Obtaining high-resolution hyperspectral images (HR-HSI) is costly and data-intensive, making it necessary to fuse low-resolution hyperspectral images (LR-HSI) with high-resolution RGB images (HR-RGB) for practical applications. However, traditional fusion techniques, which integrate detailed information into the reconstruction, significantly increase bandwidth consumption compared to directly transmitting raw data. To overcome these challenges, we propose a hierarchy-aware and channel-adaptive semantic communication approach for bandwidth-limited data fusion. A hierarchical correlation module is proposed to preserve both the overall structural information and the details of the image required for super-resolution. This module efficiently combines deep semantic and shallow features from LR-HSI and HR-RGB. To further reduce bandwidth usage while preserving reconstruction quality, a channel-adaptive attention mechanism based on Transformer is proposed to dynamically integrate and transmit the deep and shallow features, enabling efficient data transmission and high-quality HR-HSI reconstruction. Experimental results on the CAVE and Washington DC Mall datasets demonstrate that our method outperforms single-source transmission, achieving up to a 2 dB improvement in peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR). Additionally, it reduces bandwidth consumption by two-thirds, confirming its effectiveness in bandwidth-constrained environments for HR-HSI reconstruction tasks. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. Lightweight Task-Oriented Semantic Communication Empowered by Large-Scale AI Models

Recent studies have focused on leveraging large-scale artificial intelligence (LAI) models to improve semantic representation and compression capabilities. However, the substantial computational demands of LAI models pose significant challenges for real-time communication scenarios. To address this, this paper proposes utilizing knowledge distillation (KD) techniques to extract and condense knowledge from LAI models, effectively reducing model complexity and computation latency. Nevertheless, the inherent complexity of LAI models leads to prolonged inference times during distillation, while their lack of channel awareness compromises the distillation performance. These limitations make standard KD methods unsuitable for task-oriented semantic communication scenarios. To address these issues, we propose a fast distillation method featuring a pre-stored compression mechanism that eliminates the need for repetitive inference, significantly improving efficiency. Furthermore, a channel adaptive module is incorporated to dynamically adjust the transmitted semantic information based on varying channel conditions, enhancing communication reliability and adaptability. In addition, an information bottleneck-based loss function is derived to guide the fast distillation process. Simulation results verify that the proposed scheme outperform baselines in term of task accuracy, model size, computation latency, and training data requirements. © 1967-2012 IEEE.

Traditional LiDAR SLAM approaches prioritize localization over mapping, yet high-precision dense maps are essential for numerous applications involving intelligent agents. Recent advancements have introduced methods leveraging neural fields to enhance mapping capabilities;however, these approaches still face several limitations. Firstly, concerning scene representation, they typically employ neural fields with high-dimensional features and multi-layer perceptron decoders utilizing non-continuous activation functions. This results in low learning efficiency and challenges in capturing high-frequency signals. Secondly, in terms of scene organization, these methods often treat the entire scene as a singular neural field, leading to inefficiencies, inflexibility, and difficulties in rectifying accumulated errors when mapping large-scale environments over extended periods. To tackle the first issue, we propose a lightweight continuous SDF regression approach by encoding the scene in single-valued embeddings and decoding SDF values from a Kolmogorov-Arnold Network. By minimizing discrepancies in measuring range, sampling distance, and decoded SDF values, we facilitate iterative frame-to-model tracking and bundle adjustment neural mapping. To mitigate the second challenge, we propose structuring the whole scene into multiple neural SDF submaps. By establishing node-node, node-submap, and loop closure constraints into a global pose graph, the system can create dense neural maps with global consistency across large-scale scenes. Experimental evaluations in both real-world and simulated settings indicate that our system achieves superior mapping completeness and accuracy, enhanced learning efficiency, reduced memory consumption, and greater flexibility compared to its counterparts. © 2025 IEEE.

Generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) technologies represent an important advancement in the field of AI, particularly for their capabilities in text and image generation. Over-the-air wireless federated learning (OA-WFL) can utilize the wireless waveform superposition property to achieve efficient model aggregation, thereby providing support for GenAI training and deployment. Therefore, this article investigates the support of OA-WFL for GenAI, focusing on potential applications and specific examples. We first discuss the OA-WFL and GenAI models, emphasizing their functionalities and the potential benefits arising from their interaction. We then explore its application in various GenAI scenarios, including large-scale edge device content generation, efficient distributed training of GenAI models, and reduction of bandwidth requirements and device load. Next, a framework is proposed to apply OA-WFL to diffusion models, such as those used in image generation, and validate its effectiveness through simulation results. Finally, we discuss prospective research directions for the application of OA-WFL for GenAI. © 2025 IEEE.

In the era of 6G networks, the demand for robust and trustworthy communication systems has become more critical than ever, particularly in MIMO-enabled flying ad hoc networks (FANETs), also known as low-altitude networks. These networks combine the flexibility of aerial platforms with the high-capacity advantages of MIMO technology to support critical applications such as disaster recovery and urban management. However, ensuring trustworthiness, comprising reliability, security, privacy, and resilience, remains a significant challenge, especially under dynamic and adverse conditions. Current evaluation metrics fail to comprehensively assess these aspects, as they focus on isolated parameters such as latency or packet error rate. To address this gap, this study introduces a novel trustworthiness evaluation framework based on the age of incorrect information (AoII), extending traditional metrics by capturing the impact of erroneous information over time. The proposed multi-user MIMO FANET architecture, leveraging enhanced carrier sense multiple access (CSMA) mechanisms, achieves higher reliability and efficiency. Simulation results validate the feasibility of our framework, offering insights into the design of future 6G FANETs. © 1986-2012 IEEE.

Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) has become an ideal medium for long-term storage and retrieval due to its extremely high storage density and long-term stability. But access efficiency is an existing bottleneck in DNA storage, especially the lack of high-quality random access address sequences. Therefore, in this paper, we report a series of approaches based on k-weakly mutually uncorrelated (k-WMU) codes to design the address sequence to improve the access efficiency of DNA storage. To address the problem of DNA sequences that are poorly scalable at the base level, we propose a 0-m-ruling coding scheme combined with k-WMU codes that can make address sequences avoid generating secondary structure with stem lengths ranging from 3 to 9. Based on the decoupled structure, We further extend the k-WMU codes with error correction function while satisfying combinatorial biological constraints. In order to investigate the performance of the designed address sequences for real-world applications, we perform simulation experiments based on thermodynamic properties and error correction capability as well as compared the minimum free energy (MFE), melting temperature (TM), and average decoding success rate (ADSR) with previous work. The results show that designed address sequences have a high MFE value and ADSR and a substantial reduction in TM-variance while satisfying the combinatorial biological constraints. As the quality of address sequences improves, this will help to achieve accurate random access as well as enhance the robustness of the DNA storage system. © 2002-2011 IEEE.

Fluid antenna (FA) technology has emerged as a promising technology to achieve higher spectral and energy efficiency by introducing a new dimension. However, the antenna position configuration inevitably increases computational complexity, presenting challenges under real-time configuration requirements, especially in vehicular communication systems characterized by rapidly time-varying channels. To address these issues, this paper investigates the classical weighted sum rate maximization problem and proposes an optimization-empowered neural network framework designed to accelerate convergence without compromising accuracy. Extensive simulations demonstrate that the proposed approach effectively mitigates the computational burdens associated with FAs, delivering superior performance in terms of convergence rate and system performance, thus paving the way for the deployment of next-generation FA-enabled communication systems. © 2025 IEEE.

The utilization of emergent generative artificial intelligence (GAI) within the realm of unmanned vehicles (UVs) can boost edge intelligence and potentially enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of rescue operations. However, to facilitate specialized generative edge intelligence in dynamic UV networks, GAI models need to tap into local data and conduct online fine-tuning, and the dispersed distribution of UVs makes distributed fine-tuning paradigms crucial. Although the federated generative model fine-tuning brings a potential solution, the large number of parameter transmissions involved in its fine-tuning process are often constrained by communication bottlenecks, which are more pronounced for resource-constrained UV networks. To cope with these challenges, we introduce an energy-efficient GAI model fine-tuning framework for the hierarchical UV networks, which employs over-the-air technology to save computational resource costs for unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) during federated aggregation within a federated learning paradigm. Thereafter, we study the resource allocation problem in the fine-tuning process of the generative model and formulate a joint optimization problem for the bandwidth allocation, power control, computation resource allocation, and denoising factor control, aiming to minimize the system energy consumption. Then, we decouple the original problem into four tractable subproblems, and propose a block coordinate descent algorithm to solve them iteratively. Particularly, we derive a closed-form solution for the denoising factor to minimize the local model uploading transmission energy consumption under a specific AirComp communication error threshold. Simulation based on the state-of-the-art generative models shows that our AirComp-assisted federated generative model fine-tuning scheme can achieve satisfactory customized field-of-view image generation capability compared with the traditional fine-tuning scheme in an energy-efficient way. © 2015 I

The joint optimization of rate-splitting multiple access (RSMA) and reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) offers a mutually beneficial solution. In this paper, we study a RIS-assisted downlink user grouping-based hierarchical RSMA communication network, where the base station transmits the common streams and private streams simultaneously to serve multiple users. The sum rate (SR) optimization problem is constructed to jointly optimize user grouping, beamforming, and rate splitting. To tackle the NP-hard problem, a user grouping algorithm is first provided to form the hierarchical RSMA model. Next, an equivalent weighted minimum mean-square error (WMMSE) problem is constructed and a WMMSE-based block coordinate descent (BCD) algorithm is designed to update the remaining variables in an iterated way. Specifically, the optimization of transmit beamforming and the rate splitting matrix is reduced to solving a typical convex quadratically constrained quadratic program problem. The solution for passive beamforming is recovered from the intermediate result obtained by the manifold optimization method. Finally, the process of the BCD algorithm is presented. The numerical results indicate that the proposed scheme evidently surpasses one-layer RSMA scheme, NOMA scheme, SDMA scheme, and no RIS scheme, especially in overloaded scenarios. The proposed scheme further increases the SR of common steams compared to the hierarchical RSMA scheme and significantly reduces computational complexity compared to the generalized RSMA scheme. © 2015 IEEE.

UAV-Aided Covert Federated Learning Networks

With the increasing emphasis on data privacy, federated learning (FL) networks show great potential through distributed training without directly sharing the raw data. However, the coverage of FL terrestrial servers is usually limited. Therefore, we propose leveraging the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) as a mobile flying server to further improve the wireless coverage and training efficiency of FL. Nevertheless, frequent exchanges of model parameters in UAV-assisted FL can result in serious security risks. In order to achieve this, we propose a covert FL scheme assisted by the UAV, which can protect the transmission key features of local models from being detected by wardens. Furthermore, we discuss the FL network and covert communications, as well as the exceptional features of UAV-assisted covert FL. Finally, we present two case studies, one of which focuses on minimising the network latency, while the other concentrates on reducing the energy consumption of covert FL. The simulation results demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed schemes in addressing future challenges. © 1986-2012 IEEE.
