The priority queue model divides CR (cognitive radio) system users into primary user and secondary user. The primary user has preemptive priority over secondary user, while the same priority level users are FIFO served. This paper models the CR system based on scheduling technology. The secondary users are further divided into different priority levels. A hybrid priority dynamic policy, which indicates primary user's preemptive priority and secondary user's nonpreemptive priority, is developed to reduce spectrum switch overhead during spectrum leasing process. Theoretical analyzing shows that hybrid priority reduces the spectrum switch overhead and the hybrid priority improvement is a non-negative mono-increasing function of priority level. Based on the proposed policy, CR scheduling model is built and CR scheduling rule is provided and proved. Experimental comparison between CR scheduling and priority queue shows that CR scheduling gets a smaller weighted staying time sum than priority queue and the improvement increases as system becomes more congested.

A hierarchical MAS (multi-agent system) based on a multi-level discrete space and microscopic agent model for signal transduction network modeling and simulation was proposed. The space can effectively represent the heterogeneous cellular space, and is adaptable for systemic expansion. Moreover, the different deformations of one molecular species are packed in one mesoscopic molecule-agent, so that the global complexity is handled by the local state-space, reducing the external communications and computational complexity. The results from simulating two feedback models of MAPK (Mitogen-Activated Protein Kinase) pathway are similar to those of chemical kinetic model, showing the validity of this method.

A novel self-adaption strategy for the parameter epsiv in epsiv-MOEA is proposed in this paper based on the analyses of the relationship between the value of epsiv and the maximum number of non-dominated solutions. Then this novel strategy is applied in epsiv-MOEA and tested on 10 common benchmark functions. The experimental results demonstrate that even if without the good initial value for the parameter s, epsiv-MOEA with this self-adaption strategy (named Algorithm 1) is able to approximately obtain the expected number of non-dominated solutions, which are very close to and uniformly distributed on the Pareto-optimal front. Furthermore, the genetic drift phenomenon in Algorithm 1 is discussed Two cases of genetic drift are pointed out, and one case can be fixed up by a simple approach proposed in this paper.

At present, moving vehicle detection on airborne platform has been an important technology for urban traffic surveillance. In such a situation, most commonly used methods (e.g. image subtraction) could hardly work well because of some additional difficulties such as slow movement of vehicles and jam. This paper proposed a new moving vehicle detection method named MVD-RD for airborne urban traffic surveillance. First, the non-road regions are extracted using road detection technique. Secondly, the non-road regions with no vehicles are removed according to their size. As a result of this two-stage regions shrinkage, the detection area reduces a lot. Finally, to the reduced area, image subtraction is used to get all moving regions and then moving vehicles can be accurately filtered in a simple way. The experimental results show that, compared with traditional image subtraction methods used in airborne moving vehicle detection, the proposed MVD-RD method achieves much better performance in detection rate, false alarm rate, and detection speed.

Objective image quality assessment (QA) is a fundamental and challenging job in image processing which evaluates the image quality consistently with human perception automatically. Generally, an image can be segmented into two kinds of areas: structure and texture. And structural information plays a much more important role between the two. The pixels, edges and shape with directional characteristic contribute much more to the structural information. In this paper, the structural information is modeled as the energy of directional projection, which is shown in a directional projection-based map that is built by Radon transform. On the assumption that any image's distortion could be modeled as the difference between the directional projection-based maps of reference and distortion images, we propose a new objective quality assessment method with Radon transform for full reference model, and we also try to explore the feasibility to develop the image QA metrics with scalable efficiency and computational cost. Experimental results show that the proposed metrics are well consistent with the subjective quality score.

The ultimate purpose of a pedestrian-detection system (PDS) is to reduce pedestrian-vehicle-related injury. Most such systems tend to adopt expensive sensors, such as infrared devices, in expectation of better performance. In comparison, a low-cost optical-camera-based system has much potential practical value, including a greater detection range, and can easily be trained to detect other objects. However, such low-cost systems are difficult to design (e.g., little original information can be collected, and the scene is very complex). To address these problems, an effective and reliable classifier is needed. The classifier should have a proper structure, its features need to be well selected, and a large number of high-quality samples are necessary for training. In this paper, we present a low-cost PDS which only uses a single optical camera. We design a cascade classifier to achieve an effective and reliable detection. First, our system scans two sequential frames at each zoom scale with a sliding window. Second, with each window, both appearance and motion features are extracted. A well-trained cascade classifier, combining statistical learning with a decomposed support-vector-machine classifier, then determines whether the window contains a human body. At the same time, to provide as much information as possible about the pedestrian, a small-scale weighted template tree trained by a coevolutionary algorithm is adopted to identify each pedestrian's direction, and the distance of each from the vehicle is also provided using an estimation algorithm. During the training procedure, we select key features by using the AdaBoost algorithm and a large number of high-quality samples. Experimental results demonstrate that the system is suitable for pedestrian detection in city traffic: The detection speed is more than 10 ft/s, the detection rate reaches 80%, and the false positive rate is no more than 0.3‰. © 2008 IEEE.

The attack graph, a typical model-based method, is widely used in the field of network security evaluation. The biggest disadvantage of attack graph method is its exponential growth of the state space. This paper presents an efficient algorithm based on the malefactor's access level vector in every host of the network to generate a reduced attack graph in polynomial compute complexity. In this algorithm, the state space is reduced to O(nm) , where n is the number of nodes and m is the whole number of vulnerabilities in the network. We also present a standard method to generate attack templates from the vulnerabilities.

The goal of image categorization is to classify a collection of unlabeled images into a set of predefined classes to support semantic-level image retrieval. The distance measures used in most existing approaches either ignored the spatial structures or used them in a separate step. As a result, these distance measures achieved only limited success. To address these difficulties, in this paper, we propose a new distance measure that integrates joint appearance-spatial image features. Such a distance measure is computed as an upper bound of an information-theoretic discrimination, and can be computed efficiently in a recursive formulation that scales well to image size. In addition, the upper bound approximation can be further tightened via adaption learning from a universal reference model. Extensive experiments on two widely-used data sets show that the proposed approach significantly outperforms the state-of-the-art approaches.

The task of aircraft landing scheduling (ALS) is to give a landing sequence and landing times for a given set of aircrafts where many constraints must be satisfied. ALS is an NP-hard problem with large-scale and multi-constraint characteristics, thus it is hard to find optimal solution efficiently. In this paper, a hybrid algorithm of Clonal Selection Algorithm (CSA) and Receding Horizon Control (RHC) was proposed for ALS problem. In details, constrained CSA based on infeasibility degree (IFD) schedules aircrafts in current receding horizon, and then RHC repeats that optimization procedure using excellent gene segment spread (EGSS) until all aircrafts have landed. Comparative experiments show that the CSA-RHC hybrid algorithm is able to obtain an optimal landing sequence and landing times rapidly and effectively.

Classification is an essential technology in Pedestrian Detection System (PDS). Until now, single-classifier and basic cascaded classifier had been widely used in PDS;however, most of them can hardly satisfy the 3 requirements at the same time: high detection speed, high detection rate and low false positive rate. In this paper, we proposed an optimized hierarchical classifier which can satisfy the 3 requirements. The proposed method adopted Corse-to-fine and Early-rejection principles to achieve global high performance. It consists of two hierarchies, the first one is used to quickly reject non-pedestrian objects and select out only a few candidates;the second one makes further verification to these candidates. Furthermore, each hierarchy was optimized with statistical models basing on experiments;and each hierarchy is a treelike classifier which has specific optimization demands. At last, an overall performance evaluation standard is proposed, and the experimental results showed that the proposed classifier had better overall performance.
