Attention-assisted dual-branch interactive face super-resolution network

We propose a deep learning-based Attention-Assisted Dual-Branch Interactive Network (ADBINet) to improve facial super-resolution by addressing key challenges like inadequate feature extraction and poor multi-scale information handling. ADBINet features a multi-scale encoder-decoder architecture that captures and integrates features across scales, enhancing detail and reconstruction quality. The key to our approach is the Transformer and CNN Interaction Module (TCIM), which includes a Dual Attention Collaboration Module (DACM) for improved local and spatial feature extraction. The Channel Attention Guidance Module (CAGM) refines CNN and Transformer fusion, ensuring precise facial detail restoration. Additionally, the Attention Feature Fusion Unit (AFFM) optimizes multi-scale feature integration. Experimental results demonstrate that ADBINet outperforms existing methods in both quantitative and qualitative facial super-resolution metrics. © 2025

DECTNet: A detail enhanced CNN-Transformer network for single-image deraining

Recently, Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) and Transformers have been widely adopted in image restoration tasks. While CNNs are highly effective at extracting local information, they struggle to capture global context. Conversely, Transformers excel at capturing global information but often face challenges in preserving spatial and structural details. To address these limitations and harness both global and local features for single-image deraining, we propose a novel approach called the Detail Enhanced CNN-Transformer Network (DECTNet). DECTNet integrates two key components: the Enhanced Residual Feature Distillation Block (ERFDB) and the Dual Attention Spatial Transformer Block (DASTB). In the ERFDB, we introduce a mixed attention mechanism, incorporating channel information-enhanced layers within the residual feature distillation structure. This design facilitates a more effective step-by-step extraction of detailed information, enabling the network to restore fine-grained image details progressively. Additionally, in the DASTB, we utilize spatial attention to refine features obtained from multi-head self-attention, while the feed-forward network leverages channel information to enhance detail preservation further. This complementary use of CNNs and Transformers allows DECTNet to balance global context understanding with detailed spatial restoration. Extensive experiments have demonstrated that DECTNet outperforms some state-of-the-art methods on single-image deraining tasks. Furthermore, our model achieves competitive results on three low-light datasets and a single-image desnowing dataset, highlighting its versatility and effectiveness across different image restoration challenges. © 2025

Metasurface-integrated silicon nitride waveguides for holography with full polarization control

Here, a silicon-based metasurface integrated on a silicon nitride (SiNx) waveguide is proposed, enabling continuous control of light's phase and polarization. By utilizing resonant phase, geometric phase, and detour phase with fixed inter-unit spacing, the metasurface achieves full phase coverage under arbitrary polarization states while reducing design *** demonstrate hologram images of letters under four polarization states: x-, y-, right circular, and left elliptical polarizations, achieving phase control with the same amplitude in corresponding polarizations. The results provide more possibilities for generating complex free space light fields via on-chip devices. © 2025 Optica Publishing Group.

As a promising cathode material for aqueous zinc-ion batteries,1T-MoS_(2)has been extensively investigated because of its facile two-dimensional ion-diffusion channels and high electrical ***,the limited number of available Zn storage sites,i.e.,limited capacity,hinders its application because the inserted Zn^(2+),which form strong electrostatic interactions with 1T-MoS_(2),preventing subsequent Zn^(2+)***,the approach of enlarging the interlayer distance to reduce electrostatic interactions has been commonly used to enhance the capacity and reduce Zn^(2+)migration ***,an enlarged interlayer spacing can weaken the van der Waals force between 1T-MoS_(2)monolayers,easily disrupting the structural ***,to address this issue,an effective strategy based on Fe doping is proposed for 1T-MoS_(2)(Fe-1T-MoS_(2)).The theoretical calculations reveal that Fe doping can simultaneously moderate the rate of decrease in the adsorption energy after gradually increasing the number of stored atoms,and enhance the electron delocalization on metal-O ***,the experiment results show that Fe doping can simultaneously activate more Zn storage sites,thus enhancing the capacity,and stabilize the structural stability for improved cycling ***,Fe-1T-MoS_(2)exhibits a larger capacity(189 mAh·g^(-1)at 0.1 A·g^(-1))and superior cycling stability(78%capacity retention after 400 cycles at 2 A·g^(-1))than pure 1T-MoS_(2).This work may open up a new avenue for constructing high-performance MoS_(2)-based cathodes.

Wide-Sense Nonblocking Conditions for Flex-grid OXC-Clos Networks

The emerging high-capacity optical networks make it urgent to design large-scale flexible mesh optical cross-connect (OXC). Though Clos networks are the theory for building scalable and cost-effective switching fabrics, the nonblocking conditions for flex-grid optical Clos networks without wavelength conversion remain unknown. This paper studies the nonblocking conditions for the flex-grid OXC-Clos network, which is constructed from a number of small-size standard OXCs. We first show that a strictly nonblocking (SNB) OXC-Clos network will incur a high cost, as small-granularity lightpaths may abuse central modules (CMs), rendering them unavailable for large-granularity requests due to frequency conflicts. Hence, we propose a granularity differential routing (GDR) strategy, the idea of which is to restrict the set of CMs that can be utilized by the lightpaths of each granularity. Under the GDR strategy, we investigate two system models, called granularity-port binding and unbinding models, and prove the wide-sense nonblocking (WSNB) conditions. We show that the cost of WSNB network is remarkably smaller than that of SNB network, and find that the granularity-port unbinding model can offer more flexible network-bandwidth utilization compared to the binding model, with a slight cost associated with switching fabrics. © 1983-2012 IEEE.

A survey of distributed algorithms for aggregative games

Game theory-based models and design tools have gained substantial prominence for controlling and optimizing behavior within distributed engineering systems due to the inherent distribution of decisions among individuals. In non-cooperative settings, aggregative games serve as a mathematical framework model for the interdependent optimal decision-making problem among a group of non-cooperative players. In such scenarios, each player's decision is influenced by an aggregation of all players' decisions. Nash equilibrium (NE) seeking in aggregative games has emerged as a vibrant topic driven by applications that harness the aggregation property. This paper presents a comprehensive overview of the current research on aggregative games with a focus on communication topology. A systematic classification is conducted on distributed algorithm research based on communication topologies such as undirected networks, directed networks, and time-varying networks. Furthermore, it sorts out the challenges and compares the algorithms' convergence performance. It also delves into real-world applications of distributed optimization techniques grounded in aggregative games. Passive non-reciprocal metasurfaces based on independently tunable nonlinear dual bound states in the continuum

Non-reciprocal devices are pivotal technologies in modern photonics, and their significance is increasingly recognized. However, achieving compact and efficient non-reciprocal devices remains a significant challenge. By leveraging optical nonlinear effects and introducing high-Q optical resonances, changes in the optical properties of the medium can be achieved, enabling non-reciprocity and reducing the required optical intensity. However, current research is limited to narrowsingle-wavelength ranges, hindering multiwavelength communication applications. In this work, we propose a metasurface with the double asymmetric periodic gratings structure. This design, based on its symmetricprotected dual bound states in the continuum (BIC), enables non-reciprocal transmission and optical bistability near two wavelengths. We introduce both in-plane and out-of-plane asymmetries: in-plane asymmetry adjusts the radiation linewidth of quasi-BICs, while out-of-plane asymmetry creates asymmetric coupling of incident plane waves with the metasurface in both forward and backward directions. Furthermore, we discuss the limitations and permissible boundaries between the maximum transmission of the metasurface and the non-reciprocal intensity range (NRIR) and describe how to approach and achieve these limits. Our research broadens the application scope of non-reciprocal devices and presents a new, to the best of our knowledge, design methodology. This approach shows exciting prospects for applications such as protection in high-power lasers and non-reciprocal signal routing in simulation computations. © 2025 Optica Publishing Group.

Co-regulation effect of solvation and interface of pyridine derivative enabling highly reversible zinc anode

The poor reversibility and stability of Zn anodes greatly restrict the practical application of aqueous Zn-ion batteries(AZIBs),resulting from the uncontrollable dendrite growth and H2O-induced side reactions during *** additive modification is considered one of the most effective and simplest methods for solving the aforementioned ***,the pyridine derivatives(PD)including 2,4-dihydroxypyridine(2,4-DHP),2,3-dihydroxypyridine(2,3-DHP),and 2-hydroxypyrdine(2-DHP),were em-ployed as novel electrolyte additives in ZnSO4 *** density functional theory calculation and experimental findings demonstrated that the incorporation of PD additives into the electrolyte effectively modulates the solvation structure of hydrated Zn ions,thereby suppressing side reactions in ***-ditionally,the adsorption of PD molecules on the zinc anode surface contributed to uniform Zn deposi-tion and dendrite growth ***,a 2,4-DHP-modified Zn/Zn symmetrical cell achieved an extremely long cyclic stability up to 5650 h at 1 mA ***,the Zn/NH4V4O10 full cell with 2,4-DHP-containing electrolyte exhibited an outstanding initial capacity of 204 mAh g-1,with a no-table capacity retention of 79％after 1000 cycles at 5 A ***,this study expands the selection of electrolyte additives for AZIBs,and the working mechanism of PD additives provides new insights for electrolyte modification enabling highly reversible zinc anode.

Elastic Plate-Coupled Dual FBG Configuration Enabling High-Sensitivity Fiber-Optic Accelerometer with Wide Frequency Range

Vibration sensing plays a pivotal role in structural health monitoring of civil infrastructures. This paper presents a novel Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) based accelerometer employing an elastic plate-coupled dual-FBG configuration, designed to achieve high sensitivity (56.5 pm/G) and broadband operation (30-800 Hz) while inherently suppressing temperature crosstalk. By placing a mass between two cascaded FBGs, the two gratings experience tensile and compressive strain individually during vibration, which enhances the sensitivity for a given acceleration and eliminates the temperature effect simultaneously. A theoretical model based on the geometrical design of the accelerometer is deduced and simulated based on finite element analysis (FEA) to achieve optimal parameters. A parametric finite element model integrating modal analysis and amplitude-frequency response simulations guides the optimization of resonant frequency (1262 Hz calculated vs. 1200 Hz experimental) and strain distribution.
