Molecular hydrogen and its isotopologues are key systems to test quantum electrodynamics (QED) at molecular length scales, as their energy levels can be calculated with high accuracy[1]. Comparison of the theoretical values with highly accurate experimental determinations of transition frequencies allows one to test QED and theories beyond the standard model of particle physics[2]. Recent accurate measurements of rovibrational frequencies of HD and D2, covering mostly the second overtone band, have shown a systematic deviation between measured and calculated transition frequencies. Yet, available measurements on H2 are characterized by uncertainties one order of magnitude larger than theory. © 2023 IEEE.

Primordial non-Gaussianity from Galilean Genesis without strong coupling problem

Galilean Genesis is generically plagued with a strong coupling problem, but this can be avoided depending on the hierarchy between a classical energy scale of genesis and a strong coupling scale. In this paper, we investigate whether or not the models of Galilean Genesis without the strong coupling problem can explain the statistical properties of the observed CMB fluctuations based on two unified frameworks of Galilean Genesis. By focusing on the class in which the propagation speeds of the scalar and tensor perturbations are constant, we show that the models avoiding strong coupling and allowing a slightly red-tilted scalar power spectrum suffer from an overproduction of a scalar non-Gaussianity. This study proposes an approach to enhance the contrast breast ultrasound (BUS) images with the preservation of the finer details. The main idea is to use the relevant and most important features in the classification of BUS images as benign or malignant. Among the contrast manipulation techniques, both linear under- and overexposure methods, contrast limiting adaptive histogram equalization (CLAHE) method and homomorphic filtering are used. The gradient maps of original images are generated for further analysis. Also, the gradient maps of original images are improved by the local mean subtraction and divisive normalization. Eight structural features are extracted from each gradient map image type. The extracted features feed a Random Forest (RF) classifier to determine their relevance for BUS images classification. An accuracy of 97.12% has been obtained for improved gradient map images and 93.03% for gradient map images. © 2022 IEEE.

In this work, the molecular dynamics method was used for modeling the formation of critical nuclei at the initial stage. The deposition of a titanium nitride film on an iron substrate was chosen as a model object. The 2NN MEAM multiatomic potential was used to calculate the interaction between atoms. Simulations of N and Ti atom deposition on an Fe(100) substrate were carried out using the MPI version of the open-source program LAMMPS (Molecular Dynamics Simulator). The substrate was modeled as a semi-infinite crystal with a frozen lower atomic layer, periodic boundary conditions at the lateral crystal sides, and a free deposition surface.

The main focus of this work is to perform a computer vision classification method for upper gastrointestinal tract image analysis with a pre-trained deep learning features extraction stage. An open-source dataset was used containing images of upper gastrointestinal tract problems including Esophagitis (260 images) and Barretts (94 images). In the given input, image pre-processing with image re-sizing, and noise removal was applied, and then finally working extraction of features using pre-trained deep neural networks. The extracted data from the second last layer of pre-trained models represents the most prominent features. The extracted features are then classified with the help of machines and ensemble learning methods. The improved classification results have been identified using pre-trained models based on feature extraction techniques in comparison to traditional deep learning models.

In recent years, statistical evidence has identified melanoma as a major cause of skin cancer deaths. In this study, we propose a skin analysis lesions based on colour features (C) and Hu (H) moments to differentiate benign (nevi) and malignant (melanoma) lesions and, a classification based on Random Forest algorithm. Colour features are found as follows. Pre-processing for hair removing using the Dull-razor method;image segmentation based on the optimal colour threshold set on each RGB colour channel (red, green, blue);23 colour features extraction using the minimum and maximum RGB intensity and Hu moments;Random Forest (RF) algorithm to accurately differentiate benign and malignant skin lesions. This study used three datasets: 7-Point, Med-Node, PH2. RF classifier performance in terms of accuracy was: 94% for the 7-point dataset with H5, H7, H6, H2, C08 selected as relevant features;98.1% for the Med-Node dataset and H7, H5, H6, H2, H1 ACC the relevant features;and, 96.5% for the PH2 dataset and H5, H6, H7, C03, H1 selected as relevant features, respectively. Shape features based on Hu moments are found to improve the classification performance of the skin lesions compared to the colour features. © 2022 IEEE.

A combination between the information extracted for both right iris and left iris could increase the efficacy of the biometric recognition systems. In this paper, we propose a biometric identification method based on density of image patterns extracted from human iris images and the combination and comparison of the right iris and the left iris characteristics. The density of the patters approach for processed images can be a new biometric feature used to implement a biometric recognition system with high performance when a small feature dimension is used. In this way, we can maximize the retention of the effective biometric information. The experiments were conducted on the MMU Iris Database containing 225 images of the left eye and 225 images of the right eye. Two morphological Top-hat and Hit or Miss transforms were implemented to find out the particular pattern of pixels. They allow for the enhancement of detail in images. Then, a statistical feature extraction technique is employed to derive the density of the patterns in morphological transformed images. To assess the density of the patterns differences between the right and left iris data groups, the Pearson's correlation coefficient (PCC) is computed. We reported very good results with a PCC of 0.6164 (strong and positive correlation) for Top-hat morphological operation whilst the Hit or Miss transform returns a PCC of 0.0127 so there is no relationship between the density of the patterns in the right and left irises. © 2024 Institute of physics Publishing. Noncollinear magnetic structures and multiple magnetic phase transitions in a sawtooth lattice antiferromagnet consisting of Cr3+ are experimentally identified in this work, thereby proposing the scenario of magnetism-driven ferroelectricity in a sawtooth lattice. The title compound, BeCr2O4, displays three magnetic phase transitions at low temperatures, at TN1 ≈ 7.5 K, at TN2 ≈ 25 K and at TN3 ≈ 26 K, revealed through magnetic susceptibility, specific heat and neutron diffraction in this work. These magnetic phase transitions are found to be influenced by externally applied magnetic fields. Isothermal magnetization curves at low temperatures below the magnetic transitions indicate the antiferromagnetic nature of BeCr2O4 with two spin-flop-like transitions occurring at Hc1 ≈ 29 kOe and Hc2 ≈ 47 kOe. Our high-resolution X-ray and neutron diffraction studies, performed on single crystal and powder samples unambiguously determined the crystal structure as orthorhombic Pbnm. By performing the magnetic superspace group analysis of the neutron diffraction data at low temperatures, the magnetic structure in the temperature range TN3,N2 N1 is determined to be the polar magnetic space group, P21nm.10(00g)0s0s with a cycloidal magnetic propagation vector k1 = (0, 0, 0.090(1)). The magnetic structure in the newly identified phase below TN1, is determined as P21/b.10[b](00g)00s with the magnetic propagation vector k2 = (0, 0, 0.908(1)). The cycloidal spin structure determined in our work is usually associated with electric polarization, thereby making BeCr2O4 a promising multiferroic belonging to the sparsely populated family of sawtooth lattice antiferromagnets. © 2023, CC BY.

Veterinary titanium (Ti) real dental implants were anodized in calcium hypophosphite solution to obtain a porous, bioactive layer. The anodized implant surface was covered by a poly(sebacic anhydride) (PSBA) layer with amoxicillin. SEM analysis showed an irregular distribution of the antibiotic on the surface. However, confocal microscopy images revealed the formation of a uniform polymer layer. The thickness of the oxide and polymer layers was similar, between 6-9 μm. PSBA is an easy, hydrolysable polymer. After the polymer with amoxicillin was immersed in phosphate buffered solution (PBS) solution for 1 h, more than 53% of hydrolysis products were detected by 1H NMR spectroscopy. After 9 days of polymer immersion, the hydrolysis product content was more than 67%. Drug release was analyzed using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). After 1 h of implant immersion in PBS an average of 6.0 μg/mL of amoxicillin was released. Importantly, the released concentration of amoxicillin was enough to inhibit S. aureus (ATCC 25923) and S. epidermidis (ATCC 12228) growth and decrease their adhesion to the implant surface. This paper presents the cytocompatibility results of PSBA, amoxicillin, and extracts collected from the implants exposed to mouse fibroblast L929 and osteoblast-like MG-63 cells. PSBA concentrations up to 1% did not significantly affect cell viability. Amoxicillin concentrations up to 150 μl/mL were cytocompatible with both cells line. Cell viability was greater than 70% for both cell lines after 24 h of treatment with extracts from modified implants that were immersed in PBS for 72 h prior to viability experiments. This work presents a simple method to obtain a hybrid, bacteriostatic and biocompatible layer on long-term implant surfaces. These techniques may find application in the surface treatment of various Ti implants with a variety of shapes and sizes. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.
