Red tides off the Japanese coast caused serious damages to aquaculture industries in every year (Honjo 1994). To reduce fisheries damage due to red tide, it is important to inform aquaculturist of red tides in short-term scale distribution. We developed a monitoring system which collects real-time data with a buoy to detect the occurrence of red tides on the sea. Our system can obtain data from a buoy drifted on the sea. The buoy has a GPS and two kinds of sensors that measure temperature and illuminance, and can connect to the Internet using mobile phone network. This paper describes a composition of our system, and a visualization of these data. In our experiments, the observing data was collected by the buoy in the middle of the Yatsushiro Sea. According to the experimental results, it was found that the movement of the buoy was mainly driven by tide current, rather than wind. Computer graphics application becomes more and more attractive recently as the popularization of the smart phone and computer tablet. It is interested us what we can do through network for making 3DCG models. We have designed and developed an interactive 3DCG Builder system and tried to apply it on internet environment for on-line multi-player. In this paper, we shall provide our design policy and development process.

Analysis of lightning electromagnetic field using the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method have been studied in recent year However, large-scale analysis on real environment have not been considered, because the FDTD method requires huge computational cost on large-scale analysis. We proposed a three-dimensional moving window FDTD (MW-FDTD) with parallel computation and applied to large-scale analysis of lightning electromagnetic field with a real numerical terrain model. In this paper, we have studied about large-scale analysis of lightning electromagnetic field with real urban models considering many buildings using our MW-FDTD with parallel computation. We have shown effects of observed electromagnetic field on urban model. © 2016 The Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan.

An in vitro stretch-injury model for elongation-controlled neuronal cells: Effect of strains along neurite 15

Diffuse axonal injury (DAI), a major component of traumatic brain injury, is associated with rapid deformation of brain tissue resulting in the stretching of neural axons. Focal axonal beading, which is the morphological hallmarks of DAI pathology, leads to the disconnection of neurons from tissues, resulting in cell death. Our goal is better understanding of neuronal tolerance and help to predicting the pathogenesis of DAI from mechanical loading to the head. In present study, we developed a stretch-injury model that subjected cultured neuronal cells in which the directions of neurite elongation were controlled with microfluidic culture technique to uniaxial stretch and examined the effect of strains along neurite on the cell damage. Neurites from PC 12 cells were extended at 0, 45 and 90 degrees to stretch direction using a fabricated poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) piece having microgrooves in combination with PDMS substrate. Following stretch with a strain of 0.22 and a strain rate of 27 s-1, the morphology of same neurites were observed at 5 min–24 h. As a result, the beading along neurites oriented at 0 degree increased immediately following stretch and the increase was sustained until 24 h, although the beading along neurites oriented at 45 and 90 degrees transiently increased within 1 h following stretch. Many rupture of neurites was observed more in neurites oriented at 0 and 90 degrees than in neurites oriented at 45 degrees, however, the retraction and disappearance of neurites did not differ in any orientation conditions. These results suggest that the difference in strain along neurite induces different types and degrees of neurite damage and not strain of cellcultured substrate but strain loaded to neurite is important to evaluation of neuronal injury. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2014.

Sensor Network technologies are expected to be used in various kinds of application systems. Most of them, however, have been developed to work in a dedicated system. It is desired that various types of sensor networks could be operable in a same application system. To meet the requirement, we have studied middleware architecture named CMSAS (Common Middleware in Sensors, Actuators and Storages), which aims to realize virtual communications between various devices such as heterogeneous sensor networks, actuators and storages. In this paper, we propose the concept of CMSAS based on RT middleware, which was developed by National Institute of advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) to integrate components in robot technologies. We also discuss implementation design of CMSAS in wireless sensor networks to collect acceleration data. Copyright © 2014 ACM.

High resolution calculation for the Tsunami run-up simulation at Toyama-bay in Japan is achieved by using Adaptive Mesh Refinement (AMR) method. The method is tested at Hamana-lake for the tide simulation, the water level rising simulation at Toyama-bay and Tsunami runs-up simulation at Toyama-bay. AMR generated the fine mesh at the boundary line between the water and the land. In the case of the tide simulation at Hamana-lake, the reasonably agreement result with the experimental data was given by using the AMR. In the case of water level rising simulation, the method kept the reasonably constant of the total number of calculation meshes by deleting the fine meshes at the far from the interested region, and the method was applied Tsunami run-up simulation at the Toyama-bay.

In the hospital and nursing home, it is expected to introduce a bed-leaving sensor system to prevent an accident such as fall from bed and injury by wandering of care recipients. A retailed sensor is able to detect the bed-leaving with small error with the load balance of the bed casters. But its evaluation is no good because care giver felt inconvenience of the shape and weight of the sensor. So, we designed a caster load sensor that is lightweight and thin shaped for improvement of the retailed sensor. The prototyped sensor could obtain the load within 10% of the error and estimate center-gravity of the bed within 38mm of the error. Then, it was confirmed that the estimate center-gravity was corresponded the behavior of a subject position on the bed. Especially, bed-leaving prediction will be possible by detecting change of center-gravity. © 2014, Japan Soc. of Med. Electronics and Biol. engineering. All rights reserved.

Manual micromanipulation requires for operators to have enough experience and outstanding skill. A bilateral servo system attempts to convert difficult tasks so as to be felt easier for skilled operators. One of such a bilateral servo system, which reduces the displacement and expands the force, has been proposed by Kikuchi and Shiraishi[1]. However, concerning to the offset between a master manipulator's stiffness and a slave manipulator's one, its adverse effects of the operation stability becomes remarkable for the change of operator's dynamics. In an actual use, such offset may cause a heavy damage of the manipulated object by the operation. In this study, we propose a self-tuning mechanism which can eliminate such offset problem. And we have confirmed the effectiveness of the proposed method by numerical simulation.
