Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers in women worldwide, and early detection can significantly reduce the mortality rate of breast cancer. It is crucial to take multiscale information of tissue structure into account in the detection of breast cancer. And thus, it is the key to design an accurate computer-aided detection (CAD) system to capture multi-scale contextual features in a cancerous tissue. In this work, we present a novel graph convolutional neural network for histopathological image classification of breast cancer. The new method, named multi-scale graph wavelet neural network (MS-GWNN), leverages the localization property of spectral graph wavelet to perform multi-scale analysis. By aggregating features at different scales, MS-GWNN can encode the multi-scale contextual interactions in the whole pathological slide. Experimental results on two public datasets demonstrate the superiority of the proposed method. Moreover, through ablation studies, we find that multi-scale analysis has a significant impact on the accuracy of cancer diagnosis. © 2020, CC BY-NC-SA.

Formation-containment control problems for general linear multi-agent systems with time-varying delays and switching topologies are studied. The leaders are required to accomplish a given time-varying formation and the followers are allowed to enter the convex envelope spanned by those of the leaders simultaneously. Firstly, formation-containment protocols based on distributed state observer with switching interaction topologies and time-varying delays are presented for leaders and followers respectively, where an edge-based state observer is presented for each follower to estimate the whole states of all the leaders under the influences of switching interaction topologies and time-varying delays. Then, formation- containment problems are transformed into asymptotic stability problems. Furthermore, an algorithm to determine the gain matrices in the protocols is given based on linear matrix inequality technique and common Lyapunov-Krasovskii stability theory. Sufficient conditions for multi-agent systems to achieve formation-containment under the designed protocol are proposed. Finally, numerical simulations are provided to demonstrate theoretical results.

Cooperative bi-path metric for few-shot learning

Given base classes with sufficient labeled samples, the target of few-shot classification is to recognize unlabeled samples of novel classes with only a few labeled samples. Most existing methods only pay attention to the relationship between labeled and unlabeled samples of novel classes, which do not make full use of information within base classes. In this paper, we make two contributions to investigate the few-shot classification problem. First, we report a simple and effective baseline trained on base classes in the way of traditional supervised learning, which can achieve comparable results to the state of the art. Second, based on the baseline, we propose a cooperative bi-path metric for classification, which leverages the correlations between base classes and novel classes to further improve the accuracy. Experiments on two widely used benchmarks show that our method is a simple and effective framework, and a new state of the art is established in the few-shot classification field. DSRGAN: Explicitly learning disentangled representation of underlying structure and rendering for image generation without tuple supervision

We focus on explicitly learning disentangled representation for natural image generation, where the underlying spatial structure and the rendering on the structure can be independently controlled respectively, yet using no tuple supervision. The setting is significant since tuple supervision is costly and sometimes even unavailable. However, the task is highly unconstrained and thus ill-posed. To address this problem, we propose to introduce an auxiliary domain which shares a common underlying-structure space with the target domain, and we make a partially shared latent space assumption. The key idea is to encourage the partially shared latent variable to represent the similar underlying spatial structures in both domains, while the two domain-specific latent variables will be unavoidably arranged to present renderings of two domains respectively. This is achieved by designing two parallel generative networks with a common Progressive Rendering Architecture (PRA), which constrains both generative networks' behaviors to model shared underlying structure and to model spatially dependent relation between rendering and underlying structure. Thus, we propose DSRGAN (GANs for Disentangling Underlying Structure and Rendering) to instantiate our method. We also propose a quantitative criterion (the Normalized Disentanglability) to quantify disentanglability. Understanding human mobility patterns at the point-of-interest (POI) scale plays an important role in enhancing business intelligence in mobile environments. While large efforts have been made in this direction, most studies simply utilize POI check-ins to mine the concerned mobility patterns, the effectiveness of which is usually hindered due to data sparsity. To obtain better POI-based human mobility for mining, in this paper, we strive to directly annotate the POIs associated with raw user-generated mobility records. We propose a neural context fusion approach which integrates various context factors in people's POI-visiting behaviors. Our approach evaluates the preference and transition factors via representation learning. Notably, we incorporate an attention mechanism to deal with the randomized transitions in raw mobility. The domain knowledge factors, i.e., distance, time and popularity, remain effective and our approach further includes them from a data-driven perspective. Factors are automatically fused with a feed-forward neural network. Furthermore, we exploit a multi-head architecture to enhance the model expressiveness. Using two real-life data sets, we conduct our experimental study and find that our approach consistently outperforms the state-of-the-art baselines by at least 32 percent in accuracy. Besides, we demonstrate the utility of the obtained POI-based human mobility with a POI recommendation example.

We study the problem of leveraging the syntactic structure of text to enhance pre-trained models such as BERT and RoBERTa. Existing methods utilize syntax of text either in the pre-training stage or in the fine-tuning stage, so that they suffer from discrepancy between the two stages. Such a problem would lead to the necessity of having human-annotated syntactic information, which limits the application of existing methods to broader scenarios. To address this, we present a model that utilizes the syntax of text in both pre-training and fine-tuning stages. Our model is based on Transformer with a syntax-aware attention layer that considers the dependency tree of the text. We further introduce a new pre-training task of predicting the syntactic distance among tokens in the dependency tree. We evaluate the model on three downstream tasks, including relation classification, entity typing, and question answering. Results show that our model achieves state-of-the-art performance on six public benchmark datasets. We have two major findings. First, we demonstrate that infusing automatically produced syntax of text improves pre-trained models. Second, global syntactic distances among tokens bring larger performance gains compared to local head relations between contiguous tokens. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. All rights reserved.

American scientist Adelman first used DNA molecules to solve the NP-complete problem, thus creating a new research field. As an advanced interdisciplinary subject, it has attracted many scholars because of its high parallelism, great storage density and low energy consumption. DNA sequence design is critical in the field of DNA computing. The success of DNA computing depends on the quality of DNA sequence. In this paper, we proposed an improved gravitational search algorithm for DNA sequence design. We improved the gravitational coefficient and introduced chaotic system and Gaussian mutation to the position update of the particles. We compared the result from our improved algorithm with the result obtained by other algorithms. The result shows that our proposed algorithm can generate high quality DNA sequence for DNA computing. © 2019 IEEE.

Messaging system as a communicating infrastructure is a safety-critical component of autonomous vehicles. For the purpose of safety certification of Level 4 autonomous driving systems, its necessary to provide a formally verified specification of messaging systems. This paper presents a realistic case study using the PiCore rely-guarantee framework to formally verify the DGPS (Differential Global Positioning System) of UISEE autonomous driving systems. We first create an axiom model of messaging systems by extending PiCore, which is reusable for concrete applications. The model supports dynamic configuration of message buffers as well as the automatic generation of the rely and guarantee conditions for compositional reasoning. It is instantiated when developing the formal specification of DGPS. Then, we use the rely-guarantee proof system of PiCore to verify the functional correctness and invariant of DGPS. The specification and its proof provide a strong evidence for the ongoing safety certification of DGPS.
