ChatGPT, an AI-based chatbot, offers coherent and useful replies based on analysis of large volumes of data. In this article, leading academics, scientists, distinguish researchers and engineers discuss the transformative effects of ChatGPT on modern education. This research discusses ChatGPT capabilities and its use in the education sector, identifies potential concerns and challenges. Our preliminary evaluation shows that ChatGPT perform differently in different subject areas including finance, coding, maths, and general public queries. While ChatGPT has the ability to help educators by creating instructional content, offering suggestions and acting as an online educator to learners by answering questions, transforming education through smartphones and IoT gadgets, and promoting group work, there are clear drawbacks in its use, such as the possibility of producing inaccurate or false data and circumventing duplicate content (plagiarism) detectors where originality is essential. The often reported "hallucinations" within GenerativeAI in general, and also relevant for ChatGPT, can render its use of limited benefit where accuracy is essential. What ChatGPT lacks is a stochastic measure to help provide sincere and sensitive communication with its users. Academic regulations and evaluation practices used in educational institutions need to be updated, should ChatGPT be used as a tool in education. To address the transformative effects of ChatGPT on the learning environment, educating teachers and students alike about its capabilities and limitations will be crucial. © 2023 The Authors

As the adoption for electric vehicles (EV) increases, the need for proper charging infrastructure also increases. As such, it is necessary to ensure proper charging infrastructure to meet the charging demand. Hence, studies concerning the planning of EV charging stations which include the sizing of distributed energy resources (DERs) in the station to reduce the peak demand on the grid. In this paper, EV charging stations were designed keeping in mind factors such as the EV charging load profile (on demand charging versus deferred charging), uncertainties in the load profile as well as the tariff rates. A sensitivity analysis was also carried out in order to examine the impact of several techno-economic parameters on the overall cost of the system.

There is growing interest in e-mobility which is not only limited to electric vehicles but also mass transit systems, heavy duty vehicles, off-road vehicles and so on. With the intense focus on sustainability and achieving net zero emissions, most transit systems will be electrified. The impact of mass transit electrification on the existing power system needs a thorough and detailed analysis. Also, the upgrade from fuel powered transit systems to electric transit systems needs to be done with minimal changes to the existing power network and maximum utilization of available resources in the transit system. Therefore, the study of electric transit systems, its impact on the power system and challenges that can arise from electrifying railways are presented in this paper.

The emerging neurorehabilitation technology, Brain-computer Interface (BCI), provides a novel prospect for stroke recovery. However, decoding brain activity during the movement present substantial challenges, and feature extraction is crutial to build a better decoder. In this study the CEBRA method were employed to extract features first based on electroencephalogram(EEG) data during Motor Execution(ME) and Motor lmagery (Ml) tasks for 20 participants (including 10 stroke patients). The results revealed that, in MI tasks, CEBRA-RF (Random Forests) achieved an average classification accuracy of 91.33%, with an average F1-score of 91.19%, and CEBRA-SVM (Support Vector Machine) achieved an average classification accuracy of 91.32%, with an average F1-score of 90.83%. The inspection of products and assessment of quality is connected with high costs and time effort in many industrial domains. This also applies to the forestry industry. Utilizing state-of-the-art deep learning models allows automizing the analysis of wooden piles in a vision-based manner. In this work, a parallel two-step approach is presented for the segmentation and multi-facet classification of individual logs, according to the wood type and quality. The present approach is based on a preliminary log localization step and like this allows determining the quality, volume and also the value of individual logs, respectively the whole wooden pile. Using a YOLOv4 model for wood species classification for douglas firs, pines and larches results in an accuracy of 74.53%, while a quality classification model for spruce logs reaches 86.58%. In addition to that, the trained U-NET segmentation model reaches an accuracy of 93%. In the future, the underlying data set and models will be further improved and integrated to a mobile application for the on site analysis of wooden piles by foresters. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Odour source localization is crucial in life-saving scenarios like pinpointing gas leaks, detecting explosives, searching for earthquake survivors, or locating fires at their origin. The turbulent character of natural environments makes this task very challenging. The absolute concentration of odour plumes carries little meaning and these plumes are only encountered in an intermittent, transient fashion. However, navigation algorithms that are driven by odour encounter events, can successfully find odour sources by extracting spatiotemporal information. The event driven nature of odour plumes motivates a fully event-driven sensing and processing pipeline for robot navigation. Hence, we developed a spiking neural network, implemented on neuromorphic hardware, that can successfully decode odour-puff direction from a pair of enose-systems. This is to our knowledge the first fully event driven neuromorphic system for odour localization.

The performance of a battery pack is greatly affected by an imbalance between the cells. Cell balancing is a very important criterion for Battery Management System (BMS) to operate properly. This paper presents the various cell balancing topologies which have been presented by various researchers in the past years. A novel topology has also been discussed, which improves the overall efficiency of the components being used. Various comparison parameters such as Control, Speed, Efficiency, Power Effects, Manufacturability, Size, and Cost have been considered.
