Fusion of Visible and Infrared Images Based on IHS Transformation and Regional Variance Matching Degree

It is usually necessary to identify and extract specific characteristics by deriving an informative fused image from multiple images. An effective fusion algorithm was proposed by combining the intensity-hue-saturation (IHS) transformation and the regional variance matching degree (RVMD) in our study. Visible and thermal infrared images of wheat were used as the original data sources. After finishing the IHS transformation, a fusion rule was designed to produce the new component I. More specifically, the high frequency fusion rule was generated by the RVMD with a threshold of 0.5 and a 3 × 3 moving window, and the weighted average was used as the low frequency fusion rule. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can avoid producing color distortion in comparison with the IHS transformation, and additionally, it can also enhance the edge contrast and produce more obvious texture resolution. In addition, three quantitative indicators including entropy, standard deviation and average gradient were used to validate the proposed algorithm. The analysis results show that the values of three indicators are respectively 7.82, 63.93, 10.06, which are better than the results derived from the IHS transformation and regional variance fusion.

Sysevr: A framework for using deep learning to detect software vulnerabilities

The detection of software vulnerabilities (or vulnerabilities for short) is an important problem that has yet to be tackled, as manifested by many vulnerabilities reported on a daily basis. This calls for machine learning methods to automate vulnerability detection. Deep learning is attractive for this purpose because it does not require human experts to manually define features. Despite the tremendous success of deep learning in other domains, its applicability to vulnerability detection is not systematically understood. In order to fill this void, we propose the first systematic framework for using deep learning to detect vulnerabilities. The framework, dubbed Syntax-based, Semantics-based, and Vector Representations (SySeVR), focuses on obtaining program representations that can accommodate syntax and semantic information pertinent to vulnerabilities. Our experiments with 4 software products demonstrate the usefulness of the framework: we detect 15 vulnerabilities that are not reported in the National Vulnerability database. Among these 15 vulnerabilities, 7 are unknown and have been reported to the vendors, and the other 8 have been "silently" patched by the vendors when releasing newer versions of the products. Transfer entropy (TE) has been broadly used in the field of neurosciences. In this paper, the partial information decomposition algorithm is employed to decompose multivariate TE into synergistic, redundant and unique parts. In this work, the synergistic part is believed as more suitable as the computation method. We recorded the magnetoencephalogram (MEG) data of 6 subjects with depression and 13 normal subjects under different emotional stimulations, and studied the coupling between multiple symmetric channels in the frontal area in the brain of subject. The experimental results show that under different emotional stimulations, normal people present significant difference from the depression patients, especially in the right frontal area. Furthermore, under negative emotional stimulation, the difference in synergistic value between normal people and depression patients is smaller. The synergistic value of depression patients has become bigger, which indicates that the brain complexity of depression patients has grown, and their brain activities have increased.

Zero-determinant strategies are a new class of probabilistic and conditional strategies, where a player can use a linear relationship between his own payoff and the opponents payoff to determine his opponents expected payoff or extort his opponents unilaterally. This paper will analysis a model of zero-determinant strategies for three players in the finitely repeated public goods game（with a discount factor δ satisfying 0 ＜ δ ＜ 1）. Via analyzing these strategies for three players in the game, including equalizer strategies, extortion strategies and generous strategies, it finds that a player also has an ability to pin the expected total payoff of all other players in a unilateral way as the two-player model by equalizer strategies and can set a ratio between his payoff and the total payoff of all other players by the extortion strategies, and the expected payoffs of three players can obtain the same payoff when they cooperate in the first round by using generous strategies. This provides potential clues to design efficient cooperation protocol in multi-agent systems.

This study presents the outcomes of the shared task competition BioCreative VII (Task 3) focusing on the extraction of medication names from a Twitter user's publicly available tweets (the user's 'timeline'). In general, detecting health-related tweets is notoriously challenging for natural language processing tools. The main challenge, aside from the informality of the language used, is that people tweet about any and all topics, and most of their tweets are not related to health. Thus, finding those tweets in a user's timeline that mention specific health-related concepts such as medications requires addressing extreme imbalance. Task 3 called for detecting tweets in a user's timeline that mentions a medication name and, for each detected mention, extracting its span. The organizers made available a corpus consisting of 182 049 tweets publicly posted by 212 Twitter users with all medication mentions manually annotated. The corpus exhibits the natural distribution of positive tweets, with only 442 tweets (0.2%) mentioning a medication. This task was an opportunity for participants to evaluate methods that are robust to class imbalance beyond the simple lexical match. A total of 65 teams registered, and 16 teams submitted a system run. This study summarizes the corpus created by the organizers and the approaches taken by the participating teams for this challenge. The corpus is freely available at https://***/tasks/biocreative-vii/track-3/. The methods and the results of the competing systems are analyzed with a focus on the approaches taken for learning from class-imbalanced data.

Biomedical ontology matching aims at determining the heterogeneous biomed-ical concepts, and bridging the semantic gap between heterogeneous biomedical ontologies. The foundation of a biomedical ontology matching technique is the Biomedical Concept Similarity Measure (BCSM), which calculates the similarity value between two biomed-ical concepts. Since various BCSMs have different advantages, usually several BCSMs are aggregated together to improve the result’s confidence. How to tune the aggregating weights to ensure the quality of the alignment is called biomedical ontology meta-matching problem, which is a challenge in the ontology matching domain. Currently, researchers mainly focus on how to tune the aggregating weights for various similarity measures to improve the quality of the ontology alignments. However, the ignorance of the effects brought about by different biomedical concept mapping’s preference on different similarity measures significantly reduces the alignment’s quality. To overcome this drawback, in this work, we formally define the biomedical ontology meta-matching problem, and then present an Ordered Weighted Average (OWA) based approach to automatically aggregate various biomedical concept similarity measures. In our method, the aggregating weights determined for each concept mapping is associated with the ordered position of the similarity value instead of a particular concept similarity measure. The experiment utilizes the large biomed track provided by Ontology Alignment Evaluation Initiative (OAEI) to test our proposal’s performance, and the experimental results show the effectiveness of our proposal. © 2019, Taiwan Ubiquitous Information. Breast cancer is the most prevalent disease to females in the worldwide. Its pathology remains unclear. Genetics factors is the ways to understand the molecular mechanism. This paper proposed a computational approach to explore the interactions of genes2genes related to breast cancer. We first defined the interactions of genes2genes, and described the representation of interactions of genes2genes. Using the experimental dataset, we implemented the proposed approach for extracting the interactions of genes2genes. Moreover, we also represented the interactions of genes2genes in two forms: relationship matrix and network visualization. By manual analysis, we extracted the interactions of top 10 genes2genes is related to breast cancer, which show the approach is promising for studying molecular mechanism related to breast cancer.

Intrusion Detection System is a pattern recognition task whose aim is to detect and report the occurrence of abnormal or unknown network behaviors in a given network system being monitored. In this paper, we propose a machine learning model, advanced Naive Bayesian Classification (NBC-A) which is based on NBC and ReliefF algorithm, to be used in the novel IDS. We use ReliefF algorithm to give every attribute of network behavior in KDD’99 dataset a weight that reflects the relationship between attributes and final class for better classification results. The novel IDS has a higher True Positive (TP) rate and a lower False Positive (FP) rate in detection performance. © 2018, ICST Institute for Computer Sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications engineering.

The problem of selecting the best k-element subset from a universe is involved in many applications. While previous studies assumed a noise-free environment or a noisy monotone submodular objective function, this paper considers a more realistic and general situation where the evaluation of a subset is a noisy monotone function (not necessarily submodular), with both multiplicative and additive noises. To understand the impact of the noise, we firstly show the approximation ratio of the greedy algorithm and POSS, two powerful algorithms for noise-free subset selection, in the noisy environments. We then propose to incorporate a noise-aware strategy into POSS, resulting in the new PONSS algorithm. We prove that PONSS can achieve a better approximation ratio under some assumption such as i.i.d. noise distribution. The empirical results on influence maximization and sparse regression problems show the superior performance of PONSS.
