In recent years, readings on text files become popular. We can use full-text search while we read text-files. However, full-text search has some weak points for supporting readings. We propose to introduce question-answering to readings of novels on text-files to avoid these problems and make a comfortable support system for readings of novels. We also propose several additional functions such as "Who? Function" and "Spoiler preventer". We checked the act of our system with various examples to confirm that our system works correctly in actual reading scenes. We also examined the computational complexity of the system theoretically and experimentally, and found our proposed method does not take a long time so that the user will not feel unpleasant.

This paper describes a magnetic tactile sensor with Indium antimonide (InSb) Hall elements for multifunctional sensing devices to detect the normal contact force and the temperature. This sensor consists of two Hall elements and a magnet that are embedded in a silicone rubber. The temperature characteristic of InSb Hall elements depends on the bias circuit to generate the Hall voltage. Two output Hall voltages driven by two kinds of bias circuits were measured in the normal contact force range from 0 to 50 N, the temperature range from -10 to 50°. The inverse response surface to identify the normal contact force and the temperature was formulated using the experimental results.

Nowadays, digital images can be easily obtained, recorded and processed in accordance with the widespread use of digital cameras and personal computers. There is an image enhancement as one of most general image processing techniques. In the image enhancement, unsharp masking (UM) has been used widely because its algorithm is very simple and can produce good results. However, over-enhancement occurs in edge parts of the image. Additionally UM also is easy to generate artifacts such as jaggy and halo. To cope with these problems, the authors proposed the selective UM method based on the edge-preserved smoothing filter. However, the image quality obtained by our method depends on values of the enhancement parameters, and their optimal values vary according to user's liking. In this paper, we propose an image enhancement system considering the user's liking by using an interactive genetic algorithm (IGA). In the proposed system, the IGA optimizes the parameters of the image enhancement. Further, a new genetic operation is introduced in order to achieve the effective search in the IGA of the proposed system. Through the experiments using some images, the effectiveness of the proposed system is verified.

In recent years, lectures using electronic devices have been tried in various educational institutions. Using these electronic devices is effective as a means of active participation in lectures for students. The Wii remote is one of these devices. In this paper, we propose the "Eeclass," an interactive lecture support system which uses the Wii Remote. One feature of this system is that students can write in the air using Wii - remotes instead of a blackboard. Implemented functions are as follows: (1) Automatic attendance confirmation, (2) Additional writing on electronic blackboard using an electronic pen device, (3) Automatic counting of a show of hands, (4) Voting opinions, and (5) Writing letter in the air. From the experimental result for 1077 Japanese characters using this handwriting function, we confirmed that the recognition accuracy was 78.5% for the first test and for the 15th was 98.8%.

attaining that of Rear Admiral to date from January 1 1967. His first assignment was aboard the USS PENSACOLA the heavy cruiser operating in the Pacific when the U. S. entered World War II. Detached from the PENSACOLA in May 1942 he received postgraduate instruction in naval architecture and marine engineering at M. I. T. where he earned his M. S. degree in 1944. Designated for Engineering Duty Only in that year he was assigned in November to the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard to serve in connection with aircraft carrier construction and ship repair until November 1946. The next month he joined the Staff of Commander Service Force U.S. Pacific as Fleet Maintenance Officer and in August 1949 reported as Production Assistant to the Director of the Ship Technical Division Bureau of Ships Navy Department. He was Assistant Repair Superintendent at the Charleston (South Carolina) Naval Shipyard for a two-year period ending in July 1956 after which time he attended the Naval War College Newport Rhode Island. Completing the course in June 1957 he was assigned to Puget Sound (Washington) Naval Shipyard. In August 1960 he became Shipbuilding Assistant to the Assistant Chief of the Bureau of Ships for Design Shipbuilding and Fleet Maintenance Navy Department and in April 1963 was detached for duty as Commander San Francisco Naval Shipyard. In December 1965 he assumed command of the Long Beach Naval Shipyard and in October 1967 reported as Fleet Maintenance Officer/Assistant Chief of Staff for Maintenance and Logistic Plans Staff Commander in Chief U. S. Atlantic Fleet. He also held the additional duty as Maintenance Officer Staff Commander in Chief Atlantic and Commander in Chief Western Atlantic.
