In SAE Level 2 (L2) and Level 3 (L3) automated driving, drivers are required to take over control from automation when reaching system boundaries. The length of time budget is the vital parameter that needs to be determined to ensure a safe takeover manner. Existing literature on this issue rarely considers potential interactions between time budget and other factors, and a variable time budget seemed to be paradoxical in critical unplanned transitions. To this end, this study investigated drivers' takeover performance and workload under varying automation levels, time budget and road curvature. We employed the operational design domain (ODD) exiting event as the transition scenario where the ego car was about to leave the highway. Results showed that drivers in L3 takeovers performed worse and elicited higher workload than L2 when entering a curved ramp with a limited time budget. Takeovers when entering a curved ramp yielded worse performance and higher workload, as compared to entering a straight ramp. Such detrimental effects caused by loss of situation awareness (SA) and change of road curvature can be mitigated by increasing the length of time budget. All these findings suggest that even in simplified ODD exiting scenarios, the length of time budget should vary according to the state of the driver and the environment. © 2022 IEEE.

Malware scanning of an app market is expected to be scalable and effective. However, existing approaches use syntax-based features that can be evaded by transformation attacks or semantic-based features which are usually extracted by expensive program analysis. Therefore, to address the scalability challenges of traditional heavyweight static analysis, we propose a graph-based lightweight approach MalScan for Android malware detection. MalScan considers the function call graph as a complex social network and employs centrality analysis on sensitive application program interfaces (APIs) to express the semantic characteristics of the graph. On this basis, machine learning algorithms and ensemble learning algorithms are applied to classify the extracted features. We evaluate MalScan on datasets of 104,892 benign apps and 108,640 malwares, and the results of experiments indicate that MalScan outperforms six state-of-the-art detectors and can quickly detect Android malware with an f-value as high as 99%. In addition, there are also significant improvements in the robustness of Android app evolution and robustness to obfuscation. Finally, we conduct an exhaustive statistical study of over one million applications in the Google-Play app market and successfully identify 498 zero-day malware, which further validates the feasibility of MalScan on market-wide malware scanning. © 2004-2012 IEEE.

Drug package recommendation via interaction-aware graph induction

Recent years have witnessed the rapid accumulation of massive electronic medical records (EMRs), which highly support the intelligent medical services such as drug recommendation. However, prior arts mainly follow the traditional recommendation strategies like collaborative filtering, which usually treat individual drugs as mutually independent, while the latent interactions among drugs, e.g., synergistic or antagonistic effect, have been largely ignored. To that end, in this paper, we target at developing a new paradigm for drug package recommendation with considering the interaction effect within drugs, in which the interaction effects could be affected by patient conditions. Specifically, we first design a pre-training method based on neural collaborative filtering to get the initial embedding of patients and drugs. Then, the drug interaction graph will be initialized based on medical records and domain knowledge. Along this line, we propose a new Drug Package Recommendation (DPR) framework with two variants, respectively DPR on Weighted Graph (DPR-WG) and DPR on Attributed Graph (DPR-AG) to solve the problem, in which each the interactions will be described as signed weights or attribute vectors. In detail, a mask layer is utilized to capture the impact of patient condition, and graph neural networks (GNNs) are leveraged for the final graph induction task to embed the package. Extensive experiments on a real-world data set from a first-rate hospital demonstrate the effectiveness of our DPR framework compared with several competitive baseline methods, and further support the heuristic study for the drug package generation task with adequate performance. Container technology has gained great popularity in cloud environment since containers provide near-native performance and are lighter and less expensive than traditional virtual machines. However, starting up a non-local container, whose image is unavailable locally, is time-consuming. The reason is that pulling an image from a remote registry requires a long time. In this paper, we experimentally find that a lot of redundant data exists among image layers when we pull images from the registry. This redundant data causes additional pull time and makes the startup of a non-local container slower. To minimize the amount of pulled data while providing intact images, we propose a container deployment framework, BED, based on block-level deduplication. To be specific, BED stores an image layer as numerous data blocks and a fingerprint list which is generated based on these data blocks. When BED needs to pull an image, it pulls the fingerprint lists of the image, deduplicates these fingerprint lists, and pulls the data blocks non-existing locally from the registry. Based on the local and pulled blocks, BED reconstructs the image layers for a container. Experiments show that compared with original Docker, BED reduces the time of pulling images by 35% on average and saves about 48% data transmission in the network. © 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Semi-autoregressive transformer for image captioning

Current state-of-the-art image captioning models adopt autoregressive decoders, i.e. they generate each word by conditioning on previously generated words, which leads to heavy latency during inference. To tackle this issue, non-autoregressive image captioning models have recently been proposed to significantly accelerate the speed of inference by generating all words in parallel. However, these non-autoregressive models inevitably suffer from large generation quality degradation since they remove words dependence excessively. To make a better trade-off between speed and quality, we introduce a semi-autoregressive model for image captioning (dubbed as SATIC), which keeps the autoregressive property in global but generates words parallelly in local. Based on Transformer, there are only a few modifications needed to implement SATIC. Experimental results on the MSCOCO image captioning benchmark show that SATIC can achieve a good trade-off without bells and whistles. Code is available at https://***/YuanEZhou/satic. Deep learning (DL) systems usually utilize asynchronous prefetch to improve data reading performance. However, the efficiency of the data transfer path from hard disk to DRAM is still limited by disk performance. The emerging non-volatile memory (NVRAM) provides a novel solution for this problem, while few existing researches have considered it. We propose a novel efficient data prefetch strategy for DL based on a heterogeneous memory system combining NVRAM with DRAM. Benefitting from the large capacity and fast reading speed of NVRAM, the strategy uses an asynchronous reading method named sliding NVRAM cache (SNC) to improve the performance of the data transfer paths. A sliding window is applied to map the data from disk to NVRAM and continuously update the data, while non-ideal writing performance of NVRAM can be remitted to a large extent in this strategy. Experiments show that SNC can improve the time performance of diverse deep neural networks training by more than 30%. © 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Generalizable Black-Box Adversarial Attack with Meta Learning

In the scenario of black-box adversarial attack, the target model's parameters are unknown, and the attacker aims to find a successful adversarial perturbation based on query feedback under a query budget. Due to the limited feedback information, existing query-based black-box attack methods often require many queries for attacking each benign example. To reduce query cost, we propose to utilize the feedback information across historical attacks, dubbed example-level adversarial transferability. Specifically, by treating the attack on each benign example as one task, we develop a meta-learning framework by training a meta generator to produce perturbations conditioned on benign examples. When attacking a new benign example, the meta generator can be quickly fine-tuned based on the feedback information of the new task as well as a few historical attacks to produce effective perturbations. Moreover, since the meta-train procedure consumes many queries to learn a generalizable generator, we utilize model-level adversarial transferability to train the meta generator on a white-box surrogate model, then transfer it to help the attack against the target model. The proposed framework with the two types of adversarial transferability can be naturally combined with any off-the-shelf query-based attack methods to boost their performance, which is verified by extensive experiments. Back in the days, documents, payment receipts, and books are being published in printed format. To make a digital format, readers need to manually type them into a computer. However, things have change rapidly especially in the information technology (IT) industry. Optical character recognition (OCR) has been introduced to simplify the digitalization process for users. However, OCR not able to translate scanned text images into different human readable languages. Therefore, this paper proposed an Android-based application programming interface (API) developed using Firebase as an improvement text recognition program that able to translate the scanned text images into language of user preference. This proposed API processes text images, detects text from the scanned images, and translate the text into user-preferred languages. The used data in this paper is the research papers available in the university library. © 2021 IEEE.

Tile Classification Based Viewport Prediction with Multi-modal Fusion Transformer

Viewport prediction is a crucial aspect of tile-based 360◦ video streaming system. However, existing trajectory based methods lack of robustness, also oversimplify the process of information construction and fusion between different modality inputs, leading to the error accumulation problem. In this paper, we propose a tile classification based viewport prediction method with Multi-modal Fusion Transformer, namely MFTR. Specifically, MFTR utilizes transformer-based networks to extract the long-range dependencies within each modality, then mine intra- and inter-modality relations to capture the combined impact of user historical inputs and video contents on future viewport selection. In addition, MFTR categorizes future tiles into two categories: user interested or not, and selects future viewport as the region that contains most user interested tiles. Comparing with predicting head trajectories, choosing future viewport based on tile's binary classification results exhibits better robustness and interpretability. To evaluate our proposed MFTR, we conduct extensive experiments on two widely used PVS-HM and Xu-Gaze dataset. MFTR shows superior performance over state-of-the-art methods in terms of average prediction accuracy and overlap ratio, also presents competitive computation efficiency. © 2023, CC BY.

Generalized Face Forgery Detection via Adaptive Learning for Pre-trained Vision Transformer

With the rapid progress of generative models, the current challenge in face forgery detection is how to effectively detect realistic manipulated faces from different unseen domains. Though previous studies show that pre-trained Vision Transformer (ViT) based models can achieve some promising results after fully fine-tuning on the Deepfake dataset, their generalization performances are still unsatisfactory. One possible reason is that fully fine-tuned ViT-based models may disrupt the pre-trained features [1], [2] and overfit to some data-specific patterns [3]. To alleviate this issue, we present a Forgery-aware Adaptive Vision Transformer (FA-ViT) under the adaptive learning paradigm, where the parameters in the pre-trained ViT are kept fixed while the designed adaptive modules are optimized to capture forgery features. Specifically, a global adaptive module is designed to model long-range interactions among input tokens, which takes advantage of self-attention mechanism to mine global forgery clues. To further explore essential local forgery clues, a local adaptive module is proposed to expose local inconsistencies by enhancing the local contextual association. In addition, we introduce a fine-grained adaptive learning module that emphasizes the common compact representation of genuine faces through relationship learning in fine-grained pairs, driving these proposed adaptive modules to be aware of fine-grained forgery-aware information. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our FA-ViT achieves state-of-the-arts results in the cross-dataset evaluation, and enhances the robustness against unseen perturbations. Particularly, FA-ViT achieves 93.83% and 78.32% AUC scores on Celeb-DF and DFDC datasets in the cross-dataset evaluation.
