Time-to-Digital Converters (TDCs) play a critical role in numerous high-precision applications across the fields of nuclear science, biomedical engineering, and digital communication systems, including Time-of-Flight (ToF) ranging, Positron Emission Tomography (PET), and All-Digital Phase-Locked Loops (ADPLLs). The demand for flexible architectures providing higher timing precision for an increased number of channels has become a focal point due to the limitations of traditional single-channel TDCs which suffer from low bitrate and resolution. This paper presents the design, implementation and commissioning of a 64-channel TDC using the latest Xilinx Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) technology, aimed at overcoming these challenges and significantly enhancing measurement capabilities. The design is based on a combination of Tapped Delay Line (TDL) and Coarse Counter techniques to optimize both precision and dynamic range. The implementation achieved a remarkable temporal resolution of 18 picoseconds in an exemplary multi-stop implementation providing a sequence of nine time stamps in each cycle. This paper details the system architecture, the implementation challenges and the performance evaluation.

In the case of standalone houses, ensuring a continuous and regulated power supply from renewable sources is crucial. To address their unpredictable nature, an environmentally conscious hybrid renewable energy system combining photovoltaic panels, a battery, and a Diesel generator is considered. A software application simulates the power flow in a standalone house with common AC loads, analysing summer and winter scenarios over 24 hours. The strategy employed provides an optimal energy management by using the Diesel generator only during peak demand when PV is available and to cover loads and maintain battery life when PV is not in operation. The simulation results provide valuable insights for designing such hybrid energy systems and for enhancing system responsiveness to dynamic energy demands.

The most abundantly available renewable energy source on the earth is solar energy. Conventionally, this energy is converted into electric energy with the help of photovoltaic cells. The efficiency of this commercially available technology is around 5-25%. This article deals with the investigation of an innovative energy harvesting system that uses a Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) to utilize solar heat for generating electric power. SMA shows significant deflection when heated and this characteristic is used to develop a SMA based heat engine. This work proposes a heat engine where a SMA wire is used to convert solar radiation to perform mechanical work. Further, the mechanical work is used to drive a rotary electric generator to produce electric energy. The SMA used for this purpose is Nitinol wire, which absorbs heat from the solar radiation and transforms the same initially to mechanical motion, which later is used to produce electric power. Initially, the SMA element is curved in shape, and it shows a significant deflection when it receives the heat from solar radiation. This deflection of the SMA element is used to operate a rotary electric generator to produce electric energy. The theoretical calculations for balance of the energy flow from incident solar radiations to output electric energy is discussed. The developed prototype shows around 4.5% efficiency with an average power of 2.4 mW.

We discuss the phase transition and critical exponents in the random allocation model (urn model) for different statistical ensembles. We provide a unified presentation of the statistical properties of the model in the thermodynamic limit, uncover relationships between the thermodynamic potentials, and fill some lacunae in previous results on the singularities of these potentials at the critical point and behavior in the thermodynamic limit.
