In recent years, chronic pain relief by inducing endogenous opioids has attracted attention. One mechanism for inducing endogenous opioids is electrical stimulation of the C nerve near the fascia. However, the feasibility of non-invasive selective stimulation by transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) has yet to be studied. In this study, we proposed a novel TENS waveform identification method for selective C nerve stimulation. The method consists of a surrogate model learned from a TENS multi-tissue conduction model implemented with a finite element, and an optimization process for fast and extensive exploration of different stimulation waveforms, which is enabled by the surrogate model. The results showed that transcutaneous pulse stimulation with a carrier frequency of 100 Hz showed better selectivity of the C nerve than near-myofascial pulse stimulation in comparison with other frequencies investigated. At this frequency, the current density near the nerve contains a damper component added to the original transcutaneous waveform for dealing with the capacitance effect of the biological tissue. By leveraging this active damper effect using a suitable pre-pulse at the rising edge of the transcutaneous pulse, it was possible to improve the selectivity of the C fiber as a step toward realizing TENS for chronic pain relief. © 2023 International Union of Radio Science.

Secret Image Sharing (SIS) is the technology that shares any given secret image by generating and distributing n shadow images in the way that any subset of k shadow images can restore the secret image. However, in the existing SIS schemes, the shadow images will be easily tampered and corrupted during the communication, which will pose serious security issues. Recently, blockchain has emerged as a promising paradigm in the field of data communication and information security. To securely communicate and effectively protect the secret image data in wireless networks, we propose a Blockchain-based Secure and Efficient Secret Image Sharing (BC-SESIS) scheme with outsourcing computation in wireless networks. In the proposed BC-SESIS scheme, the shadow images are encrypted and stored in the blockchain to prevent them from being tampered and corrupted. The identity authentication-enabled smart contract is deployed to achieve the (k,n) threshold for secret image restoring. Furthermore, to reduce the computational burden of smart contract and users, an efficient outsourcing computation method is designed to outsource the restoring task, which is securely implemented by agent miners in the encryption domain. Theoretical analysis and extensive experiments demonstrate that the BC-SESIS scheme can achieve desirable communication security and high computational efficiency in the wireless networks. © 2023 IEEE.

The paper presents an optimizable multiplexer combination in logic synthesis of RTL level circuits. There are often some redundant multiplexers in the circuit, the deletion or optimization of these multiplexers does not affect the design behavior of circuits. Therefore, we propose a special multiplexer combination. It can be optimized on the premise that the logic function of the circuit remains unchanged, and it can also be merged with other traditional optimizable multiplexers to further optimize the circuit. In the paper, we use examples to optimize and verify, the results show that the optimizable combination can effectively reduce the number of multiplexers, The results show that the optimizable combination can significantly reduce the number of multiplexer elements, and appears more frequently and probably in the circuit. The optimizable combination is feasible and practical in the logic synthesis of circuits, which can effectively reduce the number of elements and design scale of the circuit.

The aging of the worldwide population has led to a growing prevalence of vascular diseases, negatively impacting national healthcare systems and patients. The application of information technologies in the health sector has the potential to allow the remote monitoring of patients and the personalization of healthcare. This work proposes the architecture for a remote monitoring platform that supports the self-management of vascular diseases in the context of the Inno4Health project, with the goal of stimulating the innovation in the continuous monitoring of the patients’ health. The platform aims to support health professionals and patients with vascular diseases through the continuous monitoring of their health condition and presentation of monitoring reports. Self-management tools will be provided to patients through the presentation of personalized recommendations adapted to their current health condition. By doing so, we believe it will be possible to improve the patients’ self-management of their disease as well as decrease the risk of disease-related complications. © 2021, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Techniques aimed at the non-invasive characterization of soft tissues according to elastic properties are rapidly evolving. Virtual touch-based elastographic methods including acoustic radiation force imaging (ARFI) and optical elastography measure the peak axial displacement (PD) and time-to-peak-displacement (TTP) of tissue in response to a localized force. These measurements have been used clinically to differentiate tissues, albeit with mixed results. However, to date, the reason has not been fully understood. In this study, we apply a novel modeling approach to explore the mechanistic link between simplistic displacement measurements and tissue viscoelasticity in the application of virtual touch-based elastographic methods to staging chronic liver disease (CLD). To our knowledge, such a study has not been reported in the literature. Specifically, a numerical screening study was first conducted to identify factors that most strongly determine PD and TTP. Response surface experimental designs were then applied to these factors to produce meta-models of expected PD and TTP probability density functions (PDFs) as functions of identified factors. Results from the screening study suggest that both PD and TTP measurements are primarily influenced by three factors: the initial Young’s modulus of the tissue, the first viscoelastic Prony series time constant, and pre-compression applied during acquisition. To investigate the implications of these results, stochastic inputs for these three factors associated were used to determine a robust response surface. The identified response surface methodology can be used to determine optimal cutoff values for PD and TTP that could be used in order to stage chronic liver disease. © 2021 SPIE

The average model of DC-DC converters is commonly used to analyze the control stability and dynamics of switched-mode converters. Although the average model of the boost converter (BC) in the continuous conduction mode (CCM) and the discontinuous conduction modes (DCM) is well-covered in the literature, the modelling and control of the DCM-operated BC with the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) has not been paid much attention. In this paper, a comprehensive state-space averaged model of DCM-operated BC fed by photovoltaic (PV) source is derived. Higher-order, lower-order, reduced-order, and full-order models are considered. MATLAB simulation is used to verify the derived models. The converter dynamics were analyzed based on the bode-plot and the step-response for each model. Results show that the lower-full-order model is considered the most suitable choice for modelling the DCM-operated boost converter.

This paper presents time-series polarimetric decomposition images over rice paddy field observed by advanced Land Observing Satellite 2 (ALOS2) /Phased Array type L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar (PALSAR2). When planting row in paddy field is parallel to the orbit, the scattering phenomena throughout year exhibit significant changes according to the rice growing stage on the bare surface situation. The polarimetric observation data have been processed by G4U decomposition method which extracts the surface scattering and the double bounce scattering very distinctively. The decomposition images show significant seasonal changes of rice paddy field by the capability of polarimetric synthetic aperture radar (PolSAR) data.

Gastric cancer(GC)is one of the most common cancers and ranks the third in cancer mortality all over the *** goal of this study was to identify potential hub-genes,highlighting their functions,signaling pathways,and candidate drugs for the treatment of GC *** used publicly available next generation sequencing(NGS)data to identify differentially expressed(DE)*** top DE genes were mapped to STRING database to construct the protein-protein interaction(PPI)network and top hub genes were selected for further *** found a total of 1555 DE genes with 870 upregulated and 685 downregulated genes in *** selected the top 400(200 upregulated and 200 downregulated)genes to construct a PPI network and extracted the top 15 hub *** gene ontology(GO)term and kyoto encyclopedia of genes and genomes(KEGG)pathway enrichment analyses of the 15 hub genes exposed some important functions and signaling pathways that were significantly associated with GC *** survival analysis of the hub genes disclosed that the lower expressions of the three hub genes CDH2,COL4A1,and COL5A2 were associated with better survival of GC *** three genes might be the candidate biomarkers for the diagnosis and treatment of ***,we considered 3 key proteins(genomic biomarkers)(COL4A1,CDH2,and CO5A2)as the drug target proteins(receptors),performed their docking analysis with the 102 meta-drug agents,and found Everolimus,Docetaxel,Lanreotide,Venetoclax,Temsirolimus,and Nilotinib as the top ranked 6 candidate drugs with respect to our proposed target proteins for the treatment against GC ***,the proposed drugs might play vital role for the treatment against GC patients.
