Represented by evolutionary algorithms and swarm intelligence algorithms, nature-inspired metaheuristics have been successfully applied to recommender systems and amply demonstrated effectiveness, in particular, for multiobjective recommendation. Owing to the population-based search paradigm, these algorithms can produce a number of recommendation lists, making diverse tradeoffs between multiple metrics and meeting the requirements of accuracy, novelty, diversity, and other user preferences. However, these algorithms are criticized for the low efficiency of the optimization process, especially when the number of users is large. To address this issue, this article proposes an evolutionary multitasking-based recommendation method, where each task corresponds to a user and all the tasks are optimized simultaneously, thus highly improving the efficiency of recommendation. To enhance the convergence speed, all the users are divided into multiple populations according to the similarity between their preferences, where each population evolves with internal knowledge transfer between users, and all the populations evolve with external knowledge transfer between populations. Experimental results on various datasets verify that the proposed method can better balance between multiple metrics than classical and deep neural network-based recommendation methods and exhibits significantly higher efficiency than evolutionary multiobjective optimization-based recommendation methods. © 2024 IEEE. The burgeoning complexity of communication necessitates a high demand for security. Access control encryption is a promising primitive to meet the security demand but the bulk of its constructions rely on formulating the access control policy with identities. Attribute-based access control policy in attribute-based encryption (ABE) is known to be more expressive without relying on enumerating identities. We propose a generic framework to build attribute-based access control encryption from ciphertext-policy ABE. Our instantiations prioritize different emphases on expressiveness and efficiency. The first instantiation supports multi-valued AND-gate access control structures, while the second supports the linear-secret-sharing access structure. Both are prototyped with efficiency validated empirically. © 2024 IEEE.

A survey on cross-user federated recommendation

Recommender systems are effective in mitigating information overload, yet the centralized storage of user data raises significant privacy concerns. Cross-user federated recommendation(CUFR) provides a promising distributed paradigm to address these concerns by enabling privacy-preserving recommendations directly on user devices. In this survey, we review and categorize current progress in CUFR, focusing on four key aspects: privacy, security, accuracy, and efficiency. Firstly,we conduct an in-depth privacy analysis, discuss various cases of privacy leakage, and then review recent methods for privacy protection. Secondly, we analyze security concerns and review recent methods for untargeted and targeted *** untargeted attack methods, we categorize them into data poisoning attack methods and parameter poisoning attack methods. For targeted attack methods, we categorize them into user-based methods and item-based methods. Thirdly,we provide an overview of the federated variants of some representative methods, and then review the recent methods for improving accuracy from two categories: data heterogeneity and high-order information. Fourthly, we review recent methods for improving training efficiency from two categories: client sampling and model compression. Finally, we conclude this survey and explore some potential future research topics in CUFR.

Multivariable financial time series forecasting based on phase space reconstruction compensation

Accurate financial time series forecasting is an important challenge in the financial field due to varying levels of interaction among multiple financial time series, complicating the extraction of valid information from these variables. This study introduces an effective and efficient multivariable financial time series forecasting model based on phase space reconstruction compensation: Phase Space Reconstruction Compensation Long Short-Term Memory (PSR-LSTM). The PSR-LSTM model leverages the long short-term memory (LSTM) network to analyze short-term data behaviors, reconstructs multiple long-term variables by phase space reconstruction method, and utilizes multivariable trend attention to capture trend information in correlated variables. This trend information is finally used to correct the LSTM network’s predictive result. Experimental results demonstrate that the PSR-LSTM outperforms existing multivariable forecasting models by effectively mitigating noise interference while achieving optimal forecasting performance. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2024.

This paper introduces the Surrogate-assisted Multi-objective Grey Wolf Optimizer(SMOGWO)as a novel methodology for addressing the complex problem of empty-heavy train allocation,with a focus on line utilization *** integrating surrogate models to approximate the objective functions,SMOGWO significantly improves the efficiency and accuracy of the optimization *** effectiveness of this approach is evaluated using the CEC2009 multi-objective test function suite,where SMOGWO achieves a superiority rate of 76.67%compared to other leading multi-objective ***,the practical applicability of SMOGWO is demonstrated through a case study on empty and heavy train allocation,which validates its ability to balance line capacity,minimize transportation costs,and optimize the technical combination of heavy *** research highlights SMOGWO's potential as a robust solution for optimization challenges in railway transportation,offering valuable contributions toward enhancing operational efficiency and promoting sustainable development in the sector.

Cost-Effective Edge data Caching With Failure Tolerance and Popularity Awareness

In the mobile edge computing environment, caching data in edge storage systems can significantly reduce data retrieval latency for users while saving the costs incurred by cloud-edge data transmissions for app vendors. Existing edge data caching (EDC) methods prioritize popular data and aim to minimize users’ data retrieval latency and system storage costs jointly. However, these EDC methods often rely on the assumption that data popularity always follows certain distributions. As a result, they cannot properly adapt to the fluctuations in data popularity due to user mobility or unexpected increases in user demands. Meanwhile, unlike cloud data centers, complex and fragile edge servers are more likely to experience physical failures or network outages, presenting new challenges for EDC strategies. Specifically, when an edge server fails or experiences an outage, cached data may become temporarily unavailable, leading to increased latency as requests are redirected to alternative servers or the cloud. In this paper, to enable uncertainty-aware edge data caching (uEDC), we first model the problem as a robust optimization problem and propose an optimal algorithm named uEDC-B to find the optimal uEDC solution. To address the high computational complexity of uEDC-B, we introduce an approximate algorithm named uEDC-L based on linear decision rules. Theoretical analysis and extensive experiments on a real-world dataset demonstrate that the proposed methods outperform two state-of-the-art approaches in handling the uncertainties in data popularity and edge server failure with a significant performance improvement of 59.27% in data retrieval latency and 55.07% in data caching cost. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

In this letter, a low-profile, high-aperture-efficiency millimeter-wave magneto-electric dipole (MED) circularly polarized (CP) beam-scanning antenna array is proposed. Initially, a novel MED antenna element is designed by arranging metallized vias around the radiating patches to serve as beam directors. This novel method not only provides broad axial-ratio (AR) beams and wide half-power beamwidths but also maintains a low-profile and compact structural characteristic. By adjusting the positions of the via directors, the radiation beam direction of the antenna element is effectively controlled. Subsequently, 4 × 4 antenna arrays for the xoz and yoz planes are designed and simulated to verify the CP beam scanning performance. The results demonstrate that the maximum CP beam scanning range can reach from -50° to +50°, with the AR maintained below 3 dB throughout the scanning range. At 29 GHz, the peak aperture efficiencies of the antenna arrays reach 73.8%, while maintaining a low profile of just 0.12λ0. Finally, the measurement results confirm the validity of the simulations. © 2002-2011 IEEE.

The key-value separation is renowned for its significant mitigation of the write amplification inherent in traditional LSM trees. However, KV separation potentially increases performance overhead in the management of Value region, especially for garbage collection (GC) operation that is used to reduce the redundant space occupation. In response, many efforts have been made to optimize the GC mechanism for KV separation. However, our analysis indicates that such solution based on trade-offs between CPU and I/O overheads cannot simultaneously satisfy the three requirements of KV separated systems in terms of throughput, tail latency, and space usage. This limitation hinders their real-world application. In this paper, we introduce AegonKV, a "three-birds-one-stone" solution that comprehensively enhances the throughput, tail latency, and space usage of KV separated systems. AegonKV first proposes a SmartSSD-based GC offloading mechanism to enable asynchronous GC operations without competing with LSM read/write for bandwidth or CPU. AegonKV leverages offload-friendly data structures and hardware/software execution logic to address the challenges of GC offloading. Experiments demonstrate that AegonKV achieves the largest throughput improvement of 1.28-3.3 times, a significant reduction of 37%-66% in tail latency, and 15%-85% in space overhead compared to existing KV separated systems. © 2025 FAST. Sharding is a promising technique to tackle the critical weakness of scalability in blockchain-based unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV)search and rescue(SAR)*** breaking up the blockchain network into smaller partitions called shards that run independently and in parallel,shardingbased UAV systems can support a large number of search and rescue UAVs with improved scalability,thereby enhancing the rescue ***,the lack of adaptability and interoperability still hinder the application of sharded blockchain in UAV SAR *** refers to making adjustments to the blockchain towards real-time surrounding situations,while interoperability refers to making cross-shard interactions at the mission *** address the above challenges,we propose a blockchain UAV system for SAR missions based on dynamic sharding *** from the benefits in scalability brought by sharding,our system improves adaptability by dynamically creating configurable and mission-exclusive shards,and improves interoperability by supporting calls between smart contracts that are deployed on different *** implement a prototype of our system based on Quorum,give an analysis of the improved adaptability and interoperability,and conduct experiments to evaluate the *** results show our system can achieve the above goals and overcome the weakness of blockchain-based UAV systems in SAR scenarios.
