A testbed for investigation of heterogeneous and reconfigurable data network fabrics supporting a parallel DSP computational accelerator is described. The DSP processors are large-grained processors (Analog Devices SHARC DSPs), with a variety of parallel DSP array architectures possible. The network fabric is intended to be reconfigurable (within a rich but necessarily limited set of structures) to adapt to the needs of a sequence of image processing algorithms being executed (e.g., in a medical image processing environment). The testbed will exploit conventional FPGA components to provide reconfigurable network structures and will exploit commercial high-speed interconnect components emerging for applications such as board-to-board applications. As a computational accelerator, the testbed is intended to be controlled by a host processor, with the host processor cooperating in the definition of the changes in the structure of the network structure as execution of a sequence of image processing algorithms proceeds.

Fault detection, isolation and recovery (FDIR) functions are essential components of complex engineering systems. The design, validation, implementation, deployment and maintenance of FDIR systems are extremely information intensive tests requiring in-depth knowledge of the engineering system. The paper gives an overview of a model-integrated toolset supporting FDIR from design, into post deployment. The toolset is used for development of large, complex spacecraft systems during the engineering design phase.

An object-oriented modular approach to the engineering of complex robotic systems emphasizes reliability, reusability, ease of development, and user and network interfaces. This modular approach integrates many architectural principles and computational techniques which support adaptive and learning capability at the local, modular level. The TETROBOT is a modular and reconfigurable robotic system which was developed to demonstrate the reliable performance in a wide variety of task domains through reconfiguration of the same fundamental hardware and software components. Such a modular approach emphasizes the synthesis and integration of engineering modules and takes advantage of object-oriented engineering principles to design for a family of tasks. This paper provides an overview of the TETROBOT modular system and describes three modular systems in other applications domains.

We present our approach to Multiple Perspective Interactive (MPI) video. In MPI video, a viewer could view an event from multiple perspectives, even based on the contents of the events. Using strategically located multiple cameras a set of image sequences is obtained and used to build a 3-dimensional model of the important events in a scene. Considering the request of a user, the system decides the best camera at every time instant and edits image sequences from these camera, much like an editor in standard live sport events, to provide a user the video sequence of the episode from the user's desired perspective. Our system features automatic camera selection and interaction using three-dimensional cursors. We present results of a prototype which is a part of our early efforts to establish a framework of MPI video. Our prototype is a football video retrieval system. We present our results to concretely show the concept of the interactive video.

He obtained his B.A. Sc. and M.A.Sc. degrees in electrical engineering (summa cum laude) from the University of Ottawa Ottawa Ontario Canada in 1987 and 1989 respectively. Mr So was a research engineer in the University of Ottawa from January 1989 to October 1991 his research interests included CAD techniques of microwave circuits and numerical methods for electromagnetic wave modelling. He specialized in the development of electromagnetic engineering CAD software and successfully implemented a number of electromagnetic wave simulators based on the two-dimensional and three-dimensional transmission-line matrix methods. From August 1990 to February 1991 he accompanied Professor W. J. R. Hoefer to Rome Italy and Sophia Antiopolas France. During that time he implemented a parallel version of the 3D-TLM simulator for the CM-2 Connection Machine using C-Star and X Windows Library. He is a research engineer and a Ph.D. student at the University of Victoria Victoria British Columbia Canada. He ported the 2D- and 3D-TLM simulators to DECmpp 1200 massively parallel computer using MPL C and C++. He also combined OSA90/hope a commercially available microwave CAD program with a 2D-TLM simulation module for geometry optimization using the Datapipe technique of OSA90/hope. Recently he has developed a distributed client-server computing technique for the TLM method this technique could accelerate the TLM simulation by more than an order of magnitude. This paper describes the implementation of transmission-line matrix (TLM) method algorithms on a massively parallel computer (DECmpp 12000), the technique of distributed computing in the UNIX environment, and the combination of TLM analysis with Prony's method as well as with autoregressive moving average (ARMA) digital signal processing for electromagnetic field modelling. By combining these advanced computation techniques, typical electromagnetic field modelling of microwave structures by TLM analysis can be accelerated by a few orders of magnitude.

Using their previous observation that H/sup /spl infin// filtering coincides with Kalman filtering in Krein space the authors develop square-root arrays and Chandrasekhar recursions for H/sup /spl infin// filtering problems. The H/sup /spl infin// square-root algorithms involve propagating the indefinite square-root of the quantities of interest and have the property that the appropriate inertia of these quantities is preserved. For systems that are constant, or whose time-variation is structured in a certain way, the Chandrasekhar recursions allow a reduction in the computational effort per iteration from O(n/sup 3/) to O(n/sup 2/), where n is the number of states. The H/sup /spl infin// square-root and Chandrasekhar recursions both have the interesting feature that one does not need to explicitly check for the positivity conditions required of the H/sup /spl infin// filters. These conditions are built into the algorithms themselves so that an H/sup /spl infin// estimator of the desired level exists if, and only if, the algorithms can be executed.< >

A new family of uniquely decodable binary codes is presented for the T-user real adder channel. The codes consist of T individual codebooks, each containing only two codewords, one of which is the all-zero sequence. These codes achieve a sum rate that is equal, asymptotically in T, to the sum capacity. An iterative decoding algorithm is also presented. Applications are discussed to codes for T active users out of M potential users, and to superimposed codes.

Connected Autonomous Vehicle (CAV) Driving, as a data-driven intelligent driving technology within the Internet of Vehicles (IoV), presents significant challenges to the efficiency and security of real-time data management. The combination of Web3.0 and edge content caching holds promise in providing low-latency data access for CAVs’ real-time applications. Web3.0 enables the reliable pre-migration of frequently requested content from content providers to edge nodes. However, identifying optimal edge node peers for joint content caching and replacement remains challenging due to the dynamic nature of traffic flow in IoV. Addressing these challenges, this article introduces GAMA-Cache, an innovative edge content caching methodology leveraging Graph Attention Networks (GAT) and Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning (MARL). GAMA-Cache conceptualizes the cooperative edge content caching issue as a constrained Markov decision process. It employs a MARL technique predicated on cooperation effectiveness to discern optimal caching decisions, with GAT augmenting information extracted from adjacent nodes. A distinct collaborator selection mechanism is also developed to streamline communication between agents, filtering out those with minimal correlations in the vector input to the policy network. Experimental results demonstrate that, in terms of service latency and delivery failure, the GAMA-Cache outperforms other state-of-the-art MARL solutions for edge content caching in IoV.

The beginning of the twenty-first century is characterized by global markets, and the mobility of people is becoming an important fact of life. Consequently, the mobile user is demanding appropriate technical solutions to make use of customized information and communication services. In this context the notion of next-generation networks (NGNs), which are driven by the convergence of the entertainment sector, the mobile Internet, and fixed/mobile telecommunications, is emerging. Such NGNs are aggregating a variety of different access networks and supporting the seamless connection of an open set of end-user devices, and due to the adoption of an all-IP network paradigm they enable a much better integration of voice and data services. Coincidently the buzzword ‘fixed mobile convergence’ (FMC) describes the current trend towards providing common services across fixed and mobile networks resulting in the medium term in the full integration of fixed and mobile telecommunication networks. The adoption of appropriate middleware technologies and the provision of - called service delivery platforms driven by the ongoing innovation in the field of information technologies provides today the technical foundation for supporting terminal, personal and service mobility and thus the implementation of real seamless information and communication services. Furthermore, users are nowadays looking, in light of an omnipresent service environment, for a much higher degree of customization and context awareness in the services they use. The papers in this volume look at these enabling mobility-aware technologies and their use for implementing mobility-aware and context-aware applications.
