In this paper, we presented a novel pixelated structure for electrode plates and initiate an innovative design of capacitive couplers for wireless charging. This research aims to improve the poor performance of traditional electrode plates in the literature when the plates are rotated 90 degrees. This research utilized optimization technique to design the distribution of the positive (and negative) plate pixels, of which the optimization goal is to minimize the ripple of coupling coefficient vs the axial rotation angle. The simulation results show that the optimized electrode pattern is quite good and reasonable, proving that the algorism of the proposed optimization method is reliable.

Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) is an attractive technology because it can supply power to IoT devices where battery replacement is difficult or the maintenance cost is high. Polarization Switching WPT antenna (PS-WPT antenna) is proposed in this paper. The polarization switching characteristic makes this design a good candidate for 5G-IoT sensors powered by using wireless power transfer. The 3GPP had standardized 5G-IoT [1]-[3] in June 2016. It provides deep indoor and wide area coverage extension of 20dB over GSM. The 5G-IoT network can support 50,000 users per cell and a battery life of more than ten years. The key problems of the 5G-IoT network protocol are the coordination and communication between large number of IoT devices and the base station. Using the PS-WPT antenna technology, the cell coverage could be separated into several partitions to wake up IoT devices within one partition of the cell to avoid the collision. The PS-WPT antenna has been designed and analyzed in this paper for the polling protocol to solve the problem of communication and collision between 50,000 IoT devices per cell within the base station.

This study examined the effect of the surface conditions on evaluating ductile cast iron matrix with the eddy current method. Specimens having matrix with various pearlite ratio were prepared. The surfaces of the specimens are machined by face mill and shaping machine with various cutting conditions. Surface roughness of the test piece was measured. Eddy current testing was carried out with an eddy current flaw tester. Cutting condition affects the eddy current signals especially when a worn cutting chip was used. Difference of matrix can be evaluated by using eddy current signals, but the surface machining has unignorable effect. © 2016, The WFO (The World Foundry Organization Ltd). All rights reserved.

This paper presents a digital hand which is a type of model to mimic human hand operation in real time operation. Human hand performs various difficult tasks in daily life and shows dexterous operation to use tools or equipment, because it has numerous degree of freedom (DoFs) of finger joints and soft skin. To realize the mimic of human hand operation in real time operation to overcome the problems such as high DoFs, soft skin. We have developed the digital hand whose input to control hand posture is obtained from a hand posture sensor and soft skin is designed as mesh structure. Here, the way to define parameters of mesh structure is discussed. We demonstrate the simulation of the digital hand model and examine how the model is able to mimic the motion of human hand. © Copyright 2016 by SCITEPRESS - Science and Technology Publications, Lda. Clustering is a fundamental tool for data analysis. Typically, all attributes of the data are used for clustering. However, if a set of attributes can be divided into meaningful subsets, it may be effective to cluster the data for each subset. In this paper, we propose a method for dividing the set of elements of feature vectors into meaningful subsets. Considering the dependencies between the elements, the correlation is used as the metric for clustering. In order to effectively solve the optimization problem, a technique for graph cut is used. After dividing the set of elements into subsets, clustering is performed for each subset. Experiments using a handwritten image database show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

The motion capture is a useful technique for creating animations instead of manual labor,but the expensive camera based devices restrict its practical application. The emerging of inexpensive small size of depth-sensing devices provides us opportunities to reconstitute motion capture *** introduced a network of 3D depth sensors into the production of real time 3DCG *** to the existing system, the new system works well for data communication and anime rendering. We discuss below server how communicate with a group of sensors, and how we operate a group of sensors in the rendering of animation. Some results of verification experiments are provided as well.

We investigated the fabrication of diamond-like carbon (DLC) emitter patterns by roomerature curing nanoimprint lithography (RTC-NIL) with polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) molds using polysiloxane, as an application to the emitter for the next generation flat panel display. The DLC which has excellent properties similar to diamond properties was used as a pattern material. A PDMS was used as a mold material and fabricated by the following optimum conditions of the first curing time at RT for 36 h and the second curing time at the temperature of 150 °C for 15 mins. The polysiloxane is in the state of sticky liquid at RT and stable in air. Therefore, the polysiloxane was used the electron beam (EB) resist and oxide mask material in EB lithography, and also used as RT-imprint material. First, we fabricated the PDMS mold with pit array. Each dot is 5 Âm-diameter and 400 nm-depth. We carried out the RTC-NIL process with PDMS molds using polysiloxane under the following optimum imprint conditions of 0.5 MPa-imprinting pressure, 1.5 min-the time between spin-coat and imprint, and 5 min-imprinting time. Next, the residual layer of imprinted polysiloxane pattern was 450 nm and then was removed with electron cyclotron resonance (ECR) trifluoromethane (CHF3) ion shower under the conditions of 300 eV-ion energy and 3 min-etching time. Then, we processed the imprinted polysiloxane patterns on the DLC film with an ECR oxygen (O2) ion shower under the conditions of 400 eV-ion energy and 12 min-etching time. As a result, we succeeded in fabricating convex DLC emitter patterns with high accuracy which has 5 m-diameter and 500 nm-height. © 2016 Materials Research Society.

We investigated the fabrication of convex diamond-like carbon (DLC) based microgears in roomerature curing nanoimprint lithography (RTC-NIL) using the ladder-type hydrogen silsesquioxane (HSQ), as an application for the medical micro electro mechanical system (MEMS). The HSQ which is an inorganic polymer of sol-gel system turns into a gel when exposed to air and has the siloxane bond. Therefore, the HSQ was used as RT-imprinting material, and also used as an oxide mask material in electron cyclotron resonance (ECR) oxygen (O2) ion shower etching. We fabricated the polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) mold with concave microgear patterns which has 40, 50 and 60 μm-tip diameter and 300 nm-depth. We carried out the RTC-NIL process using the PDMS mold under the following optimum conditions of 0.10 MPa-imprinting pressure and 1.0 min-imprinting time. We found that the residual layer of imprinted HSQ microgear patterns was removed with ECR trifluoromethane (CHF3) ion shower under the following conditions of 300 eV-ion energy and 2.0 min-etching time, and then microgears of the HSQ on the DLC film were etched with ECR O2 ion shower under the following conditions of 400 eV-ion energy and 10 min-etching time. As a result, the convex DLC based microgears which have 40, 50 and 60 μm-tip diameter and 400 nm-height were fabricated with high accuracy in the new fabrication process of RTC-NIL. © 2016 Materials Research Society.

Adhesion of oxide layer to metal-doped aluminum hydride surface: Density functional calculations

The density functional theory (DFT) calculations were carried out to evaluate the adhesion energy of the oxide layer to the metal-doped surface of hydrogen storage material, aluminum hydride (alane, AlH3). The total energy calculations using slab model revealed that the surface doping of some metals to aluminum hydride weakens the adhesion strength of the oxide layer. The influence of titanium, iron, cobalt, and zirconium doping on adhesion strength were evaluated. Except for iron doping, the adhesion strength becomes weak by the doping.

Proper encoding for snapshot-entropy scaling in two-dimensional classical spin models

We reexamine the snapshot entropy of the Ising and three-states Potts models on the L×L square lattice. Focusing on how to encode the spin snapshot, we find that the entropy at Tc scales asymptotically as S∼(1/3)lnL that strongly reminds us of the entanglement entropy in one-dimensional quantum critical systems. This finding seems to support that the snapshot entropy after the proper encoding is related to the holographic entanglement entropy. On the other hand, the anomalous scaling Sχ∼χηlnχ for the coarse-grained snapshot entropy holds even for the proper encoding. These features originate in the fact that the largest singular value of the snapshot matrix is regulated by the proper encoding.
