that on the one hand, our approach outperforms the state-of-the-art by over 5% in accuracy and 7.3% in F1-score on average; on the other hand, each type of the features considered in our approach plays an important part in the prediction.

Blockchain(BC),as an emerging distributed database technology with advanced security and reliability,has attracted much attention from experts who devoted to efinance,intellectual property protection,the internet of things(IoT)and so ***,the inefficient transaction processing speed,which hinders the BC’s widespread,has not been well tackled *** this paper,we propose a novel architecture,called Dual-Channel Parallel Broadcast model(DCPB),which could address such a problem to a greater extent by using three methods which are dual communication channels,parallel pipeline processing and block broadcast *** the dual-channel model,one channel processes transactions,and the other engages in the execution of *** parallel pipeline processing allows the system to operate *** block generation strategy improves the efficiency and speed of *** experiments have been applied to BeihangChain,a simplified prototype for BC system,illustrates that its transaction processing speed could be improved to 16K transaction per second which could well support many real-world scenarios such as BC-based energy trading system and Micro-film copyright trading system in CCTV.

The mobility status of vehicles play a crucial role in most tasks of Autonomous Vehicles (AVs) and Intelligent Transportation System (ITS). To operate securely, a precise, stable and robust mobility tracking system is essential. Compared with self-tracking that relies only on mobility observations from on-board sensors (e.g. Global Positioning System (GPS), Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) and camera), cooperative tracking increases the precision and reliability of mobility data greatly by integrating observations from road side units and nearby vehicles through V2X communications. Nevertheless, cooperative tracking can be quite vulnerable if there are malicious collaborators sending bogus observations in the network. In this paper, we present a dynamic sequential detection algorithm, dynamic model based mean state detection (DMMSD), to exclude bogus mobility data. Simulations validate the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed algorithm as compared with existing approaches.

Pathological myopia (PM) is the leading ocular disease for impaired vision worldwide. Clinically, the characteristic of pathology distribution in PM is global-local on the fundus image, which plays a significant role in assisting clinicians in diagnosing PM. However, most existing deep neural networks focused on designing complex architectures but rarely explored the pathology distribution prior of PM. To tackle this issue, we propose an efficient pyramid channel attention (EPCA) module, which fully leverages the potential of the clinical pathology prior of PM with pyramid pooling and multi-scale context fusion. Then, we construct EPCA-Net for automatic PM recognition based on fundus images by stacking a sequence of EPCA modules. Moreover, motivated by the recent pretraining-and-finetuning paradigm, we attempt to adapt pre-trained natural image models for PM recognition by freezing them and treating the EPCA and other attention modules as adapters. In addition, we construct a PM recognition benchmark termed PM-fundus by collecting fundus images of PM from publicly available datasets. The comprehensive experiments demonstrate the superiority of EPCA-Net over state-of-the-art methods in the PM recognition task. For example, EPCA-Net achieves 97.56% accuracy and outperforms ViT by 2.85% accuracy on the PM-fundus dataset. The results also show that our method based on the pretraining-and-finetuning paradigm achieves competitive performance through comparisons to part of previous methods based on traditional fine-tuning paradigm with fewer tunable parameters, which has the potential to leverage more natural image foundation models to address the PM recognition task in limited medical data regime. Cervical cancer is the fourth most common gynecological malignant cancer in the world. It presents one of the principal causes of cancer death in women. Treatment planning depends on the cancer stage (tumor size, nodal status, and local extension), which can be identified using magnetic resonance imaging. For effective cancer diagnosis and prognosis, automated segmentation methods of cervical tumor are highly desired as they can alleviate the burden of manual segmentation. However, typical automatic segmentation methods, including deep learning methods (e.g., Convolutional Neural Networks - CNN), might fail due to intensity inhomogeneity, poor contrast, and noise present in medical images. As a solution, the performance of such methods can be boosted by using an automated image preprocessing framework. This paper first proposes an ensemble preprocessing method to improve the performance of a CNN for cervical cancer segmentation. Specifically, we propose a histogram-based, smoothing and sharpening-based, and morphological image processing methods. Then, we devise three CNNs with the same architecture. Each CNN is trained independently using each of the three proposed preprocessed datasets. For evaluation, we used leave-one-out cross-validation, where a left-out testing image sample passes through each CNN to output a probability segmentation map. Ultimately, through applying majority voting to the three outputted segmentation maps, we get the final label map. Our method significantly ( ) outperformed benchmark methods with a classification accuracy increasing from 74.1% by single CNN with no-processing to 76.8% by applying the majority voting to the three CNNs with different preprocessing methods.

The worldwide adoption of cloud data centers (CDCs) has given rise to the ubiquitous demand for hosting application services on the cloud. Further, contemporary data-intensive industries have seen a sharp upsurge in the resource requirements of modern applications. This has led to the provisioning of an increased number of cloud servers, giving rise to higher energy consumption and, consequently, sustainability concerns. Traditional heuristics and reinforcement learning based algorithms for energy-efficient cloud resource management address the scalability and adaptability related challenges to a limited extent. Existing work often fails to capture dependencies across thermal characteristics of hosts, resource consumption of tasks and the corresponding scheduling decisions. This leads to poor scalability and an increase in the compute resource requirements, particularly in environments with non-stationary resource demands. To address these limitations, we propose an artificial intelligence (AI) based holistic resource management technique for sustainable cloud computing called HUNTER. The proposed model formulates the goal of optimizing energy efficiency in data centers as a multi-objective scheduling problem, considering three important models: energy, thermal and cooling. HUNTER utilizes a Gated Graph Convolution Network as a surrogate model for approximating the Quality of Service (QoS) for a system state and generating optimal scheduling decisions. Experiments on simulated and physical cloud environments using the CloudSim toolkit and the COSCO framework show that HUNTER outperforms state-of-the-art baselines in terms of energy consumption, SLA violation, scheduling time, cost and temperature by up to 12, 35, 43, 54 and 3 percent respectively. © 2021, CC BY.
