This research attempts to tackle the prevailing challenges in bandwidth estimation (BWE) for real-time communication systems, with a special emphasis on applying offline reinforcement learning to craft a more accurate neural network for BWE than those built using traditional heuristics. The developed model, 'CQLBWE', represents a data-driven approach to BWE, operating offline. The model exploits heuristic-based techniques from the past to formulate a proficient BWE policy. Furthermore, the successful usage of CQLBWE underscores the practicability of deploying offline reinforcement learning algorithms in the field of BWE. © 2024 IEEE.

A turbofan used in flight or in a bench test cell produces a lot of data. Numeric measurements describe the performance of the engine, the vibration conditions and more generally the behavior of the whole system (engine + bench or aircraft). It seems reasonable to embed an application capable of health diagnosis. This inboard monitoring system should use very light algorithms. The code need to work on old fashion FADEC calculators (Fault Authority Digital Engine Control) built on a technology dating more than 20 years. Snecma, as an engine manufacturer, has a great knowledge of the engine design and its behavior. This knowledge helps to select the best inputs for a good abnormality detection process, hence limiting the need of a too complex solution. In this article, I describe a very simple anomaly detection algorithm designed for embedding on light computers. This algorithm was validated on a bench test cell running a military engine.

Iris Recognition: Inherent Binomial Degrees of Freedom

The distinctiveness of the human iris has been measured by first extracting a set of features from the iris – an encoding – and then comparing these encoded feature sets to determine how distinct they are from one another. For example, John Daugman measures the distinctiveness of the human iris at 244 degrees of freedom, that is, Daugman’s encoding maps irises into the equivalent of 2244 distinct possibilities [2]. This paper shows by direct pixel-by-pixel comparison of high-quality iris images that the inherent number of degrees of freedom embodied in the human iris – independent of any encoding – is at least 536. When the resolution of these images is gradually reduced, the number of degrees of freedom decreases smoothly to 123 for the lowest resolution images tested. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. Text image super-resolution technology is widely used in the preprocessing stage of tasks such as scene text recognition to improve the readability of text images to humans. In order to facilitate important tasks and applications such as OCR recognition in the future, this paper proposes a method to improve the super-resolution of text images. The specific research work is as follows: 1. A research on Text Image Super Resolution algorithm (Research on Text Image Super Resolution algorithm Based on Deformable Attention Transformer) is proposed to address the issues of high memory and computational costs caused by the use of dense attention in text image super-resolution, the influence of irrelevant parts beyond the region of interest on features, and text deformation and distortion. This algorithm mainly uses Deformable Attention Transformer as an important part of the backbone network to generate super-resolution (SR) images [1]. 2. This article proposes introducing layout analysis in the field of intelligent document processing, which can recognize common layout elements in document images, including text, titles, and other elements, into Text Image Layout Label Module (TILL). This article uses the Image Processing Challenge dataset and TextZoom dataset, which can recognize the layout of text images in the synthesized dataset. In subsequent operations, the scale of image super-resolution can be adjusted as needed, which can improve the accuracy and effectiveness of image super-resolution. 3. Finally, the stroke position perception module (SPPM) and stroke content perception module (SCPM) were introduced [2]. The stroke position perception module can reduce the problem of character adhesion in the image reconstructed by the super-resolution network of the text image and enhance the feature extraction performance of the model by introducing character position information guidance, Enable the model to better focus on stroke position information. Joint Source-Channel Coding With Time-Varying Channel and Side-Information

Transmission of a Gaussian source over a time-varying Gaussian channel is studied in the presence of time-varying correlated side information at the receiver. A block fading model is considered for both the channel and the side information, whose states are assumed to be known only at the receiver. The optimality of separate source and channel coding in terms of average end-to-end distortion is shown when the channel is static, while the side information state follows a discrete or a continuous and quasiconcave distribution. When both the channel and side information states are time-varying, separate source and channel coding is suboptimal in general. A partially informed encoder lower bound is studied by providing the channel state information to the encoder. Several achievable transmission schemes are proposed based on uncoded transmission, separate source and channel coding, joint decoding, and hybrid digital-analog transmission. Uncoded transmission is shown to be optimal for a class of continuous and quasiconcave side information state distributions, while the channel gain may have an arbitrary distribution. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first example, in which the uncoded transmission achieves the optimal performance thanks to the time-varying nature of the states, while it is suboptimal in the static version of the same problem. Then, the optimal distortion exponent, which quantifies the exponential decay rate of the expected distortion in the high SNR regime, is characterized for Nakagami distributed channel and side information states, and it is shown to be achieved by hybrid digital-analog and joint decoding schemes in certain cases, illustrating the suboptimality of pure digital or analog transmission in general.

Capacity of a Class of State-Dependent Orthogonal Relay Channels

The class of orthogonal relay channels in which the orthogonal channels connecting the source terminal to the relay and the destination, and the relay to the destination, depend on a state sequence, is considered. It is assumed that the state sequence is fully known at the destination, while it is not known at the source or the relay. The capacity of this class of relay channels is characterized, and shown to be achieved by the partial decode-compress-and-forward (pDCF) scheme. Then, the capacity of certain binary and Gaussian state-dependent orthogonal relay channels are studied in detail, and it is shown that the compress-and-forward (CF) and partial-decode-and-forward (pDF) schemes are suboptimal in general. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first single relay channel model for which the capacity is achieved by pDCF, while pDF and CF schemes are both suboptimal. Furthermore, it is shown that the capacity of the considered class of state-dependent orthogonal relay channels is in general below the cut-set bound. The conditions under which pDF or CF suffices to meet the cut-set bound, and hence, achieve the capacity, are also derived.

Motion generation is one of the most important and challenging problems in multi-legged robot research. Most of the existing methods show a good fulfillment of the requirements of robots in structured environments. However, it still faces many challenges to generate motions effectively and quickly for multi-legged robot works in complex environments. In this paper, we put forward a method which converts the motion generation problem into a Multi-objective Optimization Problem (MOP), which will make the robot not only run as fast as possible, but also save energy, and then use a distribution estimation algorithm, the trend prediction model method, to obtain motions for a six-legged robot. Experiments show that this method is effective.

In this article, an incremental model predictive controller is proposed for the velocity-controlled robot manipulator. First, the time-delay estimation (TDE) technique is used to approximate the unknown discrepancy between the command and the real joint velocity due to velocity dynamics, and the equation of motion in the incremental form is obtained. Then, on the basis of the resulting equation of motion and taking into account joint position and velocity constraints, the incremental model predictive controller is developed by formulating a constrained optimal control problem (OCP). The constrained OCP is cast to a quadratic programming (QP) problem, making it possible to employ computationally efficient QP solvers to solve the constrained OCP. As a result, real-time control is guaranteed. Finally, experiments on a robot manipulator are implemented to verify the effectiveness of the developed incremental model predictive controller.
