Dynamic searchable symmetric encryption (DSSE) enables users to delegate the keyword search over dynamically updated encrypted databases to an honest-but-curious server without losing keyword privacy. This paper studies a new and practical security risk to DSSE, namely, secret key compromise (e.g., a user’s secret key is leaked or stolen), which threatens all the security guarantees offered by existing DSSE schemes. To address this open problem, we introduce the notion of searchable encryption with key-update (SEKU) that provides users with the option of non-interactive key updates. We further define the notion of post-compromise secure with respect to leakage functions to study whether DSSE schemes can still provide data security after the client’s secret key is compromised. We demonstrate that post-compromise security is achievable with a proposed protocol called "Bamboo". Interestingly, the leakage functions of Bamboo satisfy the requirements for both forward and backward security. We conduct a performance evaluation of Bamboo using a real-world dataset and compare its runtime efficiency with the existing forward-and-backward secure DSSE schemes. Self-supervised learning usually uses a large amount of unlabeled data to pre-train an encoder which can be used as a general-purpose feature extractor, such that downstream users only need to perform fine-tuning operations to enjoy the benefit of "large model". Despite this promising prospect, the security of pre-trained encoder has not been thoroughly investigated yet, especially when the pre-trained encoder is publicly available for commercial use. In this paper, we propose AdvEncoder, the first framework for generating downstream-agnostic universal adversarial examples based on the pre-trained encoder. AdvEncoder aims to construct a universal adversarial perturbation or patch for a set of natural images that can fool all the downstream tasks inheriting the victim pre-trained encoder. Unlike traditional adversarial example works, the pre-trained encoder only outputs feature vectors rather than classification labels. Therefore, we first exploit the high frequency component information of the image to guide the generation of adversarial examples. Then we design a generative attack framework to construct adversarial perturbations/patches by learning the distribution of the attack surrogate dataset to improve their attack success rates and transferability. Our results show that an attacker can successfully attack downstream tasks without knowing either the pre-training dataset or the downstream dataset. We also tailor four defenses for pre-trained encoders, the results of which further prove the attack ability of AdvEncoder. Our codes are available at: https://github. com/CGCL-codes/AdvEncoder. In this paper, we consider the optimization of federated learning (FL) over a realistic wireless multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communication system with digital modulation and over-the-air computation (AirComp). In such a system, MIMO devices transmit their locally trained FL models to a parameter server (PS) using beamforming to maximize the number of devices scheduled for transmission. AirComp enables efficient wireless model aggregation by the PS in bandwidth-limited settings. However, wireless channel fading can produce distortions in AirComp-based FL. To tackle this challenge, we develop a novel aggregation scheme that combines digital modulation with AirComp to mitigate wireless fading while ensuring communication efficiency. We formulate this as a joint transmit-receive beamforming design optimization problem which dynamically adjusts the beamforming matrices to minimize the FL training loss with transmission errors. To solve this problem based on limited information at the PS, we employ an artificial neural network (ANN) to estimate the local FL models of all devices. Then, we derive a closed-form optimal design of the transmit and receive beamforming matrices based on predicted FL models. Numerical evaluations validate the advantages of the proposed methodology in terms of model training performance compared with baselines.

Night-time vehicle detection plays a vital role due to the high incidence of abnormal events in our daily security field. However, existing studies mainly focus on vehicle detection in autonomous driving and traffic intersection scenes, but ignore urban scenes. There are vast differences between these scenes, such as viewpoint, position, illumination, etc. In this paper, the authors present a night-time vehicle detection dataset collected from urban scenes, named Vehicle Detection in Night-Time Urban Scene (VD-NUS). The VD-NUS dataset consists of more than 100 K challenging images, comprising a total of about 500 K labelled vehicles. This paper introduces a vehicle detection framework via an active auxiliary mechanism (AAM) to reduce the annotation workload. The proposed AAM framework can actively select the informative sample for annotation by estimating its uncertainty and locational instability. Furthermore, this paper proposes a computer-assisted detection module embedded in the AAM framework to help human annotators to rapidly and accurately label the selected data. AAM outperformed the baseline method (random sampling) by up to 0.91 AP and 3.0 MR−2 on the VD-NUS dataset. © 2023 by the authors.

At present, the topic model based on LDA as an information recommendation method has the defect of neglecting the emotional information in social platform. Therefore, a microblog user recommendation strategy I-TES (influence topic emotionality similarity model) is proposed which combines emotional orientation with user influence model in this paper. Firstly, the user's theme distribution and emotional tendency is obtained based on JST model, the JS distance is used to calculate the similarity of user's theme probability distribution, and the two is combined to get the user's interest similarity score. Secondly, the user's influence measurement indicators are summarized into microblog influence, user's activity and fan's influence, and the weights of the three indicators are calculated according to AHP(analytic hierarchy process). Finally, the combination of the two is used to obtain the final score as the recommendation result. The strategy is tested on Sina Weibo user data set, and the experiment shows that this strategy has higher recommendation accuracy than the traditional recommendation method. © 2020 ACM.

Abstraction-Based Verification of Approximate Pre-Opacity for Control systems

In this paper, we consider the problem of verifying pre-opacity for discrete-time control systems. Preopacity is an important information-flow security property that secures the intention of a system to execute some secret behaviors in the future. Existing works on pre-opacity only consider non-metric discrete systems, where it is assumed that intruders can distinguish different output behaviors precisely. However, for continuous-space control systems whose output sets are equipped with metrics (which is the case for most real-world applications), it is too restrictive to assume precise measurements from outside observers. In this paper, we first introduce a concept of approximate pre-opacity by capturing the security level of control systems with respect to the measurement precision of the intruder. Based on this new notion of pre-opacity, we propose a verification approach for continuous-space control systems by leveraging abstraction-based techniques. In particular, a new concept of approximate pre-opacity preserving simulation relation is introduced to characterize the distance between two systems in terms of preserving pre-opacity. This new system relation allows us to verify pre-opacity of complex continuous-space control systems using their finite abstractions. We also present a method to construct pre-opacity preserving finite abstractions for a class of discrete-time control systems under certain stability assumptions. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. Isoforms refer to different mRNA molecules transcribed from the same gene, which can be translated into proteins with varying structures and functions. Predicting the functions of isoforms is an essential topic in bioinformatics as it can provide valuable insights into the intricate mechanisms of gene regulation and biological processes. Conventionally, gene function labels are standardized in Gene Ontology (GO) terms. However, traditional methods for predicting isoform function are largely limited by the absence of isoform-specific labels, sparse annotations, and the vast number of GO terms. To address these issues, we propose HANIso, a deep learning-based method for isoform function prediction. HANIso leverages a pretrained protein language model to extract features from protein sequences. It also integrates heterogeneous information, such as isoform sequence features, GO annotations, and isoform interaction data, using a Heterogeneous Graph Attention Network (HAN). This allows the model to learn the importance of different sources of information and their semantic relationships through the attention mechanism. Our method can predict function labels at both the gene level and isoform level. We conduct experiments on two species datasets, and the results demonstrate that our method outperforms existing methods on both AUROC and AUPRC. HANIso has the potential to overcome the limitations of traditional methods and provide a more accurate and comprehensive understanding of isoform function.

The sixth-generation (6G) network is expected to achieve global coverage based on the space-air-ground integrated network, and the latest satellite network will play an important role in it. The introduction of inter-satellite links (ISLs) can significantly improve the throughput of the satellite network, and recently gets lots of attention from both academia and industry. In this paper, we illustrate the advantages of using the laser for ISLs due to its longer communication distance, higher data speed, and stronger security. Specifically, space-borne laser terminals with the acquisition, pointing and tracking mechanism which realize long-distance communication are illustrated, advanced modulation and multiplexing modes that make high communication rates possible are introduced, and the security of ISLs ensured by the characteristics of both laser and the optical channel is also analyzed. Moreover, some open issues such as advanced optical beam steering, routing and scheduling algorithm, and integrated sensing and communication are discussed to direct future research. © 2023, CC BY-NC-ND.

Sentisand: Visualizing Individual Sentiments on Social Media Through Storytelling

Utilizing visualization techniques for opinion mining and sentiment exploration of social media texts is a pivotal concern in the visualization field. Research predominantly concentrates on the collective expression of numerous users on popular topics within the public domain. However, there is a need to focus on sentiment changing or evolving for individuals. This paper tries to integrate sentiment analysis with visualization techniques to enable individual users to visually explore the underlying sentiment stories behind their social media texts. Therefore, the SentiSand system is designed and developed based on user requirements. It employs innovative visual design to transform the text from users’ social media into a series of visual stories to facilitate users tracking their sentiment changes. The system provides the functionalities of visualizing the overview of the sentiment evolution over a specified period, the sentiment polarity distribution, and words used over that period as well. In a user study, ten participants with diverse backgrounds are invited to evaluate the system. The results demonstrate that SentiSand can effectively and intuitively depict sentiment states and changes. All participants gave the system high ratings across dimensions of creativity, practicality, and narrative coherence. Overall, this paper introduces a novel perspective and methodology for visualizing personal sentiments, thereby contributing to an enhanced comprehension of and intervention in individual sentiment states. © 2024, The Authors.
