Fluorescence ratiometric temperature sensing system for stand-off temperature measurements in the physiological range is presented. It is based on the use of fluorescence dyes and an integrating photodetector system. The system is intended for use in neonatal intensive care units (NICU). It utilizes a measurement and a reference fluorescence dyes encapsulated in a film. Fluorescence is excited using LEDs and the emission is detected using photodiodes equipped with optical band pass filters. The current generated by the photodiodes is integrated and the charge is digitized. The fluorescence intensity is calculated as the difference in the measured intensities when the LED is on or off. The ratio of the two emission intensities depends linearly on the temperature. The system operates under room-light illumination with resolution

In recent years, there have been a number of reported studies on the use of non-destructive technique to evaluate and determine mango maturity and ripeness levels. However, most of these reported works were conducted using single-modality sensing systems, either using an electronic nose (e-nose), acoustics, CCD, IR sensor or by other non-destructive measurements. This paper presents the work on the classification of mangoes ( Magnifera Indica cv. Harumanis ) maturity and ripeness levels using data fusion of the electronic nose (e-nose) and acoustic sensor and combine with CCD and IR sensor. A Fourier-based shape separation method was developed from CCD camera images to grade mango by its shape and able to correctly classify 100%. Colour intensity from infrared image was used to distinguish and classify the level of maturity and ripeness of the fruits. The finding shows 92% correct classification of maturity levels by using infrared vision Three groups of samples each from two different harvesting times (week 7 and week 8) were evaluated by the e-nose and then followed by the acoustic sensor. By applying a low level data fusion technique on the e-nose and acoustic data, the classification for maturity and ripeness levels using LDA was improved.

Wireless sensor Network (WSN) is vulnerable to interference from other wireless technologies such as WLAN, Bluetooth and cordless phone due to its low transmission power, data rate and bandwidth. Energy Detection (ED) is one of the available sensing technique available in Clear Channel Assessment (CCA) that is used to reduce packet collision due to interference and hidden terminal problem. To the authors' knowledge, there are numerous studies that have been conducted to investigate the coexistence of WSN with other wireless technologies and methods to overcome interference have been proposed. However, only a few studies involves ED. Thus, this study aims to investigate the impact of multimedia streaming on ED and packet loss in the home environment. A series of experimental tests were conducted in actual environment in order to study the interference phenomenon of ED and packet loss. This investigation will provide some valuable insight regarding ED in real-home environment and findings from this study will served as a baseline study or reference for future studies.

In this paper, we proposed an efficient way of allocating short addresses in real-time for the USN (Ubiquitous sensor Network) devices. By the "efficient" we mean that the 16-hit address space is never wasted. The proposed addressing mechanism is based upon the information of the Last Address Assigned (LAA) that is delivered over the beacon every time it is transmitted. In contrast to the ZigBee hierarchical block addressing based on C-skip address blocks, the proposed scheme is not a systematic way of allocating short addresses and thus tree-routing is not available. However, it has great advantages when real applications for U-City services are considered. Moreover, the proposed mechanism can provide mobility of the USN devices, expandability of the wireless network, and fast device discovery.

Platinum/Gold bimetallic (Pt/Au) nanoparticles were successfully synthesized by green synthesis method in aqueous solution under mild condition using polysaccharide as a protecting agent as well as a reducing agent. The metal nanoparticles were supported on hydrotalcite (HT) surface by sol immobilization method and further utilized as heterogeneous catalyst. The surface morphology and compositions of supported platinum/gold (PtAu/HT) were analyzed by XRD and ICP-MS. The lattice parameter calculated from XRD diffraction pattern (111) of PtmAu100-m exhibited linearly with their compositions only at low Pt concentrations (i.e., 20 and 40% Pt). However the result XRD pattern support that Pt/Au metal might be formed the partially alloy or partially phase segregation at high Pt concentrations, (i.e., 60, 80, and 90% Pt). The catalysis of PtmAu100-m/HT (1 wt%) were evaluated for glycerol oxidation in base-free aqueous solution using molecular oxygen as an oxidant (glycerol/metal = 700 mol/mol). The moderate activities of PtmAu100-m/HT also remain with increasing of Au amount to 20%, in addition, the increasing of Au amount more than this value resulting decreased of an activity. It is due to the PtmAu100-m/HT particles size become larger with Au amount. However, the increasing of glycerol/metal ratio to 500 mol/mol was clearly seen that the presence of Au in Pt metal improved the selectivity toward glyceric acid, especially, Pt 80Au20/HT catalyst. This phenomenon is explained by the synergistic effect of Pt/Au bimetallic resulting in the decreasing of the undesired product.
