We present measurements of the E-mode polarization angular auto-power spectrum (EE) and temperature-E-mode cross-power spectrum (TE) of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) using 150 GHz data from three seasons of SPTpol observations. We report the power spectra over the spherical harmonic multipole range 50 1050 and ` > 1475, respectively. The observations cover 500 deg2, a fivefold increase in area compared to previous SPTpol analyses, which increases our sensitivity to the photon diffusion damping tail of the CMB power spectra enabling tighter constraints on ΛCDM model extensions. After masking all sources with unpolarized flux > 50 mJy we place a 95% confidence upper limit on residual polarized point-source power of D` = `(` + 1)C`/2π 2 at ` = 3000, suggesting that the EE damping tail dominates foregrounds to at least ` = 4050 with modest source masking. We find that the SPTpol dataset is in mild tension with the ΛCDM model (2.1 σ), and different data splits prefer parameter values that differ at the ∼ 1 σ level. When fitting SPTpol data at ` 1000 results in a preference for a higher value of the expansion rate (H0 = 71.3 ± 2.1 km s−1Mpc−1 ) and a lower value for present-day density fluctuations (σ8 = 0.77 ± 0.02). We present NewsClu, an approach to collect, cluster, categorize and select news articles from the Internet. The framework is not limited to a certain field, resort or division of news - it is capable to work on any topic and runs on real time live data on the Internet. NewsClu keeps its user informed about that particular topic by filtering, organizing, ranking and clustering of news according to static, dynamic and social factors. Through event based clustering the framework filters duplicate and less relevant news, making it easier to read more interesting news in less time. NewsClu is innovative in terms of clustering and ranking compared to other approaches.

Recently, handwritten digit recognition using higher level features has got more promising results than conventional ones using intensity values, where the higher level features are considered as features of simple strokes in images. Although the state-of-the-art performance is very impressive, there is still room to improve better in both accuracy and computation complexity. In this paper, we propose a new feature based on linear regression to extract geometrical characteristics of handwritten digits. The linear regression-based features are utilized to cluster set of digit image in preprocessing. After that, each set of clustered digit images is inputted a hierarchical sparse autoencoder to extract higher level features automatically. Our method result achieves error rates lower than that of conventional method in the most of cases. The experiment shows that the efficiency of data clustering can get promising results. © 2013 University of Trieste and University of Zagreb.

We demonstrate fast universal electrical spin manipulation with inhomogeneous magnetic fields. With fast Rabi frequency up to 127 MHz, we leave the conventional regime of strong nuclear-spin influence and observe a spin-flip fidelity >96%, a distinct chevron Rabi pattern in the spectral-time domain, and a spin resonance linewidth limited by the Rabi frequency, not by the dephasing rate. In addition, we establish fast z rotations up to 54 MHz by directly controlling the spin phase. Our findings will significantly facilitate tomography and error correction with electron spins in quantum dots.

In this paper, we present an improved analytic method to the optimal trajectory generation of an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) in a dynamic environment. The proposed approach explicitly incorporates both the AUV kinematic and the geometric constraints due to dynamic obstacles and the terrain while rendering the near-shortest path by a performance index related to the path length. In particular, the proposed design is based on a family of parameterized trajectories determined by three adjustable parameters, which provides a unified way to reformulate the geometric constraints and performance index into a set of parameterized constraint equations. To that end, such a constrained optimization problem boils down to optimize those adjustable parameters, which can be analytically solved in the parameter space. The proposed solution enhances the methodologies of real-time path planning for robots in 3D environment. Simulation results verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. © 2013 IEEE.

In this research, a classification method for human touching behaviors to haptic therapy robot is proposed. It is difficult to apply explicit discrete representation for human touch behaviors such as "slap", "pat" due to the existence of intermediate touch behavioral patterns. Therefore a new classification approach for human touch behaviors using Self Organizing Map (SOM) is proposed, using its ability to classify the nearby data in to a group. Further in this research the axis of out put maps are defined to be meaningful by specifying the initial placement of the input data during the training process.

In this paper, we consider the flocking control and communication optimization problem for multi-agent systems in a realistic communication environment. In flocking control, it is common to specify the formation by setting the separation distance between neighboring agents and then design the control to maintain the desired formation. However, since communication quality will generally change during flocking in a physical environment, a predefined separation distance might not always be the desired communication distance. In this paper, a distributed scheme integrating potential function and extremum seeking algorithm is proposed to obtain the desired separation distance between neighboring agents in real time. A comprehensive performance index related to the environment is proposed, which captures a trade-off between formation tasks and communication quality. Since it is difficult to calculate the gradient of the performance in physical environments, an adaptive model-free extremum seeking algorithm is designed to solve for the optimal separation distances, which calls for no knowledge of the gradient of performance function. We illustrate the proposed method through simulations.
