Mg-6Zn-2X(Fe/Cu/Ni)alloys were prepared through semi-continuous casting,with the aim of identifying a degradable magnesium(Mg)alloy suitable for use in fracturing balls.A comparative analysis was conducted to assess the impacts of adding Cu and Ni,which result in finer grains and the formation of galvanic corrosion *** electronic microscopy examination revealed that precipitated phases concentrated at grain boundaries,forming a semi-continuous network structure that facilitated corrosion penetration in Mg-6Zn-2Cu and Mg-6Zn-2Ni *** corrosion was observed in Mg-6Zn-2Fe,while galvanic corrosion was identified as the primary mechanism in Mg-6Zn-2Cu and Mg-6Zn-2Ni *** the tests,the Mg-6Zn-2Ni alloy exhibited the highest corrosion rate(approximately 932.9 mm/a)due to its significant potential *** testing showed that Mg-6Zn-2Ni alloy possessed suitable ultimate compressive strength,making it a potential candidate material for degradable fracturing balls,effectively addressing the challenges of balancing strength and degradation rate in fracturing applications.

This paper investigates the relationship between the flowability and electrical properties of metal powders in powder bed fusion – electron/laser beam melting (PBF-E/LBM) technology, with a focus on the impact of naturally formed oxide films on powder surfaces. Additive manufacturing (AM) technology is crucial in industries like aerospace, automotive, and medical, where forming a high-density, uniform powder bed is essential for product quality. Flowability is influenced by factors such as powder shape, particle size distribution, and surface characteristics, including the oxide film. The study compares powders produced by gas atomization (GA), plasma atomization (PA), and the plasma rotating electrode process (PREP), specifically examining Inconel 718 alloy powder and SUS304 steel powder. It analyzes their electrical properties and flowability to understand the impact on powder recoating performance. The research utilizes particle image velocimetry (PIV) to visualize powder flow during recoating and discusses the electrical properties and thermal stability of the surface oxide film, especially under mechanical strain. The goal is to enhance understanding of powder flowability in the PBF-AM process and contribute to better manufacturing techniques for high-quality metal components. ©2024 Japan Society of Powder and Powder Metallurgy.

In autonomous driving, utilizing deep learning models to help make decisions has become a popular theme, particularly in the realm of computer vision. These models are heavily geared to make decisions based on the environment in which they are trained. Currently, there are very few datasets that exist for off-road autonomy. In order for autonomous vehicles to traverse off-road or unstructured settings, the vehicles must have an understanding of these environments. This paper seeks to lay the groundwork for a new, off-road, multi-modality dataset, with initial data being collected at Mississippi State University’s center for advanced Vehicular Systems (MSU CAVS). This dataset will include co-aligned and co-registered LiDAR, thermal, and visual sensor data. Additionally, this dataset will include semantic segmented visual data as well as object detection and classification labels for all three modalities. However, to perform semantic segmentation on each image individually would be strenuous and time-consuming due to the large quantity of images. Thus, this paper will explore the utility of transfer learning for auto-labeling. Specifically, this paper considers how transfer learning for a unique and under-represented (data-wise) domain performs in reducing the burden associated with hand-annotation datasets for deep learning applications. © 2024 SPIE.

Data privacy concerns have become a significant challenge in modern communication networks, where network clients generate diverse types of potentially sensitive information. Federated learning (FL) emerges as a privacy-preserving solution that allows distributed model training without centralizing sensitive data, thus enabling collaborative learning across decentralized networks. To collaboratively learn a global model in FL, participating users and a central entity periodically exchange information. Real-world network conditions, particularly varying channel quality, present obstacles to effective information exchange in federated learning implementations. In this paper, we introduce a federated learning framework that takes into account the channel quality variations among users and enhances resource utilization with reduced compromise to model predictive performance. Our proposed framework capitalizes on the observation that neural network layers exhibit diverse levels of sensitivity to noise. Our approach leverages this observation by selectively transmitting per-layer model updates based on channel conditions. This strategy not only protects critical model components from adverse channel effects but also conserves transmission resources. We demonstrate that our method achieves comparable accuracy to traditional approaches while significantly reducing communication overhead. To showcase its potential, we validate our method using two datasets. Our simulation results demonstrate promising performance in terms of both resource utilization and accuracy. © 2024 IEEE.

State-of-the-art Metal Induced Lateral Crystallization (MILC) techniques have been demonstrated for 3D flash memory with ultra-high (over 300) layers. For the first time, 14-μm-long macaroni silicon (Si) channels in vertical memory hole are fully single-crystallized. Furthermore, by using newly developed nickel (Ni) gettering technique, the 112 word-line-layer 3D flash memory exhibits cell array performances such as read noise reduction of 40% or more, and 10-times channel conductance without any degradations of cell reliability. © 2023 JSAP.

With the number of decommissioned electric vehicles increasing annually,a large amount of discarded power battery cathode material is in urgent need of ***,common leaching methods for recovering metal salts are economically inefficient and ***,the recycled material obtained by lithium remediation alone has limited performance in cycling ***,a short method of solid-phase reduction is developed to recover spent LiFePO4 by simultaneously introducing Mg2+ions for hetero-atom *** of particle agglomeration,carbon layer breakage,lithium loss,and Fe3+defects in spent LiFePO4 are also *** show that Mg2+addition during regeneration can remarkably enhance the crystal structure stability and improve the Li+diffusion *** regenerated LiFePO4 exhibits significantly improved electrochemical performance with a specific discharge capacity of 143.2 mAh·g^(−1)at 0.2 C,and its capacity retention is extremely increased from 37.9%to 98.5%over 200 cycles at 1 ***,its discharge capacity can reach 95.5 mAh·g^(−1)at 10 C,which is higher than that of spent LiFePO4(55.9 mAh·g^(−1)).All these results show that the proposed regeneration strategy of simultaneous carbon coating and Mg2+doping is suitable for the efficient treatment of spent LiFePO4.

Effective risk management and compliance adherence are paramount for the success of financial institutions and organizations. However, they often face significant challenges due to fraudulent activities, with ATM fraud, among others, emerging as a prevalent issue in today’s banking landscape. We proposed a novel profiling-based one-class classification (OCC) method to solve this problem. Then training phase of our approach employs the K-Means clustering algorithm to cluster non-fraudulent transactions exhibiting similar characteristics and patterns. A rule is generated from each cluster, thereby in a rule set comprising K rules, each consisting of conditions based on the lower and upper bounds on all features. This rule set is employed to identify fraudulent transactions presented in the test phase because ours is an OCC method. One distinctive feature of our approach is its interpretability and explainability, which is crucial for understanding the model's predictions. Overall, our proposed approach demonstrates the best performance vis-à-vis that of various state-of-the-art OCC methods in terms of classification rate. Additionally, we provide sensitivity analysis by varying the number of conditions violated across the K rules.

Tetracycline hydrochloride (TCN), widely recognized for its broad-spectrum efficacy and cost-effectiveness as an antibiotic, has raised significant environmental and health concerns due to its contamination in water bodies. This study introduces an innovative approach to address this issue by employing a titanium dioxide/graphitic carbon nitride (TiO2/g-C3N5) nanocomposite through photocatalysis. The synthesis of this composite involved a hydrothermal method, and a comprehensive characterization was conducted using XRD, FT-IR, and SEM techniques. The formed heterojunction between TiO2 and g-C3N5 exhibited remarkable photocatalytic degradation capabilities, achieving a removal rate of over 85% within a short period of 135min. This signifies the composite's efficiency in breaking down TCN in aqueous environments. Beyond its high effectiveness, the TiO2/g-C3N5 nanocomposite presents itself as an environmentally friendly and sustainable solution for addressing the critical issues associated with antibiotic contamination in water. This study underscores the potential of photocatalysis using TiO2/g-C3N5 as a promising technology for mitigating the adverse effects of TCN on both ecosystems and human health. © 2024 Walter de Gruyter GmbH, Berlin/Boston.

The optimization of rotor blade aerodynamic and structural design is pivotal for enhancing overall rotorcraft performance in terms of, e.g., reduced power requirements and energy consumption, and increased range and cargo capacity. Use of composite blades are increasing attractive owing to improved fatigue characteristic, reparability, etc., however, not all proposed composite structure designs are practical to manufacture. This research effort explores the intricate relationship between composite blade design and manufacturability, the potential utility of optimization software (e.g., iVABS) to improve the overall manufacturability of a given structural design. Integrated VABS (iVABS) is a software tool developed to aid in the design optimization of composite slender structures. Design parameters can be defined in iVABS to control various aspects of the internal structure such as spar web spacing, web curvature, number of plies, fiber orientation, and materials, many of which have a direct effect on the overall manufacturability of the blade. The team delves into the critical aspects of manufacturability that directly influence the manufacturing process. The overarching goal is to establish rules that will guide a manufacturability assessment that can be integrated into the initial design phase, guiding iVABS towards creating rotor blade designs that not only meet stress, strain and aerodynamic requirements, but are also inherently more manufacturable. The integration of manufacturability considerations into the optimization process, as demonstrated by these efforts, represents a proactive approach to ensuring that optimal structural designs align with the capabilities and constraints of the given manufacturability processes, thereby streamlining the manufacturing process.
