Clustering problem is one of the hottest issues in wireless sensor networks (WSNs). The strategy for selection of cluster head has not been sufficiently investigated. In this paper,we propose a hormone-based clustering algorithm (HCA) inspired by the communication mechanism of bioendocrine system to prolong the lifetime of the sensor nodes. Two kinds of hormones,cluster hormone and member hormone,are used in the algorithm. Hormone message can promote a node to become a cluster head or a member node. Comparative experiment shows that the proposed algorithm has effectively prolong the lifetime of WSN compared with LEACH[1] and HEED[2].

The main goal in proteomics is to describe the proteome in a comprehensive and accurate way, and enzymolysis is a key step in the process of large-scale proteomics experiments. For the same protein samples, using different proteases may introduce a strong bias into protein analysis results. This situation will make proteomics experiments irreproducible and will have a serious impact on the experimental results. To reduce this protease bias, we present EMQ (Error-Minimization-based Quantification for Protein), an approach based on error minimization. In contrast to the existing method, our model includes information on shared peptides, which are ubiquitous in mass spectrometric datasets. The abundance of shared peptides will be assigned to related proteins accurately, thereby determining the protein abundance. Based on this feature, we used the proposed model with several datasets, and compared its performance with the other. Finally, our model is shown to have better performance than other approach (average Pearson correlation of ~0.83 obtained by EMQ, while ~0.63 by other model). © VDE VERLAG GMBH - Berlin - Offenbach.

Due to the conservative additive increase and multiplicative decrease strategy, traditional TCP has a severe problem in utilizing bandwidth over high-speed long-distance networks. This paper proposes a delay-based congestion control algorithm, named DFTCP, for these networks. DFTCP calculates a reasonable equilibrium point for a network flow based on the estimation of the maximum size of available buffers along its network path, and adjusts the congestion window size according to the distance between the equilibrium point and the current network state. The experimental results demonstrate that, the new algorithm performs well in terms of bandwidth utilization, intra-protocol fairness and RTT fairness, and exhibits reasonable friendliness to standard TCP.

In the wireless network of finite spectrum resource, some communication users probably do not allocate the spectrum so that their communication should be delayed. Thus it is necessary to arrange the communication time of the systems when we allocate the communication spectrum. We propose a games learning-bargaining algorithm to pre-allocate the communication resources in the frequency-time space. Through this distributed games learning, each user obtains its communication schedule, and the result of allocation is further improved by the bargaining process. The result of this algorithm makes the bandwidth utilization achieve a quite high level and arranges the global communication time as short as possible. Comparing with the centralized algorithm of NP-hard, this distributed algorithm has low time complexity. The experiments verify the convergence of the algorithm and present the superiorities of our results to other allocation algorithms.

Tumor type classification and candidate cancer-specific biomarkers discovery via semi-supervised learning

Identifying cancer-related differentially expressed genes provides significant information for diagnosing tumors, predicting prognoses, and effective treatments. Recently, deep learning methods have been used to perform gene differential expression analysis using microarray-based high-throughput gene profiling and have achieved good results. In this study, we proposed a new robust multiple-datasetsbased semi-supervised learning model, MSSL, to perform tumor type classification and candidate cancer-specific biomarkers discovery across multiple tumor types and multiple datasets, which addressed the following long-lasting obstacles:(1) the data volume of the existing single dataset is not enough to fully exert the advantages of deep learning;(2) a large number of datasets from different research institutions cannot be effectively used due to inconsistent internal variances and low quality;(3) relatively uncommon cancers have limited effects on deep learning methods. In our article, we applied MSSL to The Cancer Genome Atlas(TCGA) and the Gene Expression Comprehensive Database(GEO) pan-cancer normalized-level3 RNA-seq data and got 97.6% final classification accuracy, which had a significant performance leap compared with previous approaches. Finally, we got the ranking of the importance of the corresponding genes for each cancer type based on classification results and validated that the top genes selected in this way were biologically meaningful for corresponding tumors and some of them had been used as biomarkers, which showed the efficacy of our method.

There are many dynamic optimization problems in real-world applications. Although many variants of evolutionary algorithms and swarm intelligence have been proposed to solve such problems, little work has been conducted to address the dynamic constrained multimodal optimization problems (DCMMOPs). In DCMMOPs, there exist multiple optimal solutions corresponding to each environment that the algorithm is required to find. Sometimes, it is also necessary to identify the accepted local optima. Therefore, for each environment, the decision maker can select one from among multiple returned solutions according to his/her domain knowledge and/or preferences. The objective of this paper is to test the performance of various combinations of several population-based dynamic multimodal optimization algorithms and popular constraint handling techniques. First, the typical dynamic constrained optimization problems are slightly modified to be in the form of the dynamic constrained multimodal optimization problems. Second, four different population-based dynamic multimodal optimization algorithms, and five different constraint handling techniques, are pairwise tested in the experiments. Experimental results demonstrate that, among the candidates, DCMM-CSA-SR performs most successfully at all accuracy levels.

The memory scheme is one of the most widely employed techniques in Evolutionary Algorithms for solving dynamic optimization problems. The updating strategy is a key concern for the memory scheme. Unfortunately, the existent memory updating strategies neglect the characteristics of the memory updating behaviors, and sometimes this could lead results against the original intention. In this paper, a novel updating strategy is proposed, which can adaptively update the memory according to the characteristics of the memory updating behaviors. Experiments are carried out in different kinds of dynamic environments, and the experimental results show that the proposed strategy is better than the traditional strategies.

This paper proposes an energy-efficient and collision-free medium access control protocol TDMA-WSN for wireless sensor networks. The protocol is based on time division multiple access (TDMA) principle and reduces energy consumption by avoiding overhearing, collision and idle listening. Nodes in TDMA-WSN build schedules based on information about their neighborhood to determine when they can transmit to their neighbors and when they should listen to the channel or sleep. TDMA-WSN proposes a novel resolution with three-d-hop neighborhood information to avoid collision caused by the two-hop collision-free principle used in some protocols. TDMA-WSN can accelerate passing message by arranging schedule based on routing information from the upper-layer. The simulation results indicate that TDMA-WSN outperforms contention-based protocols (e.g., S-MAC) and scheduling-based protocols (e.g., NAMA) with significant energy savings.

The Aircraft Landing Scheduling (ALS) problem is a typical hard multi-constraint optimization problem. In real applications, it is not most important to find the best solution but to provide a feasible landing schedule in an acceptable time. We propose a novel approach which can effectively solve the ALS while satisfying the real-time need. It consists of two steps: (i) Use CA to simulate the landing process in the terminal airspace and to find a considerably good landing sequence;(ii) a simple Genetic Algorithm associated with a Relaxation Operator is used to obtain a better result based on the CA result. Experiments have shown that our method is much faster and suitable for real-time ALS problem compared with traditional optimization methods. For all the 13 data sets, the proposed approach can find satisfactory solutions in less than 2 seconds. Copyright 2009 ACM.

A fundamental issue in wireless sensor network is to extend network lifetime while maintaining network coverage and connectivity. Protection for sensors themselves is another important concern. An Energyaware Coverage based Node Scheduling scheme (ECNS) is proposed to provide protection for sensors and guarantees network connectivity and desired coverage level. ECNS enables each node to decide whether it is eligible to turn off to conserve energy through local information exchange with its neighbors. Simulation results show that ECNS improves network performance with respect to energy conservation, load balance and network lifetime.
