Previous Few-Shot Segmentation (FSS) approaches exclusively utilize support features for prototype generation, neglecting the specific requirements of the query. To address this, we present the Query-guided Prototype Evolution Network (QPENet), a new method that integrates query features into the generation process of foreground and background prototypes, thereby yielding customized prototypes attuned to specific queries. The evolution of the foreground prototype is accomplished through a support-query-support iterative process involving two new modules: Pseudo-prototype Generation (PPG) and Dual Prototype Evolution (DPE). The PPG module employs support features to create an initial prototype for the preliminary segmentation of the query image, resulting in a pseudo-prototype reflecting the unique needs of the current query. Subsequently, the DPE module performs reverse segmentation on support images using this pseudo-prototype, leading to the generation of evolved prototypes, which can be considered as custom solutions. As for the background prototype, the evolution begins with a global background prototype that represents the generalized features of all training images. We also design a Global Background Cleansing (GBC) module to eliminate potential adverse components mirroring the characteristics of the current foreground class. Experimental results on the PASCAL-5i and COCO-20i datasets attest to the substantial enhancements achieved by QPENet over prevailing state-of-the-art techniques, underscoring the validity of our ideas. © 2024, CC BY-NC-SA.

A new mechanism of new particle formation(NPF) is investigated using comprehensive measurements of aerosol physicochemical quantities and meteorological variables made in three continents,including Beijing,China;the Southern Great Plains site in the USA;and SMEAR Ⅱ Station in Hyytiala,Finland.D espite the considerably different emissions of chemical species among the sites,a common relationship was found between the characteristics of NPF and the stability *** stability parameter(ζ=Z/L,where Z is the height above ground and L is the Monin-Obukhov length) is found to play an important role;it drops significantly before NPF as the atmosphere becomes more unstable,which may serve as an indicator of nucleation *** the atmosphere becomes unstable,the NPF duration is closely related to the tendency for turbulence development,which influences the evolution of the condensation ***,the unstable atmosphere may dilute pre-existing particles,effectively reducing the condensation sink,especially at coarse mode to foster *** new mechanism is confirmed by model simulations using a molecular dynamic model that mimics the impact of turbulence development on nucleation by inducing and intensifying homogeneous nucleation events.

Half-wave commutated modular multilevel converter (HWC-MMC) is suitable for high-voltage large-capacity AC-AC conversion, and an appropriate capacitor voltage balancing strategy is essential. This paper analyzes the condition of capacitor voltage balancing and proposes a capacitor voltage balancing strategy based on optimal zero-sequence voltage injection using the model predictive control. Finally, the simulation is carried out to verify the proposed strategy.

The value of a statistical life(VSL)is a crucial tool for monetizing health *** explore the VSL in China,this study examines people’s willingness to pay(WTP)to reduce death risk from air pollution in six representative cities in China based on face-to-face contingent valuation interviews(n=3936)from March 7,2019 to September 30,*** results reveal that the WTP varied from CNY 455 to 763 in 2019(USD 66-111),corresponding to a VSL range of CNY 3.79-6.36 million(USD 549395-921940).The VSL in China in 2019 is estimated to be CNY 4.76 million(USD 689659).The statistics indicate that monthly expenditure levels,environmental concerns,risk attitudes,and assumed market acceptance,which have seldom been dis‐cussed in previous studies,significantly impact WTP and *** findings will serve as a reference for ana‐lyzing mortality risk reduction benefits in future research and for policymaking.

Experimental investigations on the characteristics of snow accretion using the EMU-320 model train

The driving condition on railways is negatively influenced by harsh weather such as snow because snow accumulation on the main parts of rolling stock leads to train malfunction and degrades driving performance. This paper presents a snow accretion test conducted in a climate wind tunnel to investigate the icing process on a model train. The model used within this experiment was the cleaned-up and 2/3-scaled version of EMU-320, which is a high-speed train in Korea. The model was designed without an electronic power source or heat source so that the wheels did not rotate and snow accretion on the model did not occur due to heat sources. To investigate snow accretion, four cases with different ambient temperatures were considered in the climate wind tunnel on Rail Tec Arsenal. Before analyzing the snow accretion on the train, the snow flux and liquid water content of snow were measured so that they could be used as the input conditions for the simulation and to ensure the analysis of the icing process was based on the characteristics of the snow. Both qualitative and quantitative data were obtained, whereby photographs was used for qualitative analysis, and the density of the snow sample and the thickness of snow accreted on the model were used for quantitative analysis. Based on the visual observations, it was deduced that as the ambient temperature increased, the range of the snow accreted was broader. The thickness of snow accreted on the model nose was the largest on the upper and lower part at -3 oC, and on the middle part at -5 oC. Additionally, the cross section of snow accreted was observed to be trench-like. Similar icing processes were observed to occur on the slope of nose. Snow accreted on all components of the bogie, and for all cases, the thickness of snow at wheel was the largest at an arc angle of 40 to 70 o. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is now a widely used modality for providing multimodal, high-quality soft tissue contrast images with good spatiotemporal resolution but without subjecting patients to ionizing radiation. In addition to its diagnostic potential, its future theranostic value lies in its ability to provide MRI-guided robot intervention with combined structural and functional mapping, as well as integrated instrument localization, target recognition, and in situ, in vivo monitoring of the therapeutic efficacy. Areas of current applications include neurosurgery, breast biopsy, cardiovascular intervention, prostate biopsy and radiotherapy. Emerging applications in targeted drug delivery and MRI-guided chemoembolization are also being pursued. Whilst promising progress has been made in recent years, there are still significant basic science research and engineering challenges. This paper provides a comprehensive review of the current state-of-the-art in MRI-guided robot intervention and allied technologies in actuation, sensing, new materials, interventional instruments, and interactive/real-time MRI. Potential future research directions and new clinical developments are also discussed.

Design of wavelength division multiplexing devices based on tunable edge states of valley photonic crystals

Wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) devices are key elements of Photonic integrated circuits (PICs). Conventional WDM devices based on silicon waveguides and photonic crystals have limited transmittance due to high loss introduced by the strong backward scattering from defects. In addition, it is challenging to reduce the footprint of those devices. Here we theoretically demonstrate a WDM device in the telecommunication range based on all-dielectric silicon topological valley photonic crystal (VPC) structures. We tune its effective refractive index by tuning the physical parameters of the lattice in the silicon substrate, which can continuously tune the working wavelength range of the topological edge states, which allows designing WDM devices with different channels. The WDM device has two channels (1470 nm-1523 nm and 1548 nm-1609 nm), with contrast ratios of 22.4 dB and 24.9 dB, respectively. The principle of manipulating the working bandwidth of the topological edge states can be generally applied in designing different integratable photonic devices, thus it will find broad applications. Passive acoustic monitoring is emerging as a promising solution to the urgent, global need for new biodiversity assessment methods. The ecological relevance of the soundscape is increasingly recognised, and the affordability of robust hardware for remote audio recording is stimulating international interest in the potential for acoustic methods for biodiversity *** scale of the data involved requires automated methods,however, the development of acoustic sensor networks capable of sampling the soundscape across time and space and relaying the data to an accessible storage location remains a significant technical challenge, with power management at its core. Recording and transmitting large quantities of audio data is power intensive,hampering long-term deployment in remote, off-grid locations of key ecological interest. Rather than transmitting heavy audio data, in this paper, we propose a low-cost and energy efficient wireless acoustic sensor network integrated with edge computing structure for remote acoustic monitoring and in situ *** and computation of acoustic indices are carried out directly on edge devices built from low noise primo condenser microphones and Teensy microcontrollers, using internal FFT hardware support. Resultant indices are transmitted over a ZigBee-based wireless mesh network to a destination *** tests of audio quality, indices computation and power consumption demonstrate acoustic equivalence and significant power savings over current solutions.
