Experimental investigation for the estimation of the intensity of solar irradiance on oblique surfaces by means of various models

In the literature several models have been derived by different authors in order to predict the solar irradiance intensity over inclined surfaces, however for the most models accuracy at various inclinations have not been verified. The study evaluated the estimation of solar irradiance at different tilt angles by means of different models based on the experimental measurements. For this purpose, two groups of models (isotropic and anisotropic) were carried out: the first group of models was used for estimating the diffuse solar irradiance component, and the second group was used for estimating the global solar irradiance. Five models have been selected and implemented for the estimation of the diffuse solar irradiance component, and five models have been selected for the estimation of global solar irradiance. The results of the analysis were compared with local experimental measurements for diffuse radiation and global irradiance. There are three tilt angles (0°, 30°, 60°) and a two-axis tracking system has been determent for comparison experiments with the model estimated results. The results showed all the selected models generated an error percentage in both the diffuse and global irradiance investigations. © 2022 Walter de Gruyter GmbH, Berlin/Boston.

Magnetic nanoparticles can be embedded in electrospun nanofibers and other polymeric matrices to prepare magnetic composites with defined magnetic and mechanical properties. Metal-oxide nanoparticles, such as magnetite or nickel-ferrite, are of special interest since they do not need a coating to avoid oxidation. Like other nanoparticles, these metal-oxide nanoparticles tend to form agglomerations, in this way modifying the magnetic properties of the composites. After studying this effect for the magnetic elements Co, Fe, Ni as well as permalloy (Py) in a previous study, defining a new method to quantify the nanoparticle distribution in a polymer, here we concentrate on the influence of agglomerations on the magnetic properties of metal-oxide nanoparticles with different diameters in non-magnetic matrices. © 2022

Factorial cumulants from short-range correlations and global baryon number conservation

We calculate the baryon factorial cumulants assuming arbitrary short-range correlations and the global baryon number conservation. The general factorial cumulant generating function is derived. Various relations between factorial cumulants subjected to baryon number conservation and the factorial cumulants without this constraint are presented. We observe that for nth factorial cumulant the short-range correlations of more than n particles are suppressed with increasing number of particles. The recently published [V. Vovchenko et al., Phys. Lett. B 811, 135868 (2020)] relations between the cumulants in a finite acceptance with global baryon conservation and the grand-canonical susceptibilities are reproduced.

This short paper focuses on the coverage of eventive entries of some well-known lexical semantic resources when applied to random running texts taken from the internet. In order to get the widest coverage, only verbs have been chosen for the comparison, to get as many resources as possible (even though some of the resources cover other parts of speech as well). While coverage gaps are often reported for manually created lexicons (which is the case of most semantically-oriented lexical ones), it was our aim to quantify these gaps, cross-lingually, on a new purely textual resource set produced by the HPLT Project from crawled internet data. Several English, German, Spanish and Czech lexical semantic resources have been selected for this experiment. We also describe the challenges related to the fact that these resources are (to a varying extent) semantically oriented, meaning that the texts have to be preprocessed to obtain lemmas (base forms) and some types of MWEs before the coverage can be reasonably evaluated, and thus the results are necessarily only approximate. The coverage of these resources, with some exclusions as described in the paper, range from 41.00% to 97.33%, confirming the need to expand at least some (even well-known) resources to cover the prevailing source of today's textual resources with regard to lexical units describing events or states (or possibly other eventive mentions). © 2024 ELRA Language Resource Association: CC BY-NC 4.0.

The paper presents the rotated 3D-printed dielectric lens assembly with an ultra-wideband (UWB) antenna for use in the beam-steering applications. The focus is on achieving beam steering by combining the rotated 3D-printed dielectric lens assembly with a hemispherical lens and UWB antenna. The UWB antenna is fabricated on an FR-4 substrate, while the hemispherical lens and the rotated 3D-printed lens assembly are made from Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS). To enable the hemispherical lens to rotate to the specified angle, a set of rotatable 3D-printed lenses was etched to determine five angles: -60degrees, -30degrees, 0degrees, 30degrees, and 60degrees. Both simulation and measurement results indicate that at a beginning frequency of 3.5 GHz, the beam cannot be steered when using the UWB antenna with the 3D-printed ABS lens rotated hemispherical lens assembly. However, at middle and high frequencies of 7.0 GHz and 10.0 GHz, respectively, the beam can be steered according to the direction of rotation of the hemispherical lens. © 2024 IEEE.

We consider a graph coloring algorithm that processes vertices in order taken uniformly at random and assigns colors to them using First-Fit strategy. We show that this algorithm uses, in expectation, at most (1 + o(1)) · ln n / ln ln n different colors to color any forest with n vertices. In this study, the superconducting properties of NaSn3 - an intermetallic compound with an AuCu3-type crystal structure and space group Pm3m (221), where Na atoms occupy the corners and Sn atoms are in face-centered positions - were investigated. The critical temperature of superconductivity (TC) in NaSn3 is found to be 7.038 K. The electron-phonon coupling constant has been calculated to assess its role in superconductivity, with the aim of understanding the mechanisms that enable NaSn3 to reach a relatively high TC. The analysis includes the calculation of the superconducting order parameter, the wave function renormalization factor for the first Matsubara frequency as a function of temperature, and the specific heat in both the superconducting and normal states. The results provide insight into the electron-phonon interaction and its contribution to the superconducting state in NaSn3, offering a detailed perspective on its potential for higher-temperature superconductivity. © 2025 Polska Akademia Nauk. This research addresses the escalating threats to industrial control systems by introducing a novel approach that combines deep learning for feature selection with a robust ensemble-based classification technique to enhance anomaly detection. Our method utilizes a tailored autoencoder architecture to efficiently select features, followed by a Random Forest classifier to ensure reliable and generalizable detection of anomalies. Evaluated on the HAI Security Dataset, the proposed approach demonstrates exceptional performance, with significant improvements in detecting anomalous activities in ICS. The results highlight the method’s potential to enhance ICS security by providing a scalable and adaptable framework that evolves with emerging threats. This study not only advances cybersecurity methodologies for industrial systems but also lays the groundwork for future research, emphasizing the need for innovative and effective security solutions in the face of evolving cyber challenges. © Bharati Vidyapeeth's Institute of computer Applications and Management 2024.

The Swanepoel method is a widely used optical technique for characterizing thin films through normal-incidence transmission measurements. A critical step in this approach involves extracting the upper and lower envelopes of the measured oscillatory spectrum. By analyzing the transmission spectrum and its corresponding envelopes, the Swanepoel procedure enables precise determination of the film refractive index and extinction coefficient. However, even minor inaccuracies in envelope construction can propagate significant errors into the final characterization results. To address this challenge, we present what we believe to be a novel physics-informed optimization algorithm for envelope detection. Our mathematical model reformulates the envelope detection problem as a global optimization task that enforces the physical properties of the Swanepoel envelopes. Extensive validation on fifty randomly generated transmission spectra demonstrates unprecedented accuracy: the method achieves root-mean-square errors (RMSE) below 0.10% for the upper envelope and 0.06% for the lower envelope (more than doubling the accuracy of current state-of-the-art approaches). Furthermore, the proposed model has been assessed with two experimental transmission spectra, demonstrating its robustness and accuracy with real noisy data. We have developed an open-source Python software package (see text below). This software includes not only our innovative envelope construction algorithm but also additional envelope drawing algorithms for comparison and an efficient implementation of the Swanepoel method, enabling complete optical characterization of thin films. © 2025 Optica Publishing Group under the terms of the Optica Open Access Publishing Agreement.

Visualizing a graph G in the plane nicely, for example, without crossings, is unfortunately not always possible. To address this problem, Masařík and Hliněný [GD 2023] recently asked for each edge of G to be drawn without crossings while allowing multiple different drawings of G. More formally, a collection D of drawings of G is uncrossed if, for each edge e of G, there is a drawing in D such that e is uncrossed. The uncrossed number unc(G) of G is then the minimum number of drawings in some uncrossed collection of G. No exact values of the uncrossed numbers have been determined yet, not even for simple graph classes. In this paper, we provide the exact values for uncrossed numbers of complete and complete bipartite graphs, partly confirming and partly refuting a conjecture posed by Hliněný and Masařík [GD 2023]. We also present a strong general lower bound on unc(G) in terms of the number of vertices and edges of G. Moreover, we prove NP-hardness of the related problem of determining the edge crossing number of a graph G, which is the smallest number of edges of G taken over all drawings of G that participate in a crossing.
