We study the problem of accessibility in a set of classical and quantum channels admitting a group structure. Group properties of the set of channels, and the structure of the closure of the analyzed group G plays a pivotal role in this regard. The set of all convex combinations of the group elements contains a subset of channels that are accessible by a dynamical semigroup. We demonstrate that accessible channels are determined by probability vectors of weights of a convex combination of the group elements, which depend neither on the dimension of the space on which the channels act, nor on the specific representation of the group. Investigating geometric properties of the set A of accessible maps we show that this set is non-convex, but it enjoys the star-shape property with respect to the uniform mixture of all elements of the group. The persistent attempts are undertaken to show existence and investigate the special pairs of Extensive Air Showers (EAS) that can be suspected in common origin in the near space, i.e. to observe some consequence of existence of Cosmic Ray Ensemble (CRE). The remote cosmic ray stations observing EAS events are useful for this investigation. Such stations are operating within the GELATICA net (GEorgian Large-area Angle and TIme Coincidence Array) and are planed within the CREDO Collaboration (Cosmic Ray Extremely Distributed Observatory) as the CREDO-Maze project. Quantum simulations of the Bose-Hubbard model (BHM) at commensurate filling can follow spreading of correlations after a sudden quench for times long enough to estimate their propagation velocities. In this work we perform tensor network simulation of the quantum Kibble-Zurek (KZ) ramp from the Mott towards the superfluid phase in the square lattice BHM and demonstrate that even relatively short ramp/quench times allow one to test the power laws predicted by the KZ mechanism (KZM). They can be verified for the correlation length and the excitation energy but the most reliable test is based on the KZM scaling hypothesis for the single particle correlation function: scaled correlation functions for different quench times evaluated at the same scaled time collapse to the same scaling function of the scaled distance. The Fermilab Accelerator science and technology facility is currently in operation with its linac based on TESLA-type superconducting rf cavities. Using a 3-MHz micropulse repetition rate with a long macropulse composed of up to 3000 micropulses, and with beam energies demonstrated at 300 MeV and projected to reach 800 MeV with two additional cryomodules, the feasibilities for a vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) and an extreme ultraviolet (EUV) free-electron laser oscillator (FELO) with the two energies are evaluated. We have used both the ginger code with an oscillator module and the minerva/opc code to assess FELO saturation prospects at 120 nm with a 5.0-cm-period undulator of 4.5-m length and the minerva/opc code to assess the FELO at 13.4 nm with adjusted parameters. The simulation results support saturation at both of these wavelengths which are much shorter than the demonstrated shortest wavelength record of 168.6 nm from a storage-ring-based FELO. This indicates superconducting rf linac-driven FELOs can be extended into this VUV-EUV wavelength regime previously only reached with single-pass FEL configurations. In addition, emittance-dilution effects due to wakefields in the cavities and the resulting submacropulse centroid slew effects on FELO performance are addressed using minerva/opc simulations for the first time.

An efficient compositional framework is developed for simulation of CO2 storage in saline aquifers during a full-cycle injection, migration and post-migration processes. Essential trapping mechanisms, including structural, dissolution, and residual trapping, which operate at different time scales are accurately captured in the presented unified framework. In particular, a parameterization method is proposed to efficiently describe the relevant physical processes. The proposed framework is validated by comparing the dynamics of gravity-induced convective transport with that reported in the literature. Results show good agreement for both the characteristics of descending fingers and the associated dissolution rate. The developed simulator is then applied to study the FluidFlower benchmark model. An experimental setup with heterogeneous geological layers is discretized into a two-dimensional computational domain where numerical simulation is performed. Impacts of hysteresis and the diffusion of CO2 in liquid phase on the migration and trapping of CO2 plume are investigated. Inclusion of the hysteresis effect does not affect plume migration in this benchmark model, whereas diffusion plays an important role in promoting convective mixing. This work casts a promising approach to predict the migration of the CO2 plume, and to assess the amount of trapping from different mechanisms for long-term CO2 storage. © 2023, CC BY-NC-ND.

Parameter identification of Li-ion battery models is important for efficiently charge and discharge the most widely used energy storage devices. In this work, we propose a simplified battery model with a parameter identification method for time-domain charging and discharging. Staircase PotentioElectrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy technique (SPEIS) is chosen to characterize the batteries during charging and discharging cycles at different voltage steps values. Marine Predator Algorithm (MPA) is used to identify the proposed model parameters on two commercial Li-ion coin-shaped batteries. The proposed model shows very good matching with the experiments with absolute current error less than 10 4. Hence, the proposed model can be used for real-time applications to predict the battery's behavior under different operating conditions. © 2021 IEEE.

Integer factorization is a significant problem, with implications for the security of widely-used cryptographic schemes. No efficient classical algorithm for polynomial-time integer factorization has been found despite extensive research. Although Peter Shor’s breakthrough quantum algorithm offers a viable solution, current limitations of noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) computers hinder its practical implementation. To address this, researchers have explored alternative methods for factorization suitable for NISQ devices. One such method is the Quantum Approximate Optimization Algorithm, which treats factoring as an optimization problem defined over binary bits, resulting in various problematic aspects. In this paper, we explore the Func-QAOA approach for factorization, which premises overcoming some of the limitations of previous approaches and allows the incorporation of more advanced factorization techniques. After reviewing the most promising quantum implementations for integer arithmetics, we present a few illustrative examples to demonstrate the efficacy of the Func-QAOA approach and discuss methods to reduce the search space to speed up the optimization process.
