Granular clustering is an emerging branch in the field of clustering. However, the existing granular clustering algorithms are still immature in terms of weight setting of granular data and noise resistance. In this study, a weighting possibilistic fuzzy c-means algorithm for interval granularity (WPFCM-IG) is proposed. To begin with, a new weight setting method for interval granular data is given. The principle of justifiable granularity is used as the evaluation criterion of granular data, and a weight is assigned to each granular data from two perspectives of coverage and specificity to measure the quality of the granular data. In addition, the idea of possibilistic clustering is introduced, which is helpful to improve the noise resistance. And, with the proposed weights of interval granular data, the influence of data with smaller weights on the clustering results can be reduced during the clustering process. Based upon these ideas, the WPFCM-IG algorithm is put forward, and its core idea, formula derivation and implementation process are described. Finally, the performance of the proposed algorithm is verified by comparison experiments on the artificial and UCI datasets. The experimental results show that the WPFCM-IG algorithm is better than other advanced algorithms in this field in terms of reconstruction error. Next, the WPFCM-IG algorithm is smoother than other algorithms on the collaborative relationship curve between the fuzzy coefficient and the reconstruction error, so WPFCM-IG can better optimize the fuzzy coefficient. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

High-dimensional data poses a great challenge to clustering, and subspace clustering algorithms have unique advantages when working with high-dimensional data. However, there are still some difficulties in adapting the nonlinear feature dimension, the selection and collaborative settings of kernel functions. Therefore, in this study, we come up with a feature reduction-induced subspace multiple kernel fuzzy clustering. Firstly, in order to solve the information loss caused by the nonlinear characteristics of the data, the multiple kernel clustering method is introduced, and some nonlinear features of the data are collaboratively mapped to the high-dimensional linear space, so as to better understand the characteristic information of the data. Secondly, due to the complexity of subspace and multiple kernel learning, we introduce the idea of feature reduction, and reduce the data dimension according to the importance of information, which can reduce the complexity of the algorithm on the one hand, and improve the role of important feature attributes in clustering on the other hand. Finally, the proposed RS-MKFC algorithm and the related 6 algorithms are compared on 6 ordinary datasets and 4 high-dimensional datasets, and it is found that the proposed algorithms are superior over the other 6 algorithms. At the same time, we discover the ability of RS-MKFC algorithm to screen important features as well as the function of feature reduction, and good results are achieved. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Traditional image emotion recognition focuses only on the emotion information embedded in the subject or part of the image, while ignoring the global emotion information. In this paper, we propose a new network based on Vision Transformer: a global perception network, containing a main module and a background module. The main module enhances the weighting of objects by showing the interdependencies between modelled channels. The background module further searches for emotional information in the background. In addition, we employ multi-task learning and Adaptive Gradient Clipping to improve the network. Extensive experiments show that our proposed method outperforms the state-of-the-art methods for image sentiment analysis.

Aspect-based sentiment analysis (ABSA) is an NLP task that classify fine-grained sentiment towards one specific aspect from the same text. While attention mechanism has achieved great success, attaching aspects to abstract sentiment remains challenging. In this paper, we propose dual attention mechanism, a novel method to re-weight the distribution of attention between stack BERT layers, in prompt learning way with pretrained language model BERT. Specifically, after obtaining the most attractive words, the method raises weight of other possible corresponding words and makes model consider more comprehensively. To introduce more aspect information, we classify the sentiment in improved prompt learning way. Note that the overfitting using BERT on ABSA, we utilize the approach of staged loss that restrict the training not too small. Finally, the experiment results demonstrate the effectiveness and the stability of dual attention and provide a good insight of attention mechanism. © 2022 IEEE.

Facial Expression Recognition With Vision Transformer Using Fused Shifted Windows

Facial expressions contain massive affective information. Previous methods have focused on using diverse models based on CNN or Transformer to handle the facial expression recognition(FER) task. However, most of them treat the FER task as a general image classification task and neglect the impact of regions of interest (ROIs) for the performance of FER. To verify the influence of different ROIs, in this paper, we propose a vision Transformer based on Fused Shifted windows (FSwin), called FSwin Transformer. The semantic information of the face, obtained by ROIs, guides the FSwin Transformer to focus more on the key regions. The fused shifted windows enable the model to perform global semantic interactions, allowing it to concentrate on key regions without losing the topological structural information of the entire face. Additionally, learnable parameters are introduced to learn the feature weights expressed by each ROI, helping the model dynamically adjust the attention distribution. We have conducted controlled experiments to quantitatively verify the impact of ROIs. And the experimental results show that with the increase of the number of ROIs, the accuracy of FER is significantly improved, demonstrating that the key ROIs play an important role in feature extraction. The results on Jaffe, CK+, FER2013, AffectNet have reached 99.8%, 99.0%, 74.8%, and 68.9%, respectively, which all set new state-of-the-art. Extensive cross-dataset experiments also show that the FSwin Transformer has good generalization ability, proving that our proposed model has a beneficial effect on FER tasks. © 2010-2012 IEEE.

Over the years, energy time series forecasting has been widely studied and has played an important role in various fields, such as electric energy forecasting, solar energy forecasting, etc. In energy time series forecasting, it is crucial to building forecasting models for long series in order to obtain accurate forecasting results. Since the use of long series can cause the accuracy of the model to decrease. In this paper, we propose a deep learning model (TCNTA-BiGRU) based on a bi-directional gated cyclic unit (BiGRU) with a temporal attention mechanism to address the problem of accuracy degradation in long sequence tasks. First, in order to capture long-term dependencies, this paper divide the dataset and input it into a temporal convolutional network (TCN) to transform long sequences into multiple short sequences, which not only solves the problem that to cause gradient explosion or disappearance when processing long sequences, but also reduces the spatial complexity. Then, BiGRU is used to learn historical and future information and capture more short-term dependencies. Moreover, in order to enhance the model's ability to focus on data periodicity, a temporal attention mechanism is introduced. Additionally the autoregressive module is used to increase the linear fitting ability of the model. The model proposed in this paper is applied to the Electricity and Solar Energy datasets and the results show a better performance relate to existing deep learning models. © 2021 IEEE.

Aspect-based sentiment analysis (ABSA) is a challenging subtask in the natural language processing community, which aims to determine the sentiment polarity about the corresponding specific aspect terms. In existing works, external knowledge has been proven effective to improve the ABSA tasks’ performance. However, it is still essential to study further to find a universal method for ABSA tasks. Therefore, we propose an external knowledge-injected graph convolutional network (EKIGCN) to enhance the sentiment representation with commonsense. Specifically, Sentic Net is leveraged to provide external knowledge to construct an affective dependency graph. In order to fully exploit the effectiveness of affective knowledge, a shallow mutual interaction is utilized to fuse the learned contextual representation and the graph. Besides, to make EKIGCN sensitive to aspect terms, an aspect-aware multi-head attention module is also employed to enhance the corresponding relations between aspect and contextual words. Extensive experiments are conducted on three popular datasets to validate the effectiveness of our proposed model, and the results outperform the mentioned state-of-the-art methods in ABSA tasks.

Sentiment analysis data on Chinese shopping comments has gained much attention in recent years. Many previous studies focus on the relationship between words in a single sentence but ignore the context relationship between sentences. To better serve this problem, we propose a method based on Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERT) pre-training language model, Hierarchical Bi-directional Long Short-Term Memory (Hierarchical Bi-LSTM) and attention mechanism for Chinese sentiment analysis. We first use BERT pretraining language model to obtained word vector, then applies Hierarchical Bi-LSTM model to extract contextual feature from sentences and words. Finally, we inj ect attention mechanism to highlight key information. Base on the experimental results, our method achieves more idealistic performance. © 2021 IEEE.

Artificial intelligence methods offer objectivity and convenience in automatic depression detection, however, current research often neglects the critical role of facial landmarks. This oversight results in insufficient spatial structure information and a lack of detailed local representation, which fails to capture the nuanced semantic information crucial for identifying depression-related clues. To address these issues, we introduce a novel dual-branch network model comprising the Landmark-Image-Landmark Net (LIL Net) and the Global Context Vision Transformer Net (GCVit Net). Through a dual-stream, multiscale, and cross-fusion strategy, LIL Net is designed to extract original facial image features alongside landmark features, prioritizing the detailed semantic information of potential depression clues. LIL Net employs an innovative LIL Attention approach to jointly learn multiscale features from facial landmarks and images, thereby enhancing the model’s ability to capture fine-grained depression-related cues. Furthermore, the Multi-scale Feature Fusion (MSFF) module fuses the obtained multiscale features, augmenting the semantic expression of potential depression clues within facial landmarks via attention mechanisms. Meanwhile, the GCVit Net branch network supplements global information by extracting global facial features. Finally, the features from both branches are concatenated to enhance the accuracy of depression degree predictions. Experimental results demonstrate that our model has superior performance in detecting depression compared to existing methods. We release our code at https://***/xlx777/LIL-Net.

ASM: Adaptive Sample Mining for In-The-Wild Facial Expression Recognition

Given the similarity between facial expression categories, the presence of compound facial expressions, and the subjectivity of annotators, facial expression recognition (FER) datasets often suffer from ambiguity and noisy labels. Ambiguous expressions are challenging to differentiate from expressions with noisy labels, which hurt the robustness of FER models. Furthermore, the difficulty of recognition varies across different expression categories, rendering a uniform approach unfair for all expressions. In this paper, we introduce a novel approach called Adaptive Sample Mining (ASM) to dynamically address ambiguity and noise within each expression category. First, the Adaptive Threshold Learning module generates two thresholds, namely the clean and noisy thresholds, for each category. These thresholds are based on the mean class probabilities at each training epoch. Next, the Sample Mining module partitions the dataset into three subsets: clean, ambiguity, and noise, by comparing the sample confidence with the clean and noisy thresholds. Finally, the Tri-Regularization module employs a mutual learning strategy for the ambiguity subset to enhance discrimination ability, and an unsupervised learning strategy for the noise subset to mitigate the impact of noisy labels. Extensive experiments prove that our method can effectively mine both ambiguity and noise, and outperform SOTA methods on both synthetic noisy and original datasets.
