Star-forming galaxies (SFGs) and starburst galaxies (SBGs) are extragalactic sources which could produce high-energy neutrinos. In principle, they could play a rather important role for explaining at least a sizeable part of IceCube’s observations of astophysical neutrino. Using a recent theoretical model which implemented a blending of spectral indeces, we present the KM3NeT/ARCA sensitivities for such a diffuse flux from the startburst galaxies. In particular, we provide the 5-year differential sensitivity for the two building blocks of ARCA. We make use only of the track-like events in the range of 100 GeV - 10 PeV differentiate in 11 bins of energy. We show how the upcoming neutrino telescope could observe the diffuse SFG and SBG within 5 years of data taking. We found the minimum of the sensitivity at around 100 TeV, which is also the energy where the SBG contribution is expected to peak. This would not only constrain the multi-component fit of the observed astrophysical neutrino flux at that energy (100 TeV), but would also provide us a direct link between the star-forming activity in the reservoir environments and the hadronic emissions. © Copyright owned by the author(s).

Effect of annealing treatment on sputtered copper oxide thin film

Copper oxide thin films were prepared on silicon wafer and glass slide substrate by dc reactive magnetron sputtering using a copper target without substrate heating. As-deposited CuO thin films were then annealed at various the temperatures in air ambient. The effects of annealing treatment on the physical morphology, optical property of the prepared samples were studied by glancing incident X-ray diffraction (GIXRD), field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), UV-Vis-NIR spectrophotometer. The results shown that the crystallinity of the CuO thin films was significantly improved as an annealing temperature increased. Additionally, the sheet resistance measurements were characterized on as-deposited and annealed samples in order to discuss the electrical properties.

The continued development of ICT technologies has led to new ways of information communication. As is well known, the success of any new training or communication technology incorporates disseminating information, timeliness and efficiency and often incorporates simulation and virtual reality technologies. This paper presents the results of a quantitative study showing that simulation-based training strategies are more effective than traditional methods. The current case is for applying didactic teaching methodologies for learning ICT concepts for complex systems. The paper also compares the results of this study with previous studies and recommends strategies for using virtual reality elements to streamline learning process of engineering students.

KM3NeT/ORCA is an underwater neutrino telescope under construction in the Mediterranean Sea. Its primary scientific goal is to measure the atmospheric neutrino oscillation parameters and to determine the neutrino mass ordering. ORCA can constrain the oscillation parameters Δm ²₃₁ and θ ₂₃ by reconstructing the arrival direction and energy of multi-GeV neutrinos crossing the Earth. Searches for deviations from the Standard Model of particle physics in the forward scattering of neutrinos inside Earth matter, produced by Non-Standard Interactions, can be conducted by investigating distortions of the standard oscillation pattern of neutrinos of all flavours. This work reports on the results of the search for non-standard neutrino interactions using the first six detection units of ORCA and 433 kton-years of exposure. No significant deviation from standard interactions was found in a sample of 5828 events reconstructed in the 1 GeV-1 TeV energy range. The flavour structure of the non-standard coupling was constrained at 90% confidence level to be |ϵ_μτ | ≤ 5.4 × 10^-3, |ϵ_eτ | ≤ 7.4 × 10^-2, |ϵ_eμ | ≤ 5.6 × 10^-2 and -0.015 ≤ ϵ_ττ - ϵ_μμ ≤ 0.017. The results are comparable to the current most stringent limits placed on the parameters by other experiments. © 2025 The Author(s)

Jet substructure has provided new opportunities for searches and measurements at the LHC, and has seen continuous development since the optimization of the large-radius jet definition used by ATLAS was performed during Run 1. A range of new inputs to jet reconstruction, pile-up mitigation techniques and jet grooming algorithms motivate an optimisation of large-radius jet reconstruction for ATLAS. In this paper, this optimisation procedure is presented, and the performance of a wide range of large-radius jet definitions is compared. The relative performance of these jet definitions is assessed using metrics such as their pileup stability, ability to identify hadronically decaying W bosons and top quarks with large transverse momenta. A new type of jet input object, called a 'unified flow object' is introduced which combines calorimeter- and inner-detector-based signals in order to achieve optimal performance across a wide kinematic range. Large-radius jet definitions are identified which significantly improve on the current ATLAS baseline definition, and their modelling is studied using pp collisions recorded by the ATLAS detector at p s = 13 TeV during 2017. © 2020, CC BY.

Parameterized complexity of fair vertex evaluation problems

A prototypical graph problem is centered around a graph-Theoretic property for a set of vertices and a solution to it is a set of vertices for which the desired property holds. The task is to decide whether, in the given graph, there exists a solution of a certain quality, where we use size as a quality measure. In this work, we are changing the measure to the fair measure [Lin: Fair edge deletion problems. IEEE Trans. Comput. 89]. The measure is k if the number of solution neighbors does not exceed k for any vertex in the graph. One possible way to study graph problems is by defining the property in a certain logic. For a given objective an evaluation problem is to find a set (of vertices) that simultaneously minimizes the assumed measure and satisfies an appropriate formula. In the presented paper we show that there is an FPT algorithm for the MSO Fair Vertex Evaluation problem for formulas with one free variable parameterized by the twin cover number of the input graph. Here, the free variable corresponds to the solution sought. One may define an extended variant of MSO Fair Vertex Evaluation for formulas with free variables;here we measure a maximum number of neighbors in each of the sets. However, such variant is W[1]-hard for parameter even on graphs with twin cover one. Furthermore, we study the Fair Vertex Cover (Fair VC) problem. Fair VC is among the simplest problems with respect to the demanded property (i.e., the rest forms an edgeless graph). On the negative side, Fair VC is W[1]-hard when parameterized by both treedepth and feedback vertex set of the input graph. Indirect dark matter detection methods are used to observe the products of dark matter annihilations or decays originating from astrophysical objects where large amounts of dark matter are thought to accumulate. With neutrino telescopes, an excess of neutrinos is searched for in nearby dark matter reservoirs, such as the Sun and the Galactic Centre, which could potentially produce a sizeable flux of Standard Model particles. The KM3NeT infrastructure, currently under construction, comprises the ARCA and ORCA undersea Čerenkov neutrino detectors located at two different sites in the Mediterranean Sea, offshore of Italy and France, respectively. The two detector configurations are optimised for the detection of neutrinos of different energies, enabling the search for dark matter particles with masses ranging from a few GeV/c² to hundreds of TeV/c². In this work, searches for dark matter annihilations in the Galactic Centre and the Sun with data samples taken with the first configurations of both detectors are presented. No significant excess over the expected background was found in either of the two analyses. Limits on the velocity-averaged self-annihilation cross section of dark matter particles are computed for five different primary annihilation channels in the Galactic Centre. For the Sun, limits on the spin-dependent and spin-independent scattering cross sections of dark matter with nucleons are given for three annihilation channels. © 2025 The Author(s)

Nowadays, the space weather issues are of a great importance, especially, for all satellites operators or ground-based electrical and electronic systems caused by geomagnetic storms. In spite of many studies on the changeable Sun and the fluctuations in the interplanetary space triggered by solar-driven disturbances, the question, which of the components of geomagnetic storms influence the strongest the electrical and electronic systems is still open. Here, we consider the data of electrical grids breakdowns having unidentified reasons, as well as failures connected to the aging of the infrastructure elements and breakdowns of electronic devices, which occurred during the periods of an increased geomagnetic activity. Mathematical and statistical methods, among them neural net clustering, demonstrate that there exist connections between the groups of the coefficients characterizing the state of Earths vicinity during magnetic storms and the number of failures in electrical network.
