This paper presents a robust real-time object detection approach utilizing sonar imagery from forward looking sonar systems, aimed at enhancing navigation and obstacle avoidance algorithms for autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs). Effective autonomous navigation of an underwater vehicle ne-cessitates precise knowledge of the surrounding environment. While cameras are often employed for near field environmental scanning, they encounter significant challenges such as turbidity and light absorption, which can compromise the reliability of visual data. In contrast forward looking sonar provide reliable measurements and detailed environmental information. However, the sonar images pose their own challenges, including low resolution and substantial noise, complicating the accurate identification of visual features. To address these issues, we propose a novel sonar image preprocessing method designed to improve object detection. This method involves systematically moving a predetermined-size window (in meters) across the sonar image, extracting data from various positions to create smaller, fixed-size images. The window size is determined by the sonar device's range setting ensuring that the extracted images will represent a consistent area of the underwater environment. Hence, extracted images consistently represent specific areas of the underwater environment. These preprocessed images are then utilized for training object detection models and as input for detection tasks. This preprocessing step significantly enhances the stability and reliability of target object detection making it compatible with a wide range of existing object detection models.

The optimization problem of bidirectional electrical vehicle charging (Vehicle-To-Home) becomes more and more important with rising energy prices and the required reduction of CO2 emissions. We maximize the usage of local solar power generation, while minimizing the power grid usage. This is constrained by the energy demand of the household and the required state of charge at departure as well as the idle times of the car at home. The problem is formulated as a Constrained Polynomial Binary Optimization (CPBO) problem, which is convenient for Grover Adaptive Search by representing the objective function and the constraints as a Quantum Dictionary. © 2023 Gesellschaft fur Informatik (GI). Digital representatives of physical assets and process steps play a decisive role in analysing properties and evaluating the quality of the process. So-called digital twins acquire all relevant planning and process data, which provide the basis, for example, to investigate path accuracies in manufacturing. Each single process step aims to perform an ideal machining after the specification of a target geometry. However, the practical implementation of a step usually shows deviations from the targeted shape. The machine-learning based method of probabilistic Bayesian networks enables the quality estimation of the holistic process chain as well as improvements by targeted considerations of single steps and influence factors. However, the handling of large-scale Bayesian networks requires a high computational effort, whereas the processing with quantum algorithms holds potential improvements in storage and performance. Based on the issue of path accuracy, this paper considers the modelling and influence estimation for a milling operation including experiments on superconducting quantum hardware. © 2022 Gesellschaft fur Informatik (GI). Quantum computing is an exciting field, which brought out many competitors, both on the hardware and algorithmic side. Although users are not expecting to outperform classical machines yet, they are still interested in quantum computers, which can demonstrate advantages of their algorithms best [Ar19]. However, for users, especially in the industry, it is not easy to find a quantum device, which fits their needs. This problem arises from an unmanageable amount of meta information about qubits and connections between them such as fidelity, error rates and timings. In this paper we propose a web tool, which helps the user to find quantum computers best suited for their problem or quantum algorithm. Further, it will generate necessary graphs and reports for benchmark studies, which can be directly included in papers of scientists. © 2022 Gesellschaft fur Informatik (GI). All rights reserved.

This publication presents a co-simulation framework that enables joint simulation experiments by multiple remote laboratories for analyses of smart grid energy systems that can also include power hardware-in-the-loop. It introduces a proof of concept where individual parts of an example electrical grid are modelled at three geographically distributed fraunhofer Institutes. The models differ greatly in terms of their used tools, functionality, control algorithms, and time resolution. Real-time and non-real-time systems can be combined as well. The framework is developed within the Distributed Grid Lab of the fraunhofer Cluster of Excellence Integrated Energy systems (CINES) [1]. The goal is to allow laboratory collaboration for addressing the needs of users such as manufacturers, grid operators and research institutions to test their grid automation solutions before field deployment. This testing can be done considering the interactions of various components and solutions at different remotely located testing facilities without needing to use the same hardware and software setup. A frequent starting point of quantum computation platforms is the two-state quantum system, i.e., the qubit. However, in the context of integer optimization problems, relevant to scheduling optimization and operations research, it is often more resource-efficient to employ quantum systems with more than two basis states, so-called qudits. Here, we discuss the quantum approximate optimization algorithm (QAOA) for qudit systems. We illustrate how the QAOA can be used to formulate a variety of integer optimization problems such as graph coloring problems or electric vehicle charging optimization. In addition, we comment on the implementation of constraints and describe three methods to include these in a quantum circuit of a QAOA by penalty contributions to the cost Hamiltonian, conditional gates using ancilla qubits, and a dynamical decoupling strategy. Finally, as a showcase of qudit-based QAOA, we present numerical results for a charging optimization problem mapped onto a maximum-k-graph-coloring problem. Our work illustrates the flexibility of qudit systems to solve integer optimization problems.

Within this survey an approach is presented for the simultaneous online identification and localization of grid disturbances in transmission power systems using different techniques for multivariate time series classification. For the generation of the training data dynamic simulations are performed using DIgSILENT ® PowerFactory combined with a Monte Carlo based initial state selection. Within this survey different classifiers are developed and compared with each other including dynamic time warping, support vector machines, shapelets, recurrent neural networks and random forests. The performance is evaluated in terms of classification accuracy and prediction time.

This paper introduces an approach of local voltage anomaly detection in electric power distribution grid using IEC 61850-9-2 LE Sampled Values (SV) as transmission protocol [1]. The approach was implemented and tested in a real-time simulation unit, where a defined distribution grid provides simulated voltage data. An analysis of transmitted samples on a receiver and computation device according to power quality measurements and their limits due to dynamic behaviour is done. The goal of our proposed anomaly detection is in contrast to previous approaches to detect disturbances caused by cyberattacks on ICS components in distribution grids based on an open communication interface. This paper defines the first part of detection at a local node in a defined grid configuration.

Energy efficiency and energy savings are not just challenges for urban areas, but also rural areas have to be addressed. Mostly rural communities neither have sufficient knowledge nor the financial capabilities to implement necessary measures. Such communities need simple and understandable advices to improve its energetic surrounding. This paper presents an approach to optimize the energy generation depending on the community's energy demand and the investment costs. The developed tool allows each community to create the most suitable set of generation devices. Furthermore we discuss the influencing parameters on the optimization model and its outcome. The results base on real data of reference communities.
