Automated Analog programming In Hybrid Systems: A Method of Making the Analog Computer Accessible to All Engineers

作者: HANNA, ENSIGN JOHN H. MILLAN, ENSIGN HAROLD E. The Authors are 1966 graduates of the United States Coast Guard Academy. For the past year they have been engaged in the Academy Scholars Program which allows selected First Class Cadets at the Academy to devote the greater percentage of their academic hours to advanced study. Their investigation was entitled “Project AMTRAP” Automated Methods for Translating and Patching in Hybrid Systems. It concerned itself with the development of automatic methods for programming analog computers and the design and construction of a simple hybrid system for test purposes. Their work in the project forms the basis for this paper. They are currently assigned as student engineers on Coast Guard Cutters Ensign Hanna on the CASTLE ROCK in Boston Massachusetts and Ensign Millan on the MENDOTA based in Wilmington North Carolina. Both are members of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.

作者: KING, JF BARTON, DE J. Fred King:is the manager of the Advanced Technology Department for Unisys in Reston Virginia. He earned his Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Houston in 1977. He has been principal investigator of research projects in knowledge engineering pattern recognition and heuristic problem-solving. Efforts include the development of a multi-temporal multispectral classifier for identifying graincrops using LANDSAT satellite imagery data for NASA. Also as a member of the research team for a NCI study with Baylor College of Medicine and NASA he helped develop techniques for detection of carcinoma using multispectral microphotometer scans of lung tissue. He established and became technical director of the AI Laboratory for Ford Aerospace where he developed expert scheduling modeling and knowledge acquisition systems for NASA. Since joining Unisys in 1985 he has led the development of object-oriented programming environments blackboard architectures data fusion techniques using neural networks and intelligent data base systems. Douglas E. Barton:is manager of Logistics Information Systems for Unisys in Reston Virginia. He earned his B.A. degree in computer science from the College of William and Mary in 1978 and did postgraduate work in London as a Drapers Company scholar. Since joining Unisys in 1981 his work has concentrated on program management and software engineering of large scale data base management systems and design and implementation of knowledge-based systems in planning and logistics. As chairman of the Logistics Data Subcommittee of the National Security Industrial Association (NSIA) he led an industry initiative which examined concepts in knowledge-based systems in military logistics. His responsibilities also include evaluation development and tailoring of software engineering standards and procedures for data base and knowledge-based systems. 作者: BOLD, NT BOURETTE, AP Dr. Norbert T. Bold graduated from Marquette University and later received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Northwestern University. He served three years as a Naval Engineering Officer aboard an Aircraft Carrier and a Minesweeper and has nineteen years technical experience in shipboard navigation underwater target and SDMS projects for the Navy. He is currently a Program Manager in the Autonetics Marine Systems Division Rockwell International where his primary assignment is the development of advanced concepts and applications of SDMS to Navy programs. He has published several technical papers. was elected to four Scholastic Honorary Societies and was the recipient of a NROTC Scholarship. Mr. A.P. Bourette Manager Systems Applications Autonetics Marine Systems Division. received his B.S. degree in Mathematical Physics from Long Beach State University. He began his career with a Computer Analysis Unit. performing tasks related to computer application. programming and interfacing. He has made significant contributions to the Central Computer Complex approach adopted for the SSN-688 Combat System and has performed inertial systems engineering efforts on the MK2 SINS for the POSEIDON Program. He spent some time in the Washington D.C. area providing technical expertise to various Navy organizations. Upon his return he soon was selected to manage the Systems Applications organization at Rockwell International. This organization is primarily responsible for the Shipboard Application of SDMS. He has directed several application studies showing the significant advantages associated with multiplexing. Recently. he provided the technical direction for the FY80 SSN SDMS Preliminary Design Phase.

作者: CHRISTOP.CA THE AUTHOR is Vice President of Technology and Manufacturing for Sperry Rand Corporation's Univac Federal Systems Division St. Paul Minnesota. He holds a B. S. degree in Management Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Mr. Christopher joined Univac in St. Paul in 1956 later moving to Division headquarters in suburban Philadelphia as Director of Operational Services and Planning. He became Director of Procurement and Administrative Services. Before returning to the Federal Systems Division in his present capacity he was general manager of the Univac Division operations in Utica-Ilion New York. In his present position Mr. Christopher is responsible for engineering and programming factory operations (manufacturing) procurement advanced development program management and the Federal Systems Division's Salt Lake City Utah operations. In 1969 he was cited as Greater Utica's “Industrial Man of the Year.” Mr. Christopher is a member of the Society for the Advancement of Management and the Electronics Industries Association.

He earned a fleet appointment to the United States Naval Academy and was commissioned an ensign in 1951. He is currently the Deputy Chief of Naval Operations (Surface Warfare). Following graduation from the Naval Academy VAdm. Metcalf served as engineering officer then operations officer in USSWatts(DD-567). Following a tour as gunnery and missile officer on the staff of Commander Cruiser Division Six he commanded USSKing County(AG-157). Subsequent sea commands were USSWestchester County(LST-1167) commander Landing Division Ninety-Two and USSBradley(FF-1041). Follow-on sea commands were Commander Destroyer Squadron Thirty-Three Commander Naval Surface Group Mid-Pacific Commander Cruiser Destroyer Group Eight/Battle Group Two United States Sixth Fleet. His most recent assignment was as Commander Second Fleet/Commander Strike Fleet Atlantic/Commander Joint Task Force 120 in which VAdm. Metcalf commanded joint U.S. forces during the successful rescue of U.S. citizens from Grenada. VAdm. Metcalf's assignments ashore have included instructor in ordnance and gunnery at the U. S. Naval Academy and a tour at the Bureau of Naval Personnel in the Office of Promotion Plans. He served in the Office of the Secretary of Defense at the Advanced Research and Development Center in Bangkok Thailand. In the Office of the Chief of Naval Operatins he was head of the Planning Branch of the Programming Division. Returning to the Bureau of Naval Personnel VAdm. Metcalf served as depty to the Assistant Chief of Naval Personnel for Personnel Planning and Programming and then as assistant chief of Naval Personnel for Financial Management and Management Information. Subsequently he was director of the General Planning and Programming Division in the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations. VAdm.
