We present a Spitzer/IRAC survey of H-faint (H160 & 26.4, 2 (effectively ∼221 arcmin2 in the source plane), we have securely discovered 53 sources in the IRAC Channel-2 band (CH2, 4.5 µm;median CH2=22.46±0.11 AB mag) that lack robust HST/WFC3-IR F160W counterparts. The most remarkable source in our sample, namely ES-009 in the field of Abell 2813, is the brightest H-faint galaxy at 4.5 µm known so far (CH2 = 20.48 ± 0.03 AB mag). We show that the H-faint sources in our sample are massive (median Mstar = 1010.3±0.3 M☉), star-forming (median star formation rate = 100+60-40 M☉ yr-1) and dust-obscured (AV = 2.6 ±0.3) galaxies around a median photometric redshift of z = 3.9±0.4. The stellar continua of 14 H-faint galaxies can be resolved in the CH2 band, suggesting a median circularized effective radius (Re,circ;lensing corrected) of 1.9 ± 0.2 kpc and e,circ ∼ 1 kpc). These H-faint galaxies make up 16+13-7 % of the galaxies in the stellar mass range of 1010 -1011.2 M☉ at z = 3 ∼ 5, contributing to 8+8-4% of the cosmic star formation rate density in this epoch and likely tracing the early phase of massive galaxy formation. © 2021, CC BY.

The Cherenkov Telescope Array and the KM3NeT neutrino telescopes are major upcoming facilities in the fields of γ-ray and neutrino astronomy, respectively. Possible simultaneous production of γ rays and neutrinos in astrophysical accelerators of cosmic-ray nuclei motivates a combination of their data. We assess the potential of a combined analysis of CTA and KM3NeT data to determine the contribution of hadronic emission processes in known Galactic γ-ray emitters, comparing this result to the cases of two separate analyses. In doing so, we demonstrate the capability of GAMMAPY, an open-source software package for the analysis of γ-ray data, to also process data from neutrino telescopes. For a selection of prototypical γ-ray sources within our Galaxy, we obtain models for primary proton and electron spectra in the hadronic and leptonic emission scenario, respectively, by fitting published γ-ray spectra. Using these models and instrument response functions for both detectors, we employ the GAMMAPY package to generate pseudo data sets, where we assume 200 hours of CTA observations and 10 years of KM3NeT detector operation. We then apply a three-dimensional binned likelihood analysis to these data sets, separately for each instrument and jointly for both. We find that the largest benefit of the combined analysis lies in the possibility of a consistent modelling of the γ-ray and neutrino emission. Assuming a purely leptonic scenario as input, we obtain, for the most favourable source, an average expected 68% credible interval that constrains the contribution of hadronic processes to the observed γ-ray emission to below 15%. © 2023, CC BY.

This paper deals with case-based reasoning (CBR) which is adapted in the computer Aided Design (CAD) system. The specialized CAD tools of the system allow the designer to visualize general ideas about projects in the form of design drawings and automatically transform them into graph data structures. The system’s library provides source cases representing previously created solutions. Designer’s requirements are represented by graph patterns and the case library is automatically searched for cases which fit these patterns. Target cases result from the cooperation among the human designer and intelligent software agents. The retrieved cases are evaluated on the basis of specific design knowledge the agents are equipped with. A New Quantum Watermarking Based on Quantum Wavelet Transforms

Quantum watermarking is a technique to embed specific information, usually the owner's identification,into quantum cover data such for copyright protection purposes. In this paper, a new scheme for quantum watermarking based on quantum wavelet transforms is proposed which includes scrambling, embedding and extracting procedures. The invisibility and robustness performances of the proposed watermarking method is confirmed by simulation *** invisibility of the scheme is examined by the peak-signal-to-noise ratio(PSNR) and the histogram *** the robustness of the scheme is analyzed by the Bit Error Rate(BER) and the Correlation Two-Dimensional(Corr 2-D) calculation. The simulation results indicate that the proposed watermarking scheme indicate not only acceptable visual quality but also a good resistance against different types of attack.

Double quantum dots defined in bilayer graphene

Artificial molecular states of double quantum dots defined in bilayer graphene are studied with the atomistic tight-binding method and its low-energy continuum approximation. We indicate that the extended electron wave functions have opposite parities on sublattices of the layers and that the ground-state wave-function components change from bonding to antibonding with the interdot distance. In the weak-coupling limit, the one most relevant for quantum dots defined electrostatically, the signatures of the interdot coupling include, for the two-electron ground state, formation of states with symmetric or antisymmetric spatial wave functions split by the exchange energy. In the high-energy part of the spectrum the states with both electrons in the same dot are found with the splitting of energy levels corresponding to simultaneous tunneling of the electron pair from one dot to the other.

We propose an approach to study small limit cycle bifurcations on a center manifold in analytic or smooth systems depending on parameters. We then apply it to the investigation of limit cycle bifurcations in a model of calcium oscillations in the cilia of olfactory sensory neurons and show that it can have two limit cycles: a stable cycle appearing after a Bautin (generalized Hopf) bifurcation and an unstable cycle appearing after a subcritical Hopf bifurcation. The search for Cosmic-Ray Ensembles (CRE), groups of correlated cosmic rays that might be distributed over very large areas, even of the size of the planet, requires a globally spread and dense network of detectors, as proposed by the Cosmic-Ray Extremely Distributed Observatory (CREDO) Collaboration. This proposal motivates an effort towards exploring the potential of using even very much diversified detection technologies within one system, with detection units located even in hard-to-reach places, where, nevertheless, the sensors could work independently - without human intervention. For these reasons we have developed a dedicated communication solution enabling the connection of many different types of detectors, in a range of environments. The proposed data transmission system uses radio waves as an information carrier on the 169MHz frequency band in a contrast to the typical commercially used frequencies in a IoT systems (868MHz). The connectivity within the system is based on the star topology, which ensures the least energy consumption. The solution is now being prepared to being implemented using the prototype detection system based on the CosmicWatch open hardware design: a portable, pocket size, and economy particle detector using the scintillation technique. Recurrent Neural Networks for anomaly detection in the Post-Mortem time series of LHC superconducting magnets

This paper presents a model based on Deep Learning algorithms of LSTM and GRU for facilitating an anomaly detection in Large Hadron Collider superconducting magnets. We used high resolution data available in Post Mortem database to train a set of models and chose the best possible set of their hyper-parameters. Using Deep Learning approach allowed to examine a vast body of data and extract the fragments which require further experts examination and are regarded as anomalies. The presented method does not require tedious manual threshold setting and operator attention at the stage of the system setup. Instead, the automatic approach is proposed, which achieves according to our experiments accuracy of 99 %. This is reached for the largest dataset of 302 MB and the following architecture of the network: single layer LSTM, 128 cells, 20 epochs of training, look_back=16, look_ahead=128, grid=100 and optimizer Adam. Pauli blockade microscopy of quantum dots

We propose a spin-sensitive scanning probe microscopy experiment on double quantum dots in Pauli blockade conditions. Electric spin resonance is induced by an AC voltage applied to the scanning gate which induces lifting of the Pauli blockade of the current. The stationary Hamiltonian eigenstates are used as a basis for description of the spin dynamics with the AC potential of the probe. For the two-electron system we evaluate the transitions rates from triplet T+ state to singlet S or triplet T0 states, i.e. to conditions in which the Pauli blockade of the current is lifted. The rates of the spin-flip transitions are consistent with the transition matrix elements and strongly dependent on the tip position. Probing the spin densities and identification of the final transition state are discussed. Copyright © 2017, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The Belle II experiment at the Super Flavour Factory SuperKEKB in Tsukuba, Japan, has started regular operation with its final detector setup in spring 2019. The Belle II vertexing system consists of four layers of double sided silicon strips (SVD) and two layers of DEPFET pixel sensors (PXD). These inner most pixel layers are arranged at radii of 14 mm and 22 mm around the beam pipe. The sensors with pixel sizes down to 50 µm × 55 µm are thinned down to 75 µm thickness to minimize multiple scattering. They are most crucial for reconstructing the secondary decay vertices of short lived B and D mesons with a precision of better than 15 microns.
