Decreasing of available raw materials, fossil energy source and new approach made recycling necessary and inevitable. For recycling selective waste areas have been placed, where inhabitants can drop their waste for free. Waste containers have different saturation time, while gathering process is predefined, therefore independently whether it is needed or not they will be emptied. Further problem is that there is no optimization on the way to the container, which results in serious environmental load (noise and air pollution). This study deals with high level route optimization to minimize environmental load concerning noise and air pollution and by the application of real-time communication the appropriate containers are only going to be emptied. © 2017 IEEE.

Performance investigation of the crossflow water turbine by using CFD

Crossflow water turbines can be an alternative energy for the development of pico-hydro power plants. Multiple interactions that occur from the flow of fluid that collides with the blade is one of the advantages of the crossflow type so that this turbine has a high power coefficient. The power coefficient of a turbine is influenced by several factors, including the blade depth ratio and blade number. The objective of this research was to study the effect of blade depth ratio and blade number on the power coefficient of crossflow water turbines. This research was done in 2 dimensions method (2D) using ANSYS Fluent software. Variations of blade depth ratios used in this study were 10%, 20%, and 30%, while variations of the blade number were 16, 19, and 22. Each variation was tested at tip speed ratio (TSR) 0, 0.109, 0.218, 0.327, and 0.436 with a constant water velocity of 3 m/s. The results of this research indicated that the crossflow water turbine at TSR 0.436 with blade depth ratio of 10% and blade number of 16 generated the highest power coefficient, which was equal to 0.187.

In above paper, the figures were named incorrectly. The correctly named figures and explanations follow. Fig. 1. shows the magnetic flux density distribution of the motor. As shown in the figure, the magnetic flux densities are concentrated on the lip and bridge portions and are modified to show saturation. Fig. 2. is attached (b) to express the system more clearly. In the case of Fig. 4., the proposed algorithm is modified to more clearly represent and emphasize it. In Fig. 5, the longitudinal displacement part is added to graphically show how the information of the laser sensor is received in order to calculate the yaw angle. Fig. 6. shows the algorithm in more detail, making it easier to understand.

The emerging development of connected and automated vehicles imposes a significant challenge on current vehicle control and transportation systems. This paper proposes a novel unified approach, Parallel Driving, a cloud-based cyberphysical-social systems(CPSS) framework aiming at synergizing connected automated driving. This study first introduces the CPSS and ACP-based intelligent machine systems. Then the parallel driving is proposed in the cyber-physical-social space,considering interactions among vehicles, human drivers, and information. Within the framework, parallel testing, parallel learning and parallel reinforcement learning are developed and concisely reviewed. Development on intelligent horizon(iHorizon)and its applications are also presented towards parallel *** proposed parallel driving offers an ample solution for achieving a smooth, safe and efficient cooperation among connected automated vehicles with different levels of automation in future road transportation systems.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted gaps in health surveillance systems, disease prevention, and treatment globally. Among the many factors that might have led to these gaps is the issue of the financing of national health systems, especially in low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs), as well as a robust global system for pandemic preparedness. We aimed to provide a comparative assessment of global health spending at the onset of the pandemic;characterise the amount of development assistance for pandemic preparedness and response disbursed in the first 2 years of the COVID-19 pandemic;and examine expectations for future health spending and put into context the expected need for investment in pandemic preparedness. Methods: In this analysis of global health spending between 1990 and 2021, and prediction from 2021 to 2026, we estimated four sources of health spending: development assistance for health (DAH), government spending, out-of-pocket spending, and prepaid private spending across 204 countries and territories. We used the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)'s Creditor Reporting system (CRS) and the WHO Global Health Expenditure Database (GHED) to estimate spending. We estimated development assistance for general health, COVID-19 response, and pandemic preparedness and response using a keyword search. Health spending estimates were combined with estimates of resources needed for pandemic prevention and preparedness to analyse future health spending patterns, relative to need. Findings: In 2019, at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, US$9·2 trillion (95% uncertainty interval [UI] 9·1–9·3) was spent on health worldwide. We found great disparities in the amount of resources devoted to health, with high-income countries spending $7·3 trillion (95% UI 7·2–7·4) in 2019;293·7 times the $24·8 billion (95% UI 24·3–25·3) spent by low-income countries in 2019. Load Sharing Behavior of Double-Pinion Planetary Gear Sets Considering Manufacturing Errors

The unequal load sharing of double-pinion planetary gear sets (PGSs) would take place because of manufacturing errors. A quasi-static model, suitable for any planet train number and support condition, was proposed considering manufacturing errors. The load sharing ratio of double-pinion PGSs with four planet trains was simulated for various planet position errors, whose results show that the radial planet position error has different effects on the load sharing behavior from simple PGSs. The mechanics for this phenomenon was revealed. The effect of the planet train number on the load sharing behavior in the presence of different planet position errors was then simulated by introducing the equivalent error variable. Finally, the effect of gear eccentricity errors on the load sharing behavior were simulated and some important characteristics were revealed such that the planet eccentricity error has worse impacts than position errors, and the effect of the eccentricity error of sun gear could be eliminated by floating the sun gear.

We achieve long-range and continuous optical pulling in a periodic photonic crystal background, which supports a unique Bloch mode with the self-collimation effect. Most interestingly, the pulling force reported here is mainly contributed by the intensity gradient force originating from the self-induced backaction of the object to the self-collimation mode. This force is sharply distinguished from the widely held conception of optical tractor beams based on the scattering force. Also, this pulling force is insensitive to the angle of incidence and can pull multiple objects simultaneously.

The network structure and functional properties of gene regulatory system and their relationships arc an important research field in systems biology. In this paper, a new improved model is proposed based on the study of gene expression process. The model takes into account the effect of protein concentration on the gene expression, so as to obtain a new bifurcation point and improve the performance of the system. The validity of the model is verified by theoretical analysis and data simulation.

Study of the wind farm arrangements and wake characteristic using numerical simulation for crossflow wind turbine

Among of the renewable energy sources, wind energy is the fastest growing. To achieve economic scale, the wind turbines are usually built as wind farms. There are some designs of wind farm that most of them are proposed for horizontal axis wind turbine type. However, there is no wind farm design for vertical axis wind turbine, such as crossflow wind turbine, yet. The crossflow wind turbine could be used to extract wind energy in low wind speed and has a high power coefficient. In order to be able to work perfectly, a proper arrangement of wind turbines on the wind farm should be determine to decrease wake. The objective of this research was to study the effect of the crossflow wind turbine arrangement in wind farm with 2 dimensional numerical analysis using ANSYS FLUENT CFD software. The variations of the wind farm in the study were aligned and staggered configuration, in which the distance between the turbines were 0.5D, 1D and 1.5D, where D was the turbine outer diameter. Each variation was tested at the wind speed of 2 m/s and tip speed ratio (TSR) of 0.1. The study revealed that the best arrangement of crossflow wind turbine configuration is staggered arrangement within the distance S1:S2 of 0.5D:0.5D. The wake effect in staggered arrangement doesn’t disturb surrounding the crossflow wind turbine in wind farm area, because the wind is blowing in streamline flow. The appropriate distance between wind turbines would increase the power density of the wind farm. Compare to an isolated crossflow wind turbine, there is 10% increase of power density.
