The Common information Model (CIM) has been heavily used in electric power grids for data exchange among a number of auxiliary systems such as communication systems, monitoring systems, and marketing systems. With a rapid deployment of digitalized devices in electric power networks, the volume of data continuously grows, which makes verification of CIM data a challenging issue. This paper presents a parallel K-means clustering algorithm for large-scale CIM data verification. The parallel K-means builds on the MapReduce computing model which has been widely taken up by the community in dealing with data-intensive applications. A genetic algorithm-based load-balancing scheme is designed to balance the workloads among the heterogeneous computing nodes for a further improvement in computation efficiency. The performance of the parallel K-means is initially evaluated in a small-scale in-house MapReduce cluster and subsequently evaluated in a commercial cloud computing platform. Finally, the parallel K-means is evaluated in large-scale simulated MapReduce environments. Both the experimental and simulation results show that the parallel K-means reduces the CIM data-verification time significantly compared with the sequential K-means clustering, while generating a high level of precision in data verification. Most processors employ hardware data prefetching techniques to hide memory access latencies. However, the prefetching requests from different threads on a multicore processor can cause severe interference with prefetching and/or demand requests of others. The data prefetching can lead to significant performance degradation due to shared resource contention on shared memory multicore systems. This article proposes a thread-aware data prefetching mechanism based on low-overhead runtime information to tune prefetching modes and aggressiveness, mitigating the resource contention in the memory system. Our solution has three new components: (1) a self-tuning prefetcher that uses runtime feedback to dynamically adjust data prefetching modes and arguments of each thread, (2) a filtering mechanism that informs the hardware about which prefetching request can cause shared data invalidation and should be discarded, and (3) a limiter thread acceleration mechanism to estimate and accelerate the critical thread which has the longest completion time in the parallel region of execution. On a set of multithreaded parallel benchmarks, our thread-aware data prefetchingmechanism improves the overall performance of 64-core system by 13% over a multimode prefetch baseline system with two-level cache organization and conventional modified, exclusive, shared, and invalid-based directory coherence *** compare our approach with the feedback directed prefetching technique and find that it provides 9% performance improvement on multicore systems, while saving the memory bandwidth consumption.

We focus on a dual-functional multi-input-multioutput (MIMO) radar-communication (RadCom) system, where a single transmitter communicates with downlink cellular users and detects radar targets simultaneously. Several design criteria are considered for minimizing the downlink multi-user interference. First, we consider both the omnidirectional and directional beampattern design problems, where the closed-form globally optimal solutions are obtained. Based on these waveforms, we further consider a weighted optimization to enable a flexible trade-off between radar and communications performance and introduce a low-complexity algorithm. The computational costs of the above three designs are shown to be similar to the conventional zero-forcing (ZF) precoding. Moreover, to address the more practical constant modulus waveform design problem, we propose a branch-and-bound algorithm that obtains a globally optimal solution and derive its worst-case complexity as a function of the maximum iteration number. KAGRA is a newly built gravitational wave observatory, a laser interferometer with a 3 km arm length, located in Kamioka, Gifu prefecture, Japan. In this article, we describe the KAGRA data management system, i.e., recording of data, transfer from the KAGRA experiment site to computing resources, as well as data distribution to tier sites, including international sites in Taiwan and Korea. The amount of KAGRA data exceeded 1.0 PiB and increased by about 1.5 TB per day during operation in 2020. Our system has succeeded in data management, and has achieved performance that can withstand observations after 2023, that is, a transfer rate of 20 MB s-1or more and file storage of sufficient capacity for petabyte class. We also discuss the sharing of data between the global gravitational-wave detector network with other experiments, namely LIGO and Virgo. The latency, which consists of calculation of calibrated strain data and transfer time within the global network, is very important from the view of multi-messenger astronomy using gravitational waves. Real-time calbrated data delivered from the KAGRA detector site and other detectors to our computing system arrive with about 4–15 seconds of latency. These latencies are sufficiently short compared to the time taken for gravitational wave event search computations. We also established a high-latency exchange of offline calibrated data that was aggregated with a better accuracy compared with real-time data.

During April 7–21 2020, KAGRA conducted its first scientific observation in conjunction with the GEO600 detector. The dominant noise sources during this run were found to be suspension control noise in the low-frequency range and acoustic noise in the mid-frequency range. In this study, we show that their contributions in the observational data can be reduced by a signal processing method called independent component analysis (ICA). The model of ICA is extended from that studied in the initial KAGRA data analysis to account for frequency dependence, while the linearity and stationarity of the coupling between the interferometer and the noise sources are still assumed. We identify optimal witness sensors in the application of ICA, leading to successful mitigation of these two dominant contributions. We also analyze the stability of the transfer functions for the entire two weeks of data to investigate the applicability of the proposed subtraction method in gravitational wave searches.

DOAS: Efficient data owner authorized search over encrypted cloud data

Data outsourcing service can shift the local data storage and maintenance to cloud service provider (CSP) to ease the burden from data owner, but it brings the data security threats as CSP is always considered to honest-but-curious. Therefore, searchable encryption (SE) technique which allows cloud clients (including data owner and data user) to securely search over ciphertext through keywords and selectively retrieve files of interest is of prime importance. However, in practice, data user’s access permission always dynamically varies with data owner’s preferences. Moreover, existing SE schemes which are based on attribute-based encryption (ABE) incur heavy computational burden through attribution revocation and policy updating. To allow data owner to flexibly grant access permissions, we design a secure cryptographic primitive called as efficient data owner authorized search over encrypted data scheme through utilizing identity-based encryption (IBE) technique. The formal security analysis proves that our scheme is secure against chosen-plaintext attack (CPA) and chosen-keyword attack (CKA) without random oracle. Besides, empirical experiments over real-world dataset show that our scheme is efficient and feasible with regard to data access control.

Forecasting has always been at the forefront of decision making and planning. The uncertainty that surrounds the future is both exciting and challenging, with individuals and organisations seeking to minimise risks and maximise utilities. The large number of forecasting applications calls for a diverse set of forecasting methods to tackle real-life challenges. This article provides a non-systematic review of the theory and the practice of forecasting. We provide an overview of a wide range of theoretical, state-of-the-art models, methods, principles, and approaches to prepare, produce, organise, and evaluate forecasts. We then demonstrate how such theoretical concepts are applied in a variety of real-life contexts. We do not claim that this review is an exhaustive list of methods and applications. However, we wish that our encyclopedic presentation will offer a point of reference for the rich work that has been undertaken over the last decades, with some key insights for the future of forecasting theory and practice. Given its encyclopedic nature, the intended mode of reading is non-linear. We offer cross-references to allow the readers to navigate through the various topics. We complement the theoretical concepts and applications covered by large lists of free or open-source software implementations and publicly-available databases. © 2020, CC BY.
