Reliability is one of the essential attributes of the dependable software, and an important factor for quantitatively characterizing software quality. Conventional methodology is software Reliability Growth Model (SRGM), which specifies the form of a random process that describes the behavior of software failures with respect to time. In this paper, we propose that the behavior of software failures possesses determinacy as well as randomness. So we apply chaos theory to software reliability assessment. Based on chaos theory, we can estimate software reliability according to the objective law hidden in the data, unlike the SRGM which usually makes a number of assumptions. This approach avoids the subjectivity in the SRGM. Also, we analyze the actual software failures data sets with the add-weighted one-rank localregion method (AOLM) based on chaos theory and compare the results with the conventional stochastic SRGM JM (Jelinsky-Moranda) model and NHPP (nonhomogeneous poisson process) mode. Comparison results show that the proposed method fits better than the stochastic ones. © 2010 IEEE.

One of the main objective of spectrum sensing is to detect spectrum opportunity quickly and accurately. Both of the two aspects can be improved by hardware upgrading and software optimization. In this paper, we concentrate on sensing accuracy, which, differs from previous solutions, will be enhanced by modification of network topology. We expand the traditional parallel fusion network (PFN) to parallel feedback fusion network (PFFN), in which local cognitive sensor makes its local decision based on previous global decision and its recent observation. We then derived optimal decision rules for PFFN. Moreover, based on PFFN, sensing history of local cognitive sensor is introduced and studied. Theoretical analysis and experimental results show that PFFN outperforms the PFN in smaller system error probability under the same SNR. We also proved that PFFN and PFFN with sensing history (PFFNSH) emphasize on different aspects when certain condition holds in real world applications. Finally, a general PFFN framework is proposed and discussed. ©2009 IEEE.

In order to conduct optical neurophysiology experiments on a freely swimming zebrafish,it is essential to quantify the zebrafish head to determine exact lighting *** efficiently quantify a zebrafish head's behaviors with limited resources,we propose a real-time multi-stage architecture based on convolutional neural networks for pose estimation of the zebrafish head on *** stage is implemented with a small neural ***,a light-weight object detector named Micro-YOLO is used to detect a coarse region of the zebrafish head in the first *** the second stage,a tiny bounding box refinement network is devised to produce a high-quality bounding box around the zebrafish ***,a small pose estimation network named tiny-hourglass is designed to detect keypoints in the zebrafish *** experimental results show that using Micro-YOLO combined with RegressNet to predict the zebrafish head region is not only more accurate but also much faster than Faster R-CNN which is the representative of two-stage *** with DeepLabCut,a state-of-the-art method to estimate poses for user-defined body parts,our multi-stage architecture can achieve a higher accuracy,and runs 19x faster than it on CPUs.

Necessary and sufficient checkpoint selection for temporal verification of high-confidence cloud workflow systems

On-time completion is an important temporal Qo S(Quality of Service) dimension and one of the fundamental requirements for high-confidence workflow systems. In recent years, a workflow temporal verification framework, which generally consists of temporal constraint setting, temporal checkpoint selection, temporal verification, and temporal violation handling, has been the major approach for the high temporal Qo S assurance of workflow systems. Among them, effective temporal checkpoint selection, which aims to timely detect intermediate temporal violations along workflow execution plays a critical role. Therefore, temporal checkpoint selection has been a major topic and has attracted significant efforts. In this paper, we will present an overview of workflow temporal checkpoint selection for temporal verification. Specifically, we will first introduce the throughput based and response-time based temporal consistency models for business and scientific cloud workflow systems,respectively. Then the corresponding benchmarking checkpoint selection strategies that satisfy the property of"necessity and sufficiency" are presented. We also provide experimental results to demonstrate the effectiveness of our checkpoint selection strategies, and finally points out some possible future issues in this research area.

The previous evolutionary clustering methods for time-evolving data usually adopt the temporal smoothness framework, which controls the balance between temporal noise and true concept drift of clusters. They, however, have two major drawbacks: (1) assuming a fixed number of clusters over time;(2) the penalty term may reduce the accuracy of the clustering. In this paper, a Multimodal Evolutionary Clustering (MEC) based on Differential Evolution (DE) is presented to cope with these problems. With an existing chromosome representation of the ACDE, the MEC automatically determines the cluster number at each time step. Moreover, instead of adopting the temporal smoothness framework, we try to deal with the problem from view of the multimodal optimization. That is, the species-based DE (SDE) for multimodal optimization is adopted in the MEC. Thus the MEC is a hybrid of the ACDE and the SDE, and designed for time-evolving data clustering. Experimental evaluation demonstrates the MEC achieves good results. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2015.

For the past few years, the research of intelligence model based on biologicalinformation processing mechanisms has become an important area of artificial intelligence. The biological information processing system is mainly composed of nervous system, immune system and endocrine system. There is not only large loop among them, but also direct reciprocity, which plays an important role in the growing development and metabolism of organisms and maintains their vital movement together. As an important part of information processing system in living organisms, the endocrine system contains very complex and particular information processing mechanisms, including hormonal regulation mechanism, information delivery mechanism and emotion reacting mechanism. Extracting these mechanisms which are peculiar to endocrine system and establishing corresponding models and algorithms has important research value, which has been a hot issue in the research field of artificial intelligence. Shibata presented a hormone-like mechanism with an emphasis on human-robot interaction. Shen proposed a bio-inspired control method called Digital Hormone Model (DHM) to control the tasking and executing of robot swarms based on local communication,signal propagation, and stochastic reactions. Neal and Timmis put forward artificial endocrine system (AES) for the first time in 2003. They proposed an artificial homeostasis system later. Motivated by the high-level regulation mechanism of endocrine system, an agent self-organization algorithm of behavior was put forward. A hormone based tracking strategy for mobile target tracking in wireless sensor networks was presented. © 2012 Springer-Verlag London Limited.

Cluster analysis is a major method to study gene function and gene regulation information for there is a lack of prior knowledge for gene data. Many clustering methods existed at present usually need manual operations or predetermined parameters, which are difficult for gene data. Besides, gene data possess their own characteristics, such as large scale, high-dimension, and noise. Therefore, a systematic clustering algorithm should be proposed to effectively deal with gene data. In this paper, a novel genetic programming (GP) clustering system for gene data based on hierarchical statistical model (HS-model) is proposed. And an appropriate fitness function is also proposed in this system. This clustering system can largely eliminate the infection of data scale and dimension. The proposed GP clustering system is applied to cluster the whole intact yeast gene data without dimensionality reduction. The experimental results indicate that the algorithm is highly efficient and can effectively deal with missing values in gene dataset. © 2010 IEEE.

Interactive population-based incremental learning (IPBIL) is an effective method to solve optimization problems with implicit performance indices. It can significantly reduce user fatigue compared with interactive evolutionary computation (IEC). However, each run of IPBIL can only find one solution or some similar solutions. Thus it is not suitable for multimodal optimization problems with implicit performance indices. To solve this problem, we propose an IPBIL with multiple probability vectors (IPBIL-MPV) in this work. The key idea is to utilize multiple probability vectors to catch different search directions and thus find more than one solutions. We perform a subjective experiment in which IPBIL-MPV is applied to a fashion design problem. The experimental results show that IPBIL-MPV can find several distinct solutions in a run. Thus it is an effective method to solve multimodal optimization problems with implicit performance indices. © 2010 IEEE.

Recently, the characterization of community structures in complex networks has received a considerable amount of attentions. Effective identification of these communities or clusters is a general problem in the field of data mining. In this paper we present a fast hierarchical agglomerative algorithm based on community closeness (FHACC) algorithm, for detecting community structure which is very efficient and faster than many other competing algorithms. FHACC tends to agglomerate such communities that share the most common vertices into larger ones. Its running time on a sparse network with n vertices and m edges is O(mk¯+mt), where k¯ denotes the mean vertex degree, and t is the iteration times of community agglomeration in FHACC algorithm. The algorithm was tested on several real-world networks and proved to be high efficient and effective in community finding. © 2010 IEEE.

Emotions are an important aspect of human intelligence and have been shown to play a significant role in human decision-making process. Researchers in areas such as psychology, neuroscience, cognitive science and artificial intelligence have proposed a variety of emotional models. However, most of the previous models have not solved the complexity of the human emotional system owing to the lack of an effective regulatory mechanism for controlling the emotions. To address the limitation, a hormone-modulated emotional model (HMEM) is presented. Since emotions are imprecise and uncertain in nature, fuzzy logic is employed in the computation of new emotion intensity. The reported experiments test HMEM within a simulated autonomous agent situated in a dynamic environment. Experimental results show that both the hormonal system and emotional system contribute positively to the survival of the agent. © 2010 IEEE.
