A new model of an evolution of ranks of employees due to staff turnover in an organization is designed. If the rank is determined only by the performance, the rank shift of incumbents due to the turnover is proportional to the initial rank: the status of high staff is reduced only slightly. This effect that has been observed in the literature. However, if the status also depends on some other variable, the positions of high staff may be greatly deteriorated. In that case, the effect depends nonlinearly on the time τ between subsequent replacements of staff. © 2022, CC BY-NC-ND.

This study explores the remarkable properties of the Box-Ball Structure (BBS) within the 1GHz to 50GHz frequency range. The BBS structure demonstrates consistent bandpass frequencies with a periodic response and maintains a uniform 2.058GHz bandwidth at S11 = -6dB. Unlike metal-based structures, where changing C and L values can lead to frequency-dependent responses, the dielectric BBS structure exhibits stability. Its dielectric properties, including epsilon, mu, and refractive index (n), remain largely unaffected by frequency variations. Furthermore, the BBS structure is found to induce capacitance (C), as per the principles of virtual circuit theory, making it suitable for band-pass filter applications. The liquid state of epoxy resin allows for versatile structural designs, such as a hollow cylinder for omnidirectional antenna signal filtration. This research introduces the BBS as a dielectric resonator with unique properties and potential applications in various industries, particularly in the mobile phone sector. © 2024 IEEE.

This research presents a printed ultrawideband monopole antenna designed with notches at the 3.5 GHz and 5.5 GHz frequency bands. The antenna incorporates a 50-Ω Coplanar Waveguide (CPW) feed, featuring a gradual central line and ground plane. To notch unwanted frequencies at 3.5 GHz and 5.5 GHz, an inverted triangle slot and an inverted U-shaped slot are integrated into the monopole patch. Operating across a frequency range of 2.62-12 GHz, the proposed antenna supports the UWB system while excluding the 3.22-3.62 GHz and 5.14-5.62 GHz bands. The lengths of the inverted triangle and U-shaped slots correspond to quarter and half wavelengths at 3.5 GHz and 5.5 GHz, respectively. The prototype has been fully developed and tested, showing its effectiveness in reducing Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) in WLAN/WiMAX bands. © 2024 IEEE.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is one of the world's leading fresh date producers. Identifying damaged date palm trees on the farm is important for saving water and stopping the spread of pest which has caused the damage. In this paper, we aim to evaluate the performance of IoT-based thermal image camera input for the automatic detection of damaged trees in a Date Tree farm. The thermal images will be obtained by an IoTbased thermal camera attached to UAV. Then the temperature histogram vector will be generated which will be fed to the SVM for identification of the damaged tree. The system will raise the alarm along with the coordinates of the damaged tree for the farmer to proactively deal with the issue. The initial results of the tested scenario are encouraging for its detailed implementation in the future. © 2023 IEEE.

This study outlines the development and refinement of an innovative base station antenna for contemporary wireless communication systems, which operates within the frequency range of 1.9 to 4.9 GHz. The antenna is made of copper and has a radiating patch thickness of 0.2 mm. The ground patch measures 38×38 mm and the total height of the antenna is 16 mm. The performance of the system relies on four reflecting walls that have been carefully carved to reduce out-of-band radiations and minimize interference. The antenna attains a peak gain of 6 dBi throughout the operational range, while keeping the |S11| parameters below -10 dBi, ensuring effective signal transmission. The process of optimization involves the utilization of evolutionary computers, more specifically a Genetic Algorithm, to meticulously adjust the design parameters. This approach guarantees that the antenna fulfills the demanding criteria of high gain and wide bandwidth, offering a strong and reliable solution for modern communication requirements. © 2024 IEEE.

In the field of mobile robotics, point clouds are widely used as an environment representation merged into a map. However, point cloud registration can be challenging when rapid movement occurs. In indoor environments, planelike features such as walls, floors, and ceilings are dominant and can be used to aid cloud merging. These features need to be extracted from point clouds. In this paper, we propose an open-source Hough transform implementation in Python. We have adapted this method, conventionally used for detecting shapes in images, to be applied to 3D point clouds and to detect planar features. To illustrate the point-cloud Hough transform algorithm, we generated synthetic point clouds. Additionally, we collected LiDAR measurements in the corridor. Processing the experimental data proved the algorithm’s ability to handle noise and measurement uncertainties. The study included an evaluation of the Hough transform by making a comparison to the ICP method. The Hough Transform provided more accurate results of corridor width measured on a merged point cloud by 0.06 m.

This study investigates the potential of hybrid metaheuristic algorithms to enhance the training of Probabilistic Neural Networks (PNNs) by leveraging the complementary strengths of multiple optimisation strategies. Traditional learning methods, such as gradient-based approaches, often struggle to optimise high-dimensional and uncertain environments, while single-method metaheuristics may fail to exploit the solution space fully. To address these challenges, we propose the constrained Hybrid Metaheuristic (cHM) algorithm, a novel approach that combines multiple population-based optimisation techniques into a unified framework. The proposed procedure operates in two phases: an initial probing phase evaluates multiple metaheuristics to identify the best-performing one based on the error rate, followed by a fitting phase where the selected metaheuristic refines the PNN to achieve optimal smoothing parameters. This iterative process ensures efficient exploration and convergence, enhancing the network’s generalisation and classification accuracy. cHM integrates several popular metaheuristics, such as BAT, Simulated Annealing, Flower Pollination Algorithm, Bacterial Foraging Optimization, and Particle Swarm Optimisation as internal optimisers. To evaluate cHM performance, experiments were conducted on 16 datasets with varying characteristics, including binary and multiclass classification tasks, balanced and imbalanced class distributions, and diverse feature dimensions. The results demonstrate that cHM effectively combines the strengths of individual metaheuristics, leading to faster convergence and more robust learning. By optimising the smoothing parameters of PNNs, the proposed method enhances classification performance across diverse datasets, proving its application flexibility and efficiency. © 2025, CC BY-NC-ND.

Research presents a concept of a modular automated aquaponic system. The scope of the work included designing a modular, cost-effective aquaponic system for closed environments, enabling the cultivation of various types of plants in areas where soil-based growth is not feasible. The process began with the ideation phase, brainstorming, and conceptualization, during which the system requirements were established. During the development phase, the necessary environmental parameters that the system must provide for the cultivation of selected plant species were defined, and suitable containers for promoting proper root system growth and development were initiated. Simultaneously, an analysis of sensors available on the market was conducted, considering their capability to monitor environmental parameters directly affecting the growth and development of cultivated plants. Subsequently, CAD modelling was performed according to the initial requirements. Finally, a concept and automation design were developed. Visual inspection of dual-energy X-ray radiographic images of cabin baggage requires high performance, but is hindered by various challenges such as low target prevalence, variability in target visibility, possible presence of multiple targets, and security personnel fatigue and inattention. Artificial intelligence (AI) techniques, particularly deep convolutional neural networks (CNNs), have shown promise in improving the automatic detection of explosives, even with low-resolution radiographic images, especially in high baggage throughput scenarios. In this paper, we focus on the detection of detonators as components of improvised explosive devices. The proposed approach involves comparing two experiments implemented in a deep CNN architecture using TensorFlow and Keras libraries. In the first experiment, raw dual-energy radiographic images without any enhancement were used. The second experiment includes three methods for contrast enhancement and feature extraction: the Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization (CLAHE) method, the wavelet transform-based method, and the mixed CLAHE RGB-Wavelet method. In the latter two methods, Haar, Db2, Coif2, and Sym2 mother wavelet functions at two levels (HH and HL) were employed. The analysis of results focuses on a comparative study of performance measures such as accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 score. It was found that the preprocessing methods used in experiment 2, for the two evaluated classes (detonator and no detonator), achieved higher accuracy compared to the raw radiographic images used in experiment 1 (98.08%). The highest accuracies in experiment 2, with a value of 100%, were obtained with the CLAHE method (green channel in grayscale, blue channel in grayscale, and RGB channels) and the wavelet transform method with Haar mother wavelet at two levels HL © 2024 IEEE.

We calculate analytically the Rényi entropy for the zeta-urn model with a Gibbs measure definition of the microstate probabilities. This allows us to obtain the singularities in the Rényi entropy from those of the thermodynamic potential, which is directly related to the free-energy density of the model. We enumerate the various possible behaviors of the Rényi entropy and its singularities, which depend on both the value of the power law in the zeta urn and the order of the Rényi entropy under consideration.
