Polyvinylidene Difluoride/Sb2S3 Composite Film as a Potential Candidate for Piezoelectric Energy Generation

In this work, antimony sulphide (Sb2S3) in powder form was prepared using a simple chemical bath deposition technique by taking potassium antimonyl tartrate hemihydrate (K(SbO)C4H4O6), 0.5H2O) and sodium thiosulphate pentahydrate (Na2S2O3, 5H2O) as the source of Sb and S, respectively. The polymer, polyvinylidene difluoride (PVDF) was then impregnated by this chemically prepared Sb2S3 with varying wt% and PVDF/Sb2S3 composites were prepared in the form of films using solution casting method. Detailed structural/compositional characterization was carried out through x-ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy techniques with the synthesized materials. The PVDF/Sb2S3 composite films were also subjected to thorough electrical characterization that revealed excellent piezoelectric attributes. The voltage, current density and power output obtained from this composite film were highly impressive (~ 90 V, ~ 19 µA/cm2 and ~ 19,400 W/m3 across 1 MΩ load, respectively) making it worthy to use as a clean energy generator. The device was also utilized to charge a 2.2 µF-63 V capacitor up to ~ 40 V with simple finger patting. The results open up the avenue for utilizing this PVDF/Sb2S3 composite film in real life application as a clean energy generator. © The Institution of Engineers (India) 2023.

Electrochemically Deposited Cu(II)/Cu(I) Oxide Heterostructure as Highly Sensitive Platform for Electrochemical Detection of Glucose and Methanol

Detection of glucose level and in human body is very essential in many ways. Besides glucose, methanol also plays crucial role in human physiology as it can influence human nervous system. So, detection of any imbalance in methanol level is also crucial. For this purpose, in this work, CuO/Cu2O bulk heterostructures were electrochemically deposited in the form of thin films on ITO-coated glass substrates using cyclic voltammetry and amperometrically. The deposited films were characterized using X-ray diffraction technique (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM) and UV–Vis spectroscopy. The electrochemical attributes of the deposited films towards glucose and methanol sensing were studied through cyclic voltammetry (CV), amperometric i-t and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). From the linear fit plot, the sensitivity was found to be 237.7 µA µM−1 cm−2 with LoD (limit of detection) of 19.8 µM and up to 1.2 mM concentration of glucose. Further, for methanol, both LoD and sensitivity values were found to be 0.007 µM and 0.016 µA/µ***2, respectively. The results are quite promising for the deposited material for its possible real-life applications as sensing platform for the electrochemical D-glucose and methanol detections. © The Institution of Engineers (India) 2024.

In the present day, the number of people travelling in flight is rapidly increasing. All the passengers travelling through these airlines carry luggage. Which is increasing luggage. At the airport, all this luggage goes through multiple processes like checking, tagging, shorting, etc. In this process, due to various reasons, they got lost. Paper-based barcodes are used for ragging the luggage. The barcode method of luggage sorting is time-consuming, and prone to technical errors as the tags can store only limited data and the date needs to be manually updated. Damaged tags result in loss of cargo during the loading process. This article focuses on analysing the real-life problem of luggage sorting and tracking at a busy airport by using two advanced technologies RFID and IoT. Among multiple literature on RFID Based Luggage Sorting there is a gap in implementing IoT-based tracking of luggage, along with RFID-based identification. Which brings novelty to this project. The paper aims to provide a simplified technique for automatic luggage sorting using RFID and tracking over IoT, along with design, implementation and testing data. © 2024 IEEE.

Single-sized phase-change metasurfaces for dynamic information multiplexing and encryption

Optical metasurfaces empower us to manipulate the electromagnetic space and control light propagation at the nanoscale, offering a powerful tool to achieve modulation of light for information processing and storage. In this paper, we propose a phase-change metasurface to realize dynamic multiplexing and encryption of near-field information. Based on the orientation degeneracy and polarization control governed by Malus's law, we elaborately design the orientation distribution of Sb2S3 meta-atoms with the same dimension to simultaneously satisfy the amplitude modulation requirements of three independent channels. Using the corresponding polarization control as decoding keys, three different nanoprinting images can be displayed, and these multiplexed images can be switched on and off by leveraging the reversible tunability of the Sb2S3 meta-atoms between the amorphous and crystalline states. With the unparalleled advantages of ultracompactness, simple design strategy, high information density and security, the proposed metasurfaces afford promising prospects for high-end applications in ultracompact and intelligent dynamic display, high-dense optical data storage, and optical information encryption.

In the absence of conventional energy sources renewable energy is the only suitable option left. Multiple renewable energy sources like Hydroelectric Energy, Tidal Energy, Geothermal Energy, and Solar Electrical Energy are becoming popular every day. There are multiple reasons such as its availability in small to large sizes, predictability, easy installation, smooth maintenance process, drop in system installation cost, and mostly fast return on investment. With the increase in demand for solar photovoltaic panels, the demand for producing higher power output from less area is increasing rapidly. Hence with every breakthrough, the efficiency of the Photovoltaic Panel is increasing rapidly. With continuous development, the PV modules are developed in such a way that light can be absorbed from the front and rear on both sides. In the Bi-facial module, the direct sunlight gets absorbed from the front, and the albedo is also absorbed from the back to increase the power generation further. With the implementation of half-cut technology, the shading losses are minimized further. Rapid development is also being done on MPPT and Inverter to improve efficiency. Presently a generalized mathematical model for bifacial half-cut module is not published in any literature. In this paper, the research gap is covered by designing a Bifacial Half-cut PV Module along with an MPPT and also a bidirectional DC-DC Converter for charging and discharging of Battery Bank. Finally, we have integrated the system and also have simulated the designed system to check its stability. Such a model helps in analyzing and validating performance characteristics of commercially available bifacial modules and half-cut modules. © 2025 IEEE.

A rational preparation strategy of phase tuned MoO_(3) nanostructures for high-performance all-solid asymmetric supercapacitor

In this work,phase and morphology-tuned MoO_(3) nanostructures are synthesized through a novel modified co-precipitation method,and their electrochemical properties are *** the first time,such a simple surfactant-assisted synthesis process aided by minor temperature variations is reported which results in phase transition of the nanoparticles from h-MoO_(3) nano-rods to a-MoO_(3) *** nanostructures thus developed are highly porous and crystalline with significantly large specific surface area as compared to previous *** theoretical bandgap energy of the optimized sample calculated using Perdew-Zunger local density approximation(LDA) is in good agreement with the experimental *** overall structural,morphological,and surface-behavioural analysis predicts the electrochemical superiority in 2D a-MoO_(3).The cyclic voltammetry and galvano-potentiometry measurements of 2D a-MoO_(3) in the potential window of-0.6 V to +0.2 V present the highest pseudosupercapacitive response with a maximum specific capacitance of 829 F g^(-1)at 2 A g^(-1)as compared to h-MoO_(3) (452 F g^(-1)) and h@a-MoO_(3) (783 F g^(-1)).Thus,the MoO_(3) 2D nanostructures synthesized through our novel synthesis technique display excellent specific capacitance as compared to previous reported ***,a-MoO_(3) exhibits a galvanostatic charging-discharging cyclic stability of about 91%after 2000 cycles,indicating that it can serve as an excellent electrode material for supercapacitors.A solid-state asymmetric supercapacitor device is successfully constructed using a-MoO_(3) which can light up 4 red LEDs for 10 *** specific energy density of the device reaches a maximum value of 36.3 W h kg^(-1)at the power density of 50 W kg^(-1).

In recent years, designing alloys with diverse elements or high entropy alloys (HEAs) has received significant research interest for biomedical applications, particularly bone repair techniques that use materials with excellent strength and biocompatibility. This review paper transitions from the core HEA concept to factors influencing cell-material interactions. The application area for Bio-HEA was not only fixed to orthopaedic implants;prospects in photothermal, bioimaging, biosensors, and therapeutics have also been discussed. Another focus of this review is identifying suitable elements that can elucidate reduced toxicity with enhanced antimicrobial activity. Critical discussions on lowering elastic modulus techniques for bio-HEAs have been provided that mitigate stress-shielding effect-related implant rejection. Further, corrosion and wear resistance and their impact on cellular functions have been discussed. Synthesis of HEA as a bulk material and the nuances of HEA as a nanoparticle have been discussed along with high entropy-based other systems for biomedical applications. The review further delves into HEA composite fabrication and its applicability as a coating material. Concepts like strength-ductility trade-off, the impact of elemental alloy composition on corrosion and other physical properties, strengthening mechanism, and single-phase stability concepts were discussed in connection to the Bio-HEA. The paper concludes by identifying the present challenges limiting the clinical translation of HEAs and exploring future in-depth research directions involving computational modelling and advanced manufacturing to optimize HEAs for biomedical use further. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

Electrical Impedance Tomography (EIT) is a clinical imaging technique that gained a lot of attention because it is a non-invasive and radiation-free method. To obtain an inner image of the domain under study, a specific number of electrodes is attached to the surface of the object, then through a pair of electrodes, a low alternative current is injected. Potentials produced by this injection are measured with the remaining electrodes. Based on these boundary voltages measurements, the inner conductivity can be inferred, thus the image is reconstructed. The focus of this paper is to overcome the major weakness of the EIT image reconstruction technique, which is the low spatial resolution of the reconstructed images caused by the non-linearity of EIT inverse problem. This paper considers this problem, an optimization problem that is solved using the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) meta-heuristic. A variant of the standard PSO is proposed and validated, first on a circular mesh composed of 686 triangles then on a lung mesh composed of 2707 triangles. © 2023 IEEE.
