Perimeter intrusion detection systems (PIDS) often face challenges in accurately detecting breaches while minimizing false alarms triggered by environmental factors. This paper presents a reliable PIDS approach integrating fiber optic sensing with several environmental transducers and a sophisticated control algorithm. The technical framework uses a distributed network of fiber optic cables installed along the perimeter as sensors to detect vibrations and disturbances. These high-sensitivity fiber optic sensors provide input data to the control system. Environmental transducers like rain gauges, anemometers, and temperature sensors are incorporated to detect weather conditions near the *** core innovation is a two-part control algorithm that analyzes this multi-modal sensor data to classify events and make intelligent decisions. The first segment uses historical data to establish adaptive baselines tuned to different conditions. Machine learning models extract informative features to distinguish between various types of events. The second segment employs anomaly detection to identify disturbances in real-time sensor data. A Gaussian Mixture Model algorithm models normal behavior and detects *** testing under diverse simulated scenarios will validate the system's ability to detect intrusions reliably while minimizing false alarms caused by changing environmental contexts. Key advantages over existing methods include higher precision, addressing cold start problems, real-time low latency performance, cost-effectiveness, and resilience to unforeseen events. The proposed system promises substantial military payoffs by enhancing perimeter security and response efficacy.

As major energy companies continue to include renewable power in their portfolios, especially commercially available technologies such as PV farms, attractive parcels of land are more often being found adjacent to or even sharing pipeline rights of way (ROW). Where in previous years it was simple or effective to avoid these parcels and the engineering complexities that accompanied them, the challenges and costs of ROW acquisition are making co-located facilities - and the electrical interactions - more common, requiring consideration for potential interactions between associated systems. This paper will discuss potential AC interference, including faults, induced current, and capacitive coupling between PV farm and nearby O&G pipelines.

This study explores the application of Vision Transformer (ViT) principles in audio analysis, specifically focusing on heart sounds. This paper introduces ENACT-Heart –a novel ensemble approach that leverages the complementary strengths of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) and ViT through a Mixture of Experts (MoE) framework, achieving a remarkable classification accuracy of 97.52%. This outperforms the individual contributions of ViT (93.88%) and CNN (95.45%), demonstrating the potential for enhanced diagnostic accuracy in cardiovascular health monitoring. These results demonstrate the potential of ensemble methods in enhancing classification performance for cardiovascular health monitoring and diagnosis. © 2025, CC BY.

We give a proof of an extension of the Hartman-Grobman theorem to nonhyperbolic but asymptotically stable equilibria of vector fields. Moreover, the linearizing topological conjugacy is (i) defined on the entire basin of attraction if the vector field is complete, and (ii) a C k ≥ 1 -diffeomorphism on the complement of the equilibrium if the vector field is C k and the underlying space is not 5-dimensional. We also show that the C k statement in the 5-dimensional case is equivalent to the 4-dimensional smooth Poincaré conjecture.

With the percentage of mental health disorders on the rise and the cost for their treatment reaching astounding proportions, research in their treatment has also become quite extensive. Individuals suffering from the effects of their disorder constituting them incapable at various levels to lead a normal life, the need for a more effective treatment has been well established. We have focused on anxiety disorders specifically, which have mainly fear as their common denominator, and using this we decided to look into the role of the clinician in live ET sessions so as to examine whether this role can be replicated in a VRET simulation with similar or better outcomes for the patient, i.e. a more effective treatment. Our hypothesis was tested in an outpatient setting with patients being separated into two groups. We examined whether the presence of a virtual guided master using participant modeling in a virtual environment was as effective or more effective than the Standard ET method. Our VR system is based on the Full Body Immersive Virtual Reality System with Motion Recognition Camera created by Jacob Kritikos. The outcomes were gathered via the Session Rating Scale by Miller which led to the conclusion that participant modeling within a VRET approach can lead to a better treatment quality. © 2021, ICST Institute for computer Sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications engineering.

Automated vehicles (AVs) are expected to improve safety by gradually reducing human decisions while driving. However, there are still questions on their effectiveness as we transition from almost 0% AVs to 100% AVs with different levels of vehicle autonomy. The focus of this study, therefore, is on synthesizing and identifying risk factors influencing fatal crashes involving partially automated vehicles (PAVs) i.e., level 1 AVs and level 2 AVs, in the United States. Fatal crashes involving non-AVs (level 0 vehicles) within their vicinity were used for comparison, to minimize unobserved heterogeneity and randomness associated with the influencing risk factors. The fatal crash data for the years 2016 to 2019 is used for the analysis. A partial proportional odds model is developed using crash, road, and vehicle characteristics as independent variables while the fatal crash involving a vehicle with a specific level of automation (0, 1, or 2) is used as the dependent variable. The level of automation was captured by developing tools and identifying advanced features in each vehicle based on the vehicle identification number (VIN). The odds ratios varied for PAVs compared to non-AVs. PAVs are safer but are more likely to be involved in a fatal crash with non-motorists. Pedestrian automatic emergency braking (PAEB) and lane-keeping assistance (LKA) were observed to improve safety by reducing possible collision with a pedestrian and roadside departure, respectively. Contrarily, vehicles with other smart features are still highly likely to be involved in fatal crashes, demanding further research and attention. © 2023 The Author(s)

Our increasing reliance on digital technology for personal, economic, and government affairs has made it essential to secure the communications and devices of private citizens, businesses, and governments. This has led to pervasive use of cryptography across society. Despite its evident advantages, law enforcement and national security agencies have argued that the spread of cryptography has hindered access to evidence and intelligence. Some in industry and government now advocate a new technology to access targeted data: client-side scanning (CSS). Instead of weakening encryption or providing law enforcement with backdoor keys to decrypt communications, CSS would enable on-device analysis of data in the clear. If targeted information were detected, its existence and, potentially, its source, would be revealed to the agencies;otherwise, little or no information would leave the client device. Its proponents claim that CSS is a solution to the encryption versus public safety debate: it offers privacy-in the sense of unimpeded end-to-end encryption-and the ability to successfully investigate serious crime. In this report, we argue that CSS neither guarantees efficacious crime prevention nor prevents surveillance. Indeed, the effect is the opposite. CSS by its nature creates serious security and privacy risks for all society while the assistance it can provide for law enforcement is at best problematic. There are multiple ways in which client-side scanning can fail, can be evaded, and can be abused. Its proponents want CSS to be installed on all devices, rather than installed covertly on the devices of suspects, or by court order on those of ex-offenders. But universal deployment threatens the security of law-abiding citizens as well as lawbreakers. Technically, CSS allows end-to-end encryption, but this is moot if the message has already been scanned for targeted content. In reality, CSS is bulk intercept, albeit automated and distributed. Microelectrodes are widely used as a peripheral nerve interface (PNI) to connect the peripheral nerve to a computer for restoration of sensorimotor function and bionic device motion control. Materials used for implantable microelectrode are still facing the challenges from biocompatibility and bio-fidelity in neural signal recording and nerve stimulating. In this study, we report that carbon multi-electrode arrays (cMEAs) can be fabricated using carbon ink, micro resin dimethylsiloxane and 3D printing technology and ink for PNI. In vitro cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) demonstrated that the cMEAs have higher charge storage capacity (CSC) and less impedance than conventional platinum (Pt) electrode. In vivo studies using an animal model demonstrated that cMEAs are more effective in stimulating the nerve to elicit muscle contraction and recording compound muscle action potentials (CMAPs) than the Pt electrode. The cMEAs has lower stimulating threshold to elicit muscle activity, higher signal-to-noise (SNR) in CMAP. Our studies demonstrate that cMEAs can be an advanced healthcare materials in nerve signal nerve stimulation for PNI and muscle bioelectrical signal recording for peripheral muscle interface (PMI). © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
