In the past few years, many peer-to-peer microblogging solutions have been proposed and/or implemented utilizing various technologies such as DHTs, multicast trees, and/or gossip protocols. These previous works address the issue of privacy and performance in a variety of ways including the use of session keys for message encryption or direct connections for low latency communication. We propose a decentralized microblogging service which takes advantage of available peer-to-peer virtual private networking (P2PVPN) technologies which provide privacy and low-latency communication in the common case of P2P messaging among social peers. Leveraging the private IP connectivity of P2PVPNs, our design utilizes both IP multicasting and random walks to ensure that peers are able to publish messages with varying degree of scope (i.e. friends, friends of friends, and/or the public). We study the implications of our data dissemination mechanism for a decentralized microblogging service through simulation-based analysis based on synthetic social graphs. Overall, our experimental results show that peers can effectively follow each other's updates with acceptable overhead. Through the use of our pseudo-random-walk algorithm, we estimate that, in a 900K social graph, with a TTL of 100, a user can retreive updates from anyone in the social graph 55% of the time, but by increasing the TTL to 400 that hit rate increases to 95%.

The objective of this work is to design a new method to solve the problem of integrating the Vapnik theory, as regards support vector machines, in the field of clustering data. For this we turned to bio-inspired meta-heuristics. Bio-inspired approaches aim to develop models resolving a class of problems by drawing on patterns of behavior developed in ethology. For instance, the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) is one of the latest and widely used methods in this regard. Inspired by this paradigm we propose a new method for clustering. The proposed method PSvmC ensures the best separation of the unlabeled data sets into two groups. It aims specifically to explore the basic principles of SVM and to combine it with the meta-heuristic of particle swarm optimization to resolve the clustering problem. Indeed, it makes a contribution in the field of analysis of multivariate data. Obtained results present groups as homogeneous as possible. Indeed, the intra-class value is more efficient when comparing it to those obtained by Hierarchical clustering, Simple K-means and EM algorithms for different database of benchmark.

Microblogging services such as Twitter have become an indispensable communication tool on the Internet. However, due to their centralized nature, microblogging services have been susceptible to blocking by governments and powerful groups. To address this issue, we present a peer-to-peer microblogging service that is resistant to government intrusions and censorship. The strength of our design lies in the fact that we leverage trusted, peer-to-peer connections for the dissemination of information. Our proposed design consists mainly of two key components: a microblogging service which uses UDP and IP multicasting to push and pull updates, and a peer-to-peer VPN (SocialVPN) which enable IP multicasting over the Internet and provide direct IP connectivity among social peers. We also implemented and deployed a prototype to show the feasibility of our approach.

Business process outsourcing has regained further attention with the emergence of Cloud computing. In fact, enterprises can benefit from the cloud at the service (i.e., business), the platform and/or the infrastructure levels. Face to these various benefits, an enterprise that desires to outsource and/or deploy parts of its business process in the Cloud must resolve two decisional points: which part of its business process to outsource, which Cloud and which level of the Cloud environment are the most beneficial. The resolution of these decisional points must take into account several contextual factors that are specific to each enterprise. This paper presents the elements of enterprise context that influence the decision whether to outsource or not in a Cloud environment. In addition, it shows how AHP can be used to assist manager in taking their decision.

Remote offloading techniques have been proposed to overcome the limited resources of mobile platforms by leveraging external powerful resources such as personal work-stations or cloud servers. Prior studies have primarily focused on core mechanisms for offloading. Yet, adaptive scheduling in such systems is important because offloading effectiveness can be influenced by varying network conditions, workload requirements, and load at the target device. In this paper, we present a study on the feasibility of applying machine learning techniques to address the adaptive scheduling problem in mobile offloading framework. The study considers 19 different machine learning algorithms and four workloads, with a dataset obtained through the deployment of an Android-based remote offloading framework prototype on actual mobile and cloud resources. From this set, a subset of machine learning algorithms, which have relatively high scheduling accuracy, is selected to implement an offline offloading scheduler. Finally, by taking computational cost and the scheduling performance into account, we use Instance-Based Learning to evaluate an online adaptive scheduler for mobile offloading. In our evaluation, we observe that an Instance Learning-based online offloading scheduler selects the best scheduling decision in 87.5% instances, in an experiment setup in which an image processing workload is offloaded while subject to varying network bandwidth conditions and the amount of data transfer. © 2013 IEEE.

The developpment of NLP tools for dialects faces the severe problem of lack of resources for such dialects. In the case of diglossia, as in arabic, a variant of arabic, Modern Standard Arabic, exists, for which many resources have been developped which can be used to build NLP tools. Taking advantage of the closeness of MSA and dialects, one way to solve the problem consist in performing a surfacic translation of the dialect into MSA in order to use the tools developped for MSA. We describe in this paper an achitecture for such a translation and we evaluate it on arabic verbs. © ATALA.

The ubiquitous computing also called pervasive computing regroups the characteristic of mobile computing and the technique of context-awareness that are flexible, adaptable, and capable of acting autonomously on behalf of users. However, the pervasive computing introduces a variety of software, hardware and users engineering challenges. The pervasive computing modeling is a new research area. We interest to purpose methodology for modeling pervasive systems. This paper provides an overview of proposed model of pervasive information system. Comparing biomarkers and proteomic fingerprints for classification studies

Early disease detection is extremely important in the treatment and prognosis of many diseases, especially cancer. Often, proteomic fingerprints and a pattern recognition algorithm are used to classify the pathological condition of a given individual. It has been argued that accurate classification of the existing data implies an underlying biological significance. Two fingerprint-based classifiers, decision tree and medoid classification algorithm, and a biomarker-based classifier were examined using a published dataset of mass spectral peaks from 81 healthy individuals and 78 individuals with benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH). For all three methods, classifiers were constructed using the original data and the data after permuting the labels of the samples (BPH and healthy). The fingerprint-based classifiers produced accurate results for the original data, though the peaks used in a given classifier depended upon which samples were placed in the training set. Accurate results were also obtained for the dataset with permuted labels. In contrast, only three unique peaks were identified as putative biomarkers, producing a small number of reasonably accurate biomarker-based classifiers. The dataset with permuted labels was poorly classified. Since fingerprint-based classifiers accurately classified the dataset with permuted labels, the argument for biological significance from a fingerprint-based classifier must be questioned.

Metamaterial absorbers realized in an X-band rectangular waveguide

In this paper, we demonstrate six types of metamaterial absorbers （MMAs） by measuring their absorptivities in an X-band （8 12 GHz） rectangular waveguide. Some of the MMAs have been demonstrated previously by using the free space measurement method, and the others are proposed firstly in this paper. The measured results show that all of the six MMAs exhibit high absorptivities above 98%, which have similar absorbing characteristics to those measured in the free space. The numerically obtained surface current densities for each MMA show that the absorbing mechanism is the same as that under the free space conditions. Such a demonstration method is superior to the conventional free space measurement method due to the small-scale test samples required, the simple measure device, and its low cost. Most importantly, the proposed method opens a way to enable MMAs to be used in microwave applications such as matched terminations.
