It is common in organizational contexts and in law to apply a decision-scope approach to decision making. Higher organization levels set a decision scope within which lower organization levels may operate. In case of conflict the regulations and rules of a higher level (e.g. European Union) take precedence over those of a lower level (e.g. a member state). This approach can also be beneficially applied to the specialization of the most important kind of business rules in information systems, action rules. Such rules define under which conditions certain actions may, must not, or need to be taken. Applying the decision scope approach to business process modeling based on BPMN means that business rules should not be buried in decision tasks but be made explicit at the flow level. This requires a rethinking of the current BPMN modeling paradigm in that several aspects in conditional flow so far modeled jointly are separately captured: (a) potential ordering of tasks, (b) conditions under which a task may or may not be invoked, and (c) conditions under which a particular task needs to be invoked. Rather than re-defining BPMN as such, an appropriate extension may be provided on-top of BPMN and mapped to standard BPMN primitives. Applying the decision scope approach to active data warehousing, where analysis rules express actionable knowledge, requires to consider two alternative hierarchies: (1) hierarchies of sets of points at the same granularity and (2) the roll-up hierarchy of points in multi-dimensional space. This paper presents the decision scope approach, outlines how it complements inheritance and specialization approaches typically followed in objectoriented systems, and introduces consistency rules for business rule specialization as well as auto-correction rules, which rectify an inconsistent lower-level business rule such that it becomes consistent with higherlevel business rules. © 2013, Australian Computer Society, Inc.

smart FIX is a product portfolio for knowledge based extraction of data from any document format. The system automatically determines the document type and extracts all relevant data for the respective business process. Data that is unreliably recognized is forwarded to a verification workplace for manual checking. In general, users have no difficulties to interpret the document data and wonder why the system needs additional input. For that reason, we implemented an explanation component that is used to justify extraction results, thus, increasing confidence of users. The component is using a semantic log making it possible to provide understandable explanations. We illustrate the benefits of that kind of technology in contrast to the current smart FIX Log Viewer by means of a preliminary user experiment. © 2012 IEEE.

A group key agreement (GKA) protocol allows a set of users to establish a common secret via open networks. Observing that a major goal of GKAs for most applications is to establish a confiDential channel among group members, we revisit the group key agreement definition and distinguish the conventional (symmetric) group key agreement from asymmetric group key agreement (ASGKA) protocols. Instead of a common secret key, only a shared encryption key is negotiated in an ASGKA protocol. This encryption key is accessible to attackers and corresponds to different decryption keys, each of which is only computable by one group member. We propose a generic construction of one-round ASGKAs based on a new primitive referred to as aggregatable signaturebased broadcast (ASBB), in which the public key can be simultaneously used to verify signatures and encrypt messages while any signature can be used to decrypt ciphertexts under this public key. Using bilinear pairings, we realize an efficient ASBB scheme equippe d with useful properties. Following the generic construction, we instantiate a one-round ASGKA protocol tightly reduced to the decision Bilinear Diffie-Hellman Exponentiation (BDHE) assumption in the standard model. © International Association for Cryptologic research 2009.

This paper deals with the problem of constructing an intelligent Focused Crawler, i.e. a system that is able to retrieve documents of a specific topic from the Web. The crawler must contain a component which assigns visiting priorities to the links, by estimating the probability of leading to a relevant page in the future. Reinforcement Learning was chosen as a method that fits this task nicely, as it provides a method for rewarding intermediate states to the goal. Initial results show that a crawler trained with Reinforcement Learning is able to retrieve relevant documents after a small number of steps.
