It is imperative for energy systems to reduce their environmental footprint in a cost-efficient manner, for which renwable energy sources (RES) and complementary technologies become desirable options to achieve said task. This is particularly the case for systems with different energy sources, as they'd be able to either address one specific type of energy demand and/or allow for the coupling of different energy carriers that would allow for technologies that normally don't interact to start complementing each other. Therefore, this paper proposes various scenarios for the UCY campus in which hydrogen technologies would allow for the electrification of thermal demand while harnessing the surplus production coming from a solar park, which is modelled through the Integrate optimization tool and validated through DidSILENT PowerFactory. The results showcased a rise of up to 58% in self-sufficiency while the annual energy costs and CO2 emissions were reduced by 45% and 48% respectively. © 2024 IEEE.

electrical Impedance Tomography (EIT) is a clinical imaging technique that gained a lot of attention because it is a non-invasive and radiation-free method. To obtain an inner image of the domain under study, a specific number of electrodes is attached to the surface of the object, then through a pair of electrodes, a low alternative current is injected. Potentials produced by this injection are measured with the remaining electrodes. Based on these boundary voltages measurements, the inner conductivity can be inferred, thus the image is reconstructed. The focus of this paper is to overcome the major weakness of the EIT image reconstruction technique, which is the low spatial resolution of the reconstructed images caused by the non-linearity of EIT inverse problem. This paper considers this problem, an optimization problem that is solved using the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) meta-heuristic. A variant of the standard PSO is proposed and validated, first on a circular mesh composed of 686 triangles then on a lung mesh composed of 2707 triangles. © 2023 IEEE.

Delegation mechanism in Internet of Things(IoT)allows users to share some of their permissions with ***-based delegation solutions require that only the user who has registered in the cloud can be delegated *** is not convenient when a permission is delegated to a large number of temporarily ***,some works like CapBAC delegate permissions locally in an offline ***,this is difficult to revoke and modify the offline delegated *** this work,we propose a traceable capability-based access control approach(TCAC)that can revoke and modify permissions by tracking the trajectories of permissions *** define a time capability tree(TCT)that can automatically extract permissions trajectories,and we also design a new capability token to improve the permission verification,revocation and modification *** experiment results show that TCAC has less token verification and revocation/modification time than those of CapBAC and *** can discover 73.3%unvisited users in the case of delegating and accessing *** provides more information about the permissions delegation relationships,and opens up new possibilities to guarantee the global security in IoT delegation *** the best of our knowledge,TCAC is the first work to capture the unvisited permissions.

Here we report an intelligent soft robotic gripper enabled by the integration of an ultrasonic remote sensor and triboelectric sensors. Due to the noncontact distance sensing ability, the ultrasonic sensor is used to find the object's visual information including position and height by lateral scanning. The information is then used for adjusting the robotic gripper to an appropriate grasp location, after which grasp operation is performed to obtain the object's tactile information through triboelectric bending and tactile sensors. To efficiently analyze the multimodal information, a deep-learning neural network based on feature-level data fusion is constructed, which is able to achieve a high accuracy of 99.3% in classifying 14 objects, enabling the intelligent soft robotic gripper for various smart applications. © 2023 IEEE.

The high commutation speed of wide band-gap devices causes undesired voltage overshoots and oscillatory behavior observed across the drain-source port. The mitigation of these voltage overshoots and oscillations caused by the resonant interaction between the commutation loop parasitic inductance and the switch parasitic output capacitance requires additional design considerations. In this work, a Thevenin-based frequency domain approach for modelling the switch voltage overshoot and oscillations with respect to the commutation power loop is proposed. The switching transition and its associated slew rate is modelled using a clamped-ramp function. The two figures of merit used to quantify the effect of the circuit elements in the commutation power loop with respect to the resonant oscillations are the voltage overshoot and time to steady state. Using the clamped-ramp function and the two figures of merit, the effect of the parasitic inductance and the decoupling capacitor on the power loop is analyzed. The trends observed from the analyses are used to obtain recommendations regarding the sizing and placement of the decoupling capacitor in the power loop. The proposed Thevenin-based frequency domain model is experimentally validated by comparing the analytical results with both the LTspice simulations and the experimental waveforms for a SiC-based 400 V, 20 A double pulse test.

One type of wheeled mobile robot widely used in public transportation and for carrying high payloads is the tractor-Trailer wheeled robots (TTWRs). This study considers a differentially-driven tractor under pure rolling conditions, which is subject to nonholonomic constraints. Controlling a TTWR in both backward and forward motion is challenging due to inherent instability. To address this issue and achieve trajectory tracking control for these systems, this paper employs dynamic feedback linearization (DFL) to overcome the limitations of static feedback linearization (SFL). The system's response will be examined under various trajectories and initial conditions for both forward and backward motion. © 2024 IEEE.

Reconfigurable holographic surfaces (RHSs) have been proposed as a cost-effective and power-efficient solution for extremely large-scale arrays, where the amplitude of electromagnetic waves radiated at each element is controlled to achieve high directive gain. However, the complexity of acquiring real-time channel state information (CSI) required for beamforming is prohibitively high, especially when the near-field expansion brought by the large-scale RHS is considered. In this paper, we propose a codebook-based beam training scheme for a large-scale RHS-enabled communication system to bypass CSI estimation. Unlike traditional phase-controlled arrays, the amplitude-controlled property of the RHS implies that each RHS element can be selectively activated. This motivates an array reconfiguration method where a scale-changeable RHS array is constructed to generate gain-flat beams with different coverage in the angle-range domain. A hierarchical RHS codebook is then proposed where the coverage of the codewords in each layer is progressively refined. To address the substantial beam search overhead in the near-far field, a two-stage beam training scheme is performed in the proposed codebook, thereby reducing the overhead to a logarithmic level of the element number. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme performs better than phased arrays given the same input power in terms of sum rate, and it also approaches the upper bound achieved by the exhaustive search at a significantly reduced overhead.

This paper introduces a highly efficient energy management system for a microgrid that combines PV system, wind turbine, and battery. The study presents an effective energy management system specifically designed for a small-scale hybrid microgrid, focusing on the development of solar and wind energy conversion systems and battery storage systems. Power electronic converters and control algorithms are implemented to evaluate the microgrid's operation. The energy management system plays a crucial role in maintaining power balance amidst varying renewable energy generation and load demand conditions. The microgrid is a testing platform to evaluate control algorithms, energy management systems, and various test scenarios. It provides a controlled environment for assessing the performance and efficiency of these systems. The efficient energy management system comprises photovoltaic (PV) modules, wind turbines, and batteries. The proposed strategy effectively manages the switching between the PV panel and the battery storage system while prioritizing power generation from the wind turbine. The efficacy and success of this strategy in microgrid control under various operational circumstances are demonstrated through MATLAB simulation results.

The phase difference Δξ between locked islands(2/1 and 3/1) has been found to influence the heat transport on the thermal quench during disruptions by numerical modeling [Hu Q et al *** 59,016005].To verify this experimentally,a set of resonant magnetic perturbation(RMP) coils is required to excite coupled magnetic islands with different Δξ.The spectrum analysis shows that the current RMP coils on J-TEXT can only produce sufficient 2/1 and 3/1RMP fields with a limited phase difference of Δξ∈[-75°,75°].In order to broaden the adjustable range of Δξ,a set of coils on the high field side(HFS) is proposed to generate 2/1 and 3/1 RMP fields with Δξ=180°.As a result,RMPs with adjustable Δξ∈[-180°,180°] and sufficient amplitudes could be achieved by applying the HFS coils and the low field side(LFS)*** work provides a feasible solution for flexible adjustment of the phase difference between m and m+1 RMP,which might facilitate the study of major disruptions and their control.

We present a distributed algorithm for a multiagent system in a collaborative setting including the cost of actions. We revise the distributed Max-Plus algorithm by presenting a new Cost Distributed Max-Plus (CD Max-Plus) algorithm by including the cost of actions in the interactions of agents, named Factored Value-MCTS-CD Max-Plus algorithm. The proposed Factored Value-MCTS-CD Max-Plus algorithm is online, anytime, distributed, and scalable in number of agents and their interactions. Our contribution is an alternative solution for solving cost Dec-POMDPs competing with the state of art methods and algorithms using MCTS and Max-Plus algorithms to exploit the locality of agent interactions for planning and acting. © 2022 IEEE.
