Diffusion models have been extensively utilized in AI-generated content (AIGC) in recent years, thanks to the superior generation capabilities. Combining with semantic communications, diffusion models are used for tasks such as denoising, data reconstruction, and content generation. However, existing diffusion-based generative models do not consider the stringent bandwidth limitation, which limits its application in wireless communication. This paper introduces a diffusion-driven semantic communication framework with advanced VAE-based compression for bandwidth-constrained generative model. Our designed architecture utilizes the diffusion model, where the signal transmission process through the wireless channel acts as the forward process in diffusion. To reduce bandwidth requirements, we incorporate a downsampling module and a paired upsampling module based on a variational auto-encoder with reparameterization at the receiver to ensure that the recovered features conform to the Gaussian distribution. Furthermore, we derive the loss function for our proposed system and evaluate its performance through comprehensive experiments. Our experimental results demonstrate significant improvements in pixel-level metrics such as peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR) and semantic metrics like learned perceptual image patch similarity (LPIPS). These enhancements are more profound regarding the compression rates and SNR compared to deep joint source-channel coding (DJSCC). Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

INNSE: Invertible neural network-based DNA image storage with self-correction encoding

DNA storage has become an alternative to silicon-based storage of media. However, when used to store multimodal data such as images, it fails to take full advantage of the characteristics of high correlation and variability present in such data, and currently remains inferior in terms of encoding density and time complexity. It also has the shortcoming of weak performance in terms of error correction methods to address insertion and deletion errors caused by error crosstalk. Therefore, we proposed an invertible neural network-based DNA image storage self-correction encoding method (INNSE) that uses the invertibility of network to perform up-down sampling processing on image and video data, thereby greatly reducing the number of DNA sequences required for data storage. A codebook generator was then designed to encode low-dimensional vectors into DNA sequences that meet various constraints. Finally, a self-correction method was constructed to achieve DNA sequence error correction at the base level without adding any redundant information. Our experimental results showed that, compared to the Yin-Yang algorithm, the encoding density of INNSE was increased by 3×, encoding time complexity was reduced by 95.26%. Under a simulated error rate of 2%, PSNR and SSIM were raised by 80.88% and 63.82%, respectively, proving that INNSE has significant advantages in encoding performance and error correction ability.

More Electric Aircraft with electro-mechanical actuator(EMA) or electro-hydrostatic actuator(EHA) is the development trend of new aircraft. In high temperature conditions, the transmission clearance of EMA transmission system may change because of thermal deformation. If the transmission clearance decreases, the EMA may get stuck;If the transmission clearance increases, it will affect the control accuracy of the aircraft control. This paper investigates the transmission clearance of EMA transmission system when subjected to the combined effects of an external high-temperature environment and internal heat sources. To calculate the temperature distribution of EMA transmission system, A heat transfer model of the EMA is established. Based on this temperature distribution, the EMA transmission clearance can be calculated. an EMA dynamic model, involved nonlinear clearance, is established to analysis the effects of the transmission clearance on the actuator's output performance. This research provides a reference for studying the design clearances of EMA under high temperature conditions. © 2023 IEEE.

Porous n-GaN/CuxZn1-xS UV Photodetectors fabricated by a heterojunction between porous n-GaN and CuxZn1-xS films were prepared by thermal annealing and chemical bath deposition. By adjusting the ratio of Cu and Zn in the CuxZn1-xS films, with x defined as Cu (mol%)/(Cu+Zn) (mol%),distinct transparency, conductivity, and energy banding properties are achieved, which thereby significantly influences the optoelectronic performance of the UV PDs. The findings of the study demonstrated that the devices exhibit excellent rectification characteristics and repeatable photocurrent responses. When the value of x is 0.4, in particular, exhibits pronounced performances working under a ultraviolet light of 43.5 μW/cm2 at 0 V, including high on/off ratio (~5.27×104), remarkable responsivity (0. 574 A/W), ultrahigh specific detectivity (8.75×1014 Jones), high external quantum efficiency (195.02%) and fast response speed (0.09/36 ms). This study provides theoretical insights and experimental evidence to facilitate the development of next-generation optoelectronic devices utilizing CuxZn1-xS /GaN heterojunctions. © 2025, The Authors. Constrained Probabilistic Pareto Dominance for Expensive Constrained Multiobjective Optimization Problems

This paper proposes a new parameterless constraint-handling technique, named constrained probabilistic Pareto dominance (CPPD), for expensive constrained multiobjective optimization problems (CMOPs). In CPPD, when comparing two solutions, in terms of each original objective, we design a new objective for each solution, which is the negative product of two probabilities calculated based on the predicted fitness mean values and the uncertainty information provided by Kriging models: 1) the probability that this solution satisfies all constraints, denoted as PoF, and 2) the probability that this solution is better than the other on the original objective, denoted as PoB. It is evident that for each solution, PoF and PoB indicate its feasibility and its optimality on the corresponding original objective, respectively. Then, Pareto dominance based on new objectives is executed. As a result, both competitive feasible solutions and promising infeasible solutions with good diversity can be preserved by CPPD. These two kinds of solutions can help the population to exploit the located feasible parts and to explore new feasible parts, respectively. Further, based on CPPD, we develop a Pareto-based Kriging-assisted constrained multiobjective evolutionary algorithm (called PEA) to deal with expensive CMOPs with two or three objectives. Finally, PEA is generalized to solve expensive constrained many-objective optimization problems, named PEA+. The effectiveness of CPPD, PEA, and PEA+ is verified by comprehensive experiments. IEEE

Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) has become an ideal medium for long-term storage and retrieval due to its extremely high storage density and long-term stability. But access efficiency is an existing bottleneck in DNA storage, especially the lack of high-quality random access address sequences. Therefore, in this paper, we report a series of approaches based on k-weakly mutually uncorrelated (k-WMU) codes to design the address sequence to improve the access efficiency of DNA storage. To address the problem of DNA sequences that are poorly scalable at the base level, we propose a 0-m-ruling coding scheme combined with k-WMU codes that can make address sequences avoid generating secondary structure with stem lengths ranging from 3 to 9. Based on the decoupled structure, We further extend the k-WMU codes with error correction function while satisfying combinatorial biological constraints. In order to investigate the performance of the designed address sequences for real-world applications, we perform simulation experiments based on thermodynamic properties and error correction capability as well as compared the minimum free energy (MFE), melting temperature (TM), and average decoding success rate (ADSR) with previous work. The results show that designed address sequences have a high MFE value and ADSR and a substantial reduction in TM-variance while satisfying the combinatorial biological constraints. As the quality of address sequences improves, this will help to achieve accurate random access as well as enhance the robustness of the DNA storage system. © 2002-2011 IEEE.

Marine plastic pollution is a growing environmental concern, with plastic debris in the ocean having negative impacts on marine life and human health. One of the major challenges in addressing this problem is the slow degradation rate of plastics in the marine environment. In this study, the degradation of high-density polyethylene (HDPE), being extremely common in marine debris, is investigated when exposed to either (a) marine or (b) atmospheric environmental exposure. The weathering effects for this type of plastic were examined through ultraviolet spectrophotometer and tensile investigations. A chain-breaking activity in the microstructure of the weathered HDPE specimens was revealed. During the investigated eight (8) months of atmospheric and sea weathering, an approximate 10 % and 6 % decrease in ultimate tensile strength σUTS was noticed for the two different environments, respectively. Higher decrease was noticed for the respective elastic modulus E (Young's modulus) that was approximate 23 % and 21 %, respectively. Based on the available experimental test results, a linear decrease rate equation of all the investigated mechanical properties was proposed, to give valuable information regarding the residual tensile mechanical properties of HDPE after weathering exposure. © 2023 Elsevier Ltd. Semantic communication (SemCom) has received considerable attention for its ability to reduce data transmission size while maintaining task performance. However, existing works mainly focus on analog SemCom with simple channel models, which may limit its practical application. To reduce this gap, we propose an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM)based SemCom system that is compatible with existing digital communication infrastructures. In the considered system, the extracted semantics is quantized by scalar quantizers, transformed into OFDM signal, and then transmitted over the frequency-selective channel. Moreover, we propose a semantic importance measurement method to build the relationship between target task and semantic features. Based on semantic importance, we formulate a sub-carrier and bit allocation problem to maximize communication performance. However, the optimization objective function cannot be accurately characterized using a mathematical expression due to the neural network-based semantic codec. Given the complex nature of the problem, we first propose a low-complexity sub-carrier allocation method that assigns sub-carriers with better channel conditions to more critical semantics. Then, we propose a deep reinforcement learning-based bit allocation algorithm with dynamic action space. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed system achieves 9.7% and 28.7% performance gains compared to analog SemCom and conventional bit-based communication systems, respectively. This paper investigates the application of topology optimization techniques to enhance damage tolerance in structural systems. The focus is on worst-case damage distribution scenarios, aiming to minimize the vulnerability of structures to localized damage. The study proposes a methodology that combines topology optimization with worst-case scenario analysis to identify optimal structural configurations. Considering cantilever beam structures under three distinct boundary conditions, with varying damage sizes, the paper identifies worst-case damage scenarios in both fully and topologically optimized structures. The results demonstrate the algorithm’s efficacy in identifying these scenarios and its adaptability to different structural shapes, boundary conditions, and damage sizes. Comparative analyses between fully and topologically optimized structures yield specific insights into the structures’ performance, equipping structural engineers and researchers focused on topology optimization with valuable information to enhance structural robustness and resilience. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

This article presents a rapid frequency selective surface (FSS) design method based on Fourier transform. The method aims to overcome the complexity and reduce the time consumption associated with the massive input simulation datasets in traditional design processes, providing an efficient and automated design solution. By introducing Fourier transform, the amount of simulation datasets can be significantly simplified, enhancing the speed and accuracy of neural network training. The method improves precision and speed in handling tasks with multiple parameters, offering an effective tool for fast FSS design. With the aid of neural network construction, users only need to input the desired simulation result curve, and the neural network model will quickly output optimal FSS structure parameters. This approach ensures design accuracy and stability while greatly increasing the efficiency of FSS design. © 2024 IEEE.
