Like electoral systems, decision-making methods are also vulnerable to manipulation by decision-makers. The ability to effectively defend against such threats can only come from thoroughly understanding the manipulation mechanisms. In the presented article, we show two algorithms that can be used to launch a manipulation attack. They allow for equating the weights of two selected alternatives in the pairwise comparison method and, consequently, choosing a leader. The theoretical considerations are accompanied by a Monte Carlo simulation showing the relationship between the size of the PC matrix, the degree of inconsistency, and the ease of manipulation. In this paper we systematically consider various ways of generating integrable and separable Hamiltonian systems in canonical and in non-canonical representations from algebraic curves on the plane. Understanding the physical properties of unconventional superconductors as well as of other correlated materials presents a formidable challenge. Their unusual evolution with doping, frequency, and temperature has frequently led to non-Fermi-liquid (non-FL) interpretations. Optical conductivity is a major challenge in this context. Here, the optical spectra of two archetypal cuprates, underdoped HgBa2CuO4+δ and optimally doped Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+δ, are interpreted based on the standard Fermi-liquid (FL) paradigm. At both dopings, perfect frequency-temperature FL scaling is found to be modified by the presence of a second, gapped electronic subsystem. This non-FL component emerges as a well-defined mid-infrared spectral feature after the FL contribution, determined independently by transport, is subtracted. Temperature, frequency, and doping evolution of the MIR feature identify a gapped rather than dissipative response. In contrast, the dissipative response is found to be relevant for pnictides and ruthenates. Such an unbiased FL/non-FL separation is extended across the cuprate phase diagram, capturing all the key features of the normal state and providing a natural explanation why the superfluid density is attenuated on the overdoped side. Thus, we obtain a unified interpretation of optical responses and transport measurements in all analyzed physical regimes and all analyzed compounds.

Spin-orbit torque induced magnetization dynamics and switching in a CoFeB/Ta/CoFeB system with mixed magnetic anisotropy

Spin-orbit torque (SOT) induced magnetization switching in CoFeB/Ta/CoFeB trilayer with two ferromagnetic CoFeB layers exhibiting in-plane and perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA), respectively, is investigated. Interlayer exchange coupling (IEC), measured using the ferromagnetic resonance technique is modified by varying thickness of the heavy metal Ta spacer (tTa). The evolution of the IEC with tTa leads to different orientations of the magnetic anisotropy axes of two CoFeB layers: for tTa>1.3nm, magnetization prefers antiferromagnetic alignment, whereas for tTa<1.3nm, ferromagnetic coupling is measured. The magnetization state of the CoFeB layer exhibiting PMA is controlled by the spin-polarized current originating from the Ta layer in micrometer sized Hall bars. The SOT induced critical current density with Ta spacer thickness is presented, showing an increase with decreasing tTa, which coincides with the CoFeB coercive field dependence. In a narrow range of tTa corresponding to the ferromagnetic IEC, the field-free SOT induced magnetization switching is achieved.

The present study covers an approach to neural architecture search (NAS) using Cartesian genetic programming (CGP) for the design and optimization of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs). In designing artificial neural networks, one crucial aspect of the innovative approach is suggesting a novel neural architecture. Currently used architectures have mostly been developed manually by human experts, which is a time-consuming and error-prone process. In this work, we use pure Genetic Programming Approach to design CNNs, which employs only one genetic operation, i.e., mutation. Detecting pattern in images plays a huge role in the field of computer vision. The article summarizes methods for detecting patterns by their properties, such as colours, shapes in images. And with video, the detection of patterns is also based on their movement. Human face recognition problem is also mentioned in the application of MTCNN network architecture and reconfiguring FaceNet to suit actual requirements. Test results are given and recommendations with data and program operating conditions are provided for the reference. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Recent years brought an increasing interest in the application of machine learning algorithms in e-commerce, omnichannel marketing, and the sales industry. It is not only to the algorithmic advances but also to data availability, representing transactions, users, and background product information. Finding products related in different ways, i.e., substitutes and complements is essential for users' recommendations at the vendor's site and for the vendor - to perform efficient assortment optimization. The paper introduces a novel method for finding products' substitutes and complements based on the graph embedding Cleora algorithm. We also provide its experimental evaluation with regards to the state-of-the-art Shopper algorithm, studying the relevance of recommendations with surveys from industry experts. It is concluded that the new approach presented here offers suitable choices of recommended products, requiring a minimal amount of additional information. The algorithm can be used in various enterprises, effectively identifying substitute and complementary product options. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

igh-pressure studies of well-defined catalysts, deposited on planar supports in ultra-high vacuum using physical methods, may bridge the gap between surface science and applied catalysis approaches in order to develop better catalysts for crucial reactions such as CO2 hydrogenation. However, the chemical reactors necessary for such investigations, typically involving catalyst quantities down to a few hundred nanograms, are lacking. We present the novel design and evaluation of a 50 µL rectangular microchannel reactor capable of testing small quantities of catalyst at pressures up to 40 bar and temperatures up to 240°C. To evaluate the microreactor performance, Pd0.25Zn0.75Ox nanoclusters soft-landed on SiO2-coated mica sheets using the cluster beam deposition technique, were tested for the reverse water-gas shift reaction through a series of kinetic experiments. Experimental results, combined with computational fluid dynamics and mass transport analysis, demonstrate that the proposed microreactor setup allows for testing minute quantities of catalysts with very high sensitivity at industrially relevant temperatures and pressures. Although not restricted to a particular catalyst preparation method, the setup is an excellent platform for conducting catalytic tests on composition-controlled, mass-selected, gas-phase nanoparticles deposited on planar substrates, facilitating the determination of reliable structure-activity relationships and enabling a more rational design of catalysts © 2024, The Authors. It has been a long-standing question whether cosmic rays promote the triggering of lightning and how cosmic-ray air showers interact with the electric field of thunderclouds. The strong electric field in the thunderclouds accelerates electrons to the relativistic regime, of which seed electrons are thought to be supplied from cosmic-ray air shower. Such relativistic electrons emit bremsstrahlung photons in gamma rays, which have been detected by on-ground measurements called gamma-ray glows. Low-altitude winter thunderstorm in Japan provides an ideal environment for observations of gamma-ray glows. We newly launched the citizen science "Thundercloud Project" to construct a multi-point radiation mapping campaign for glows from winter thunderstorms around Kanazawa, Japan. We developed a new handy radiation monitor and shipped about 60 detectors to citizen supporters. The radiation data are stored in the microSD cards in the detectors, and a part of them is remotely sent to the web server so that researchers and supporters can watch the real-time data. In addition, an automatic alert is sent to public Twitter from the server when a glow is detected. The purpose of this project is (1) to characterize the methodological condition of electron acceleration, (2) to investigate whether accelerated relativistic electrons can enhance the chance of the initiation of lightning discharges, and (3) to find a new way of the citizen science to join in the cutting edge science in the physics field. Here we report this growing citizen science project and examples of successful gamma-ray glow observations. Our first scientific result from this citizen science project was published in Tsurumi et al., GRL 2023 [1], where we reported lightning discharges started in or near the electron acceleration site of a gamma-ray glow. © Copyright owned by the author(s) under the terms of the Creative Commons.

Current-Induced Magnetization Switching of Exchange-Biased NiO Heterostructures Characterized by Spin-Orbit Torque

In this work, we study magnetization switching induced by spin-orbit torque in W (Pt)/Co/NiO heterostructures with variable thickness of W and Pt heavy-metal layers, a perpendicularly magnetized Co layer, and an antiferromagnetic NiO layer. Using current-driven switching and magnetoresistance and anomalous-Hall-effect measurements, we determine the perpendicular and in-plane exchange-bias field. Several Hall-bar devices possessing in-plane exchange bias from both systems are selected and analyzed in relation to our analytical switching model of the critical current density as a function of Pt and W thickness, resulting in estimation of the effective spin Hall angle and perpendicular effective magnetic anisotropy. We demonstrate in both the Pt/Co/NiO system and the W/Co/NiO system deterministic Co magnetization switching without an external magnetic field, which is replaced by an in-plane exchange-bias field. Moreover, we show that due to a higher effective spin Hall angle in the W-based system than in the Pt-based system, the relative difference between the resistance states in the magnetization current switching to the difference between the resistance states in magnetic field switching determined by the anomalous Hall effect (ΔR/ΔRAHE) is about twice as high in W-based devices than in Pt-based devices, while the critical switching-current density in W-based devices is 1 order lower than in Pt-based devices. The current-switching stability and the training process are discussed in detail.
