The ASIC implementation of a 6464 sized mixedsignal Cellular Visual Microprocessor architecture with digital processors is described. Measurement results are shown. The architecture is composed of a regular photosensor readout circuit array, prepared for 3D sensor integration, an array of identical SIMD processing elements, and central program scheduler. The processing architecture supports cluster formation of differently parameterized arrays. © 2007 IEEE.

The visual navigation system of a UAV is a complex embedded device designed to modify the path of the platform depending on objects or events detected on the ground. In the visual field of the autopilot these events could be formalized as specific space-time signatures. Processing all pixels captured by the on-board camera(s) in real time with high frame rate needs huge computational effort that is often unnecessary. An adequate computational strategy would focus on the interesting locations only as in the visual system of various species. In this article we describe an automatic focusing mechanism relying on optical flow calculation for detecting moving objects on the ground, thus efficiently separating the motion of interest from ego-motion of the platform.

A digital folk song search and retrieval system with a hand gesture based interface is presented. Tillarom is a comprehensive collection of original Hungarian folk songs recorded using different technologies such as phonographs and/or stereo DAT cassettes. This digital archive contains professional quality metadata records as well as MIDI recordings for presenting the different types of clustered folk songs. An AJAX based search and retrieval interface was developed that can be used together with optically recognized Kodály's hand signs to formulate queries through a web browser. The appearance based recognition of hand gestures utilizes contour analysis and SVM based classification. We evaluated the performance of the recognition of hand signs and investigated the main problems of their usage in our system. Copyright 2006 ACM.

The CNN literature contains several papers about how to use the genetic algorithms for template tuning. This paper shows a possible CNN-UM implementation of the control algorithm of the genetic algorithm in a special fine-grained parallel version. In this paper the parallel implementation of the Horn and Schunck motion estimation method in image sequences is presented, by using cellular neural networks (CNN). One of the drawbacks of the classical motion estimation algorithms is the computational time. The goal of the CNN implementation of the Horn & Schunck method is to increase the efficiency of the well-known classical implementation of this method, which is one of the most used algorithms among the motion estimation techniques. The aim is to obtain a smaller computation time and to include such an algorithm in motion compensation algorithms implemented using CNN, in order to obtain homogeneous algorithms for real-time applications in artificial vision or medical imaging

In the area of geophysical and mining engineering the solution of partial differential equations (PDE) has been one of the most important problems of mathematics for a long time. Inside that one of the most exciting fields is the simulation of geothermal processes which can be used in the everyday energy-management. In this contribution a CNN-UM simulation of water reinjection are presented. Unfortunately the three dimensional - or the coupled multi-layered - computational structure and space-variant templates do not make it possible to utilize the huge computing power of the analog CNN-UM chips. This paper presents an extended emulated digital retina model to compute two different retina channels in video real-time. The proposed emulated digital implementation of the two-channel retina model was compared to the previously developed single channel model from three different points of view: processing speed, number of physical cells and accuracy. A real-time test environment with camera input and display output is going to be set up to analyze the retina model implementation on emulated digital CNN (Cellular neural/Nonlinear Network) model by using a 6M gate equivalent FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array).
