Material identification is a technology that can help to identify the type of target *** approaches depend on expensive instruments,complicated pre-treatments and professional *** is difficult to find a substantial yet effective material identification method to meet the daily use *** this paper,we introduce a Wi-Fi-signal based material identification approach by measuring the amplitude ratio and phase difference as the key features in the material classifier,which can significantly reduce the cost and guarantee a high level *** practical measurement of WiFi based material identification,these two features are commonly interrupted by the software/hardware noise of the channel state information(CSI).To eliminate the inherent noise of CSI,we design a denoising method based on the antenna array of the commercial off-the-shelf(COTS)Wi-Fi *** that,the amplitude ratios and phase differences can be more stably utilized to classify the *** implement our system and evaluate its ability to identify materials in indoor *** result shows that our system can identify 10 commonly seen liquids with an average accuracy of 98.8%.It can also identify similar liquids with an overall accuracy higher than 95%,such as various concentrations of salt water.

Instance segmentation is a long-standing task for supporting robotic bin picking. However, objects of diverse classes can be closely packed with occlusions in cluttered and chaotic scenes, hence, even recent methods could have difficulty in locating clear and precise boundaries to distinguish nearby objects. In this work, we aim to improve the boundary quality of the instance masks for robust and precise instance segmentation in these challenging scenarios. Technical-wise, we first formulate an IoU-based Boundary-aware Mask head (IBM head) for predicting the instance-level mask, boundary, and their corresponding IoU scores. With this core module, we then follow the coarse-to-fine strategy and design our pipeline with two stages: an 1IoUNet to learn localization-based objectness cue and a hierarchical mask refiner to produce sharper and cleaner boundaries. We deploy the IBM head throughout the framework. Extensive experimental results on three grasping benchmarks manifest that our method attains the best instance segmentation performance, compared with the state-of-the-art approaches. Practically, we conduct real-world picking tests to show that with the objectness and boundary IoU scores as guidance, we are able to filter invalid (occluded) instances and select high-fidelity (exposed) instances for grasping.

Vulnerability Assessment and Optimization of Urban Rail systems Against Extreme Perturbations: A Case Study on the Zhengzhou Metro Flooding

With the rapid development of urban rail networks in recent years, these complex transportation systems are facing significant challenges in both preparing for and recovering from the growing impact of extreme perturbations caused by various factors such as extreme weather, equipment faults, and security threats. Assessing and improving the vulnerability of urban rail systems to perturbations is crucial for ensuring efficient and safe mobility services for passengers. While most existing studies have focused on the vulnerability assessment of physical transportation networks from the perspective of infrastructures, our study aims to investigate the vulnerability of urban rail systems to extreme perturbations from the perspective of rail managers. Specifically, for the assessment of system vulnerability, we first construct a graph model with the definition of nodes, edges, and edge weights using a hybrid DEMATEL-ISM-ANP method to capture the causal relationships among different factors leading to perturbations, such as technical system factors, organizational factors, and human factors. Then, for the optimization of system vulnerability, we develop a mixed integer programming (MIP) formulation based on the constructed graph model to identify the most vulnerable factors against perturbations. We implement our approach in a case study of the Zhengzhou metro flooding disaster, which occurred on Zhengzhou metro line 5 on July 20, 2021, resulting in the death of 14 passengers. The results indicate that our approach can correctly identify the factors that significantly influence system vulnerability in the Zhengzhou metro flooding. Our findings support that the Zhengzhou metro flooding disaster was primarily caused by human factors, such as the failure of emergency commands from dispatchers. We also conduct experiments to draw valuable insights for early warnings of urban rail systems against extreme perturbations. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) emerges as a promising technology for 6G, particularly in the millimeter-wave (mmWave) band. However, the widely utilized hybrid architecture in mmWave systems compromises multiplexing gain due to the constraints of limited radio-frequency (RF) chains. Moreover, additional sensing functionalities exacerbate the impairment of spectrum efficiency (SE). In this paper, we present an optimized beam pattern modulation-embedded ISAC (BPM-ISAC) transceiver design, which spares one RF chain for sensing and uses the remaining ones for communication. To compensate for the reduced SE, index modulation across communication beams is applied. We formulate an optimization problem aimed at minimizing the mean squared error (MSE) of the sensing beampattern, subject to a symbol MSE constraint. This problem is then solved by sequentially optimizing the analog and digital parts. Both the multi-aperture structure (MAS) and the multi-beam structure (MBS) are considered in the analog part. We conduct theoretical analysis on the asymptotic pairwise error probability (APEP) and the Cramér-Rao bound (CRB) of direction of arrival (DoA) estimation. As the adoption for electric vehicles (EV) increases, the need for proper charging infrastructure also increases. As such, it is necessary to ensure proper charging infrastructure to meet the charging demand. Hence, studies concerning the planning of EV charging stations which include the sizing of distributed energy resources (DERs) in the station to reduce the peak demand on the grid. In this paper, EV charging stations were designed keeping in mind factors such as the EV charging load profile (on demand charging versus deferred charging), uncertainties in the load profile as well as the tariff rates. A sensitivity analysis was also carried out in order to examine the impact of several techno-economic parameters on the overall cost of the system.

The emerging neurorehabilitation technology, Brain-computer Interface (BCI), provides a novel prospect for stroke recovery. However, decoding brain activity during the movement present substantial challenges, and feature extraction is crutial to build a better decoder. In this study the CEBRA method were employed to extract features first based on electroencephalogram(EEG) data during Motor Execution(ME) and Motor lmagery (Ml) tasks for 20 participants (including 10 stroke patients). The results revealed that, in MI tasks, CEBRA-RF (Random Forests) achieved an average classification accuracy of 91.33%, with an average F1-score of 91.19%, and CEBRA-SVM (Support Vector Machine) achieved an average classification accuracy of 91.32%, with an average F1-score of 90.83%. Bipolar medium-voltage dc (MVDC) distribution systems are of great interests nowadays due to its high availability and reliability. A bipolar MVDC grid can be established by the installation of power-balancers or directly by converters with inherent bipolar operation capability to avoid the extra cost and volume. Therefore, this paper proposes a modular multilevel dc-dc converter (MMDC) with inherent bipolar operation capability for the interconnection of bipolar MVDC grids and LVDC girds. Considering that the MMDC is normally only capable of operating with monopole MVDC distribution systems due to the symmetric structure and operation scheme, a center-Tapped high-frequency interface transformer is employed on the MV side of the MMDC. Based on the concept of the flux dc-bias cancellation, a dedicated operation method is proposed, whereby the power flows of the two MVDC poles can be regulated independently with a simple control scheme, and no penalty of increased current rating is imposed on the semiconductor devices or the interface transformer compared to the conventional MMDC with monopole operation. Additionally, the MMDC can realize single-pole operation in case one pole is faulty and deliver at least 50% of the rated power capacity, which significantly enhance the reliability and availability of the power delivery. The validity of the proposed bipolar operation scheme of the MMDC has been verified by both simulations and experiments with a down-scale prototype. © 2017 CPSS.

This paper presents a Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP) based regression model for characterizing materials at micrwave frequency range. A mathematical model and experimental setup of the Open-Ended Coaxial Probe (OECP) sensor interacting with the material under test (MUT) generate a cross-dataset to validate the MLP regression model, utilizing the frequency-dependent complex dielectric constant for material characterization. This paper utilizes the frequency-dependent response of the OECP sensor (scattering parameters) as input features for the MLP model, while the complex dielectric constant of the MUT serves as the output feature. The optimized MLP model has an $R^{2}$ of 99.991% and MSE of $6.65 \times 10^{-5}$ , with predictions closely aligning with literature values for standard loads such as distilled water, acetone, and ethanol, obtained using a commercially available dielectric assessment software kit. This cost-effective model enables precise dielectric property estimation, with future work extending to unknown materials, mixtures, and electrolyte solutions.

Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) has revolutionized numerous fields, yet its integration with graph data, a cornerstone in our interconnected world, remains nascent. This paper presents a pioneering survey on the emerging domain of graph prompts in AGI, addressing key challenges and opportunities in harnessing graph data for AGI applications. Despite substantial advancements in AGI across natural language processing and computer vision, the application to graph data is relatively underexplored. This survey critically evaluates the current landscape of AGI in handling graph data, highlighting the distinct challenges in cross-modality, cross-domain, and cross-task applications specific to graphs. Our work is the first to propose a unified framework for understanding graph prompt learning, offering clarity on prompt tokens, token structures, and insertion patterns in the graph domain. We delve into the intrinsic properties of graph prompts, exploring their flexibility, expressiveness, and interplay with existing graph models. A comprehensive taxonomy categorizes over 100 works in this field, aligning them with pre-training tasks across node-level, edge-level, and graph-level objectives. Additionally, we present, ProG, a Python library, and an accompanying website, to support and advance research in graph prompting. The survey culminates in a discussion of current challenges and future directions, offering a roadmap for research in graph prompting within AGI. Through this comprehensive analysis, we aim to catalyze further exploration and practical applications of AGI in graph data, underlining its potential to reshape AGI fields and beyond. Electrical Impedance Tomography (EIT) is a clinical imaging technique that gained a lot of attention because it is a non-invasive and radiation-free method. To obtain an inner image of the domain under study, a specific number of electrodes is attached to the surface of the object, then through a pair of electrodes, a low alternative current is injected. Potentials produced by this injection are measured with the remaining electrodes. Based on these boundary voltages measurements, the inner conductivity can be inferred, thus the image is reconstructed. The focus of this paper is to overcome the major weakness of the EIT image reconstruction technique, which is the low spatial resolution of the reconstructed images caused by the non-linearity of EIT inverse problem. This paper considers this problem, an optimization problem that is solved using the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) meta-heuristic. A variant of the standard PSO is proposed and validated, first on a circular mesh composed of 686 triangles then on a lung mesh composed of 2707 triangles.
