In recent decade, the research in nanotechnology brought the idea of nanofluids which are highly conducting materials. Some important applications of nanofluids are justified in pharmaceutical industry, coolants in vehicles engine, preparation process of various medicines for treatment of fatal diseases like cancer, aircraft industry, latest heat exchangers etc. The ferro particles are special class of nanomaterial which attract variety of interest from the researchers. The objective of current research is to perform the investigation for heat and mass transfer subject to Carreau nanofluid to observe the enhancement of heat transmission phenomena. The induction of magnetic dipole has been observed for thermal transport phenomenon. The flow is causing by stretched surface. A simplified system is obtained by utilizing the dimensionless variables. Physical interpretation of results have been presented. Result showed that temperature profile in presence of ferrofluid fluid boosts up with escalation in thermophoresis parameter, while opposite behavior is noted for power law index. The concentration of ferrofluid showing declining behavior for Schmidt numbers and rises for thermophoresis parameter. © 2024

One of the popular metaheuristic search algorithms is Harmony Search (HS). It has been verified that HS can find solutions to optimization problems due to its balanced exploratory and convergence behavior and its simple and flexible structure. This capability makes the algorithm preferable to be applied in several real-world applications in various fields, including healthcare systems, different engineering fields, and computer science. The popularity of HS urges us to provide a comprehensive survey of the literature on HS and its variants on health systems, analyze its strengths and weaknesses, and suggest future research directions. In this review paper, the current studies and uses of harmony search are studied in four main domains. (i) The variants of HS, including its modifications and hybridization. (ii) Summary of the previous review works. (iii) Applications of HS in healthcare systems. (iv) And finally, an operational framework is proposed for the applications of HS in healthcare systems. The main contribution of this review is intended to provide a thorough examination of HS in healthcare systems while also serving as a valuable resource for prospective scholars who want to investigate or implement this method. © 2022, CC BY.

Reduced basis methods for numerical room acoustic simulations with parametrized boundaries

The use of model-based numerical simulation of wave propagation in rooms for engineering applications requires that acoustic conditions for multiple parameters are evaluated iteratively and this is computationally expensive. We present a reduced basis methods (RBM) to achieve a computational cost reduction relative to a traditional full order model (FOM), for wave-based room acoustic simulations with parametrized boundary conditions. In this study, the FOM solver is based on the spectral element method, however other numerical methods could be applied. The RBM reduces the computational burden by solving the problem in a low-dimensional subspace for parametrized frequency-independent and frequency-dependent boundary conditions. The problem is formulated and solved in the Laplace domain, which ensures the stability of the reduced order model based on the RBM approach. We study the potential of the proposed RBM framework in terms of computational efficiency, accuracy and storage requirements and we show that the RBM leads to 100-fold speed-ups for a 2D case with an upper frequency of 2kHz and around 1000-fold speed-ups for an analogous 3D case with an upper frequency of 1kHz. While the FOM simulations needed to construct the ROM are expensive, we demonstrate that despite this cost, the ROM has a potential of three orders of magnitude faster than the FOM when four different boundary conditions are simulated per room surface. Moreover, results show that the storage model for the ROM is relatively high but affordable for the presented 2D and 3D cases. © 2021, CC BY-NC-ND.

We present OMPRACER, a static tool that uses flow-sensitive, interprocedural analysis to detect data races in OpenMP programs. OMPRACER is fast, scalable, has high code coverage, and supports the most common OpenMP features by combining state-of-the-art pointer analysis, novel value-flow analysis, happens-before tracking, and generalized modelling of OpenMP APIs. Unlike dynamic tools that currently dominate data race detection, OMPRACER achieves almost 100% code coverage using static analysis to detect a broader category of races without running the program or relying on specific input or runtime behaviour. OMPRACER has competitive precision with dynamic tools like Archer and ROMP: passing 105/116 cases in DataRaceBench with a total accuracy of 91%. OMPRACER has been used to analyze several Exascale computing Project proxy applications containing over 2 million lines of code in under 10 minutes. OMPRACER has revealed previously unknown races in an ECP proxy app and a production simulation for COVID19.

The increased variability and adopted low supply voltages render nanometer devices prone to timing failures, which threaten the functionality of digital circuits. Recent schemes focused on developing instruction-aware failure prediction models and adapting voltage/frequency to avoid errors while saving energy. However, such schemes may be inaccurate when applied to pipelined cores since they consider only the currently executed instruction and the preceding one, thereby neglecting the impact of all the concurrently executing instructions on failure occurrence. In this paper, we first demonstrate that the order and type of instructions in sequences with a length equal to the pipeline depth affect significantly the failure rate. To overcome the practically impossible evaluation of the impact of all possible sequences on failures, we present DEFCON, a fully automated framework that stochastically searches for the most failure-prone instruction sequences (ISQs). DEFCON generates such sequences by integrating a properly formulated genetic algorithm with accurate post-layout dynamic timing analysis, considering the data-dependent path sensitization and instruction execution history. The generated micro-architecture aware ISQs are then used by DEFCON to estimate the failure vulnerability of any application. To evaluate the efficacy of the proposed framework, we implement a pipelined floating-point unit and perform dynamic timing analysis based on input data that we extract from a variety of applications consisting of up-to 43.5M ISQs. Our results show that DEFCON reveals quickly ISQs that maximize the output quality loss and correctly detects 99.7% of the actual faulty ISQs in different applications under various levels of variation-induced delay increase. Finally, DEFCON enable us to identify failure-prone ISQs early at the design cycle, and save 26.8% of energy on average when combined with a clock stretching mechanism.

This paper discusses parGeMSLR, a C++/MPI software library for the solution of sparse systems of linear algebraic equations via preconditioned Krylov subspace methods in distributed-memory computing environments. The preconditioner implemented in parGeMSLR is based on algebraic domain decomposition and partitions the symmetrized adjacency graph recursively into several non-overlapping partitions via a p-way vertex separator, where p is an integer multiple of the total number of MPI processes. From a numerical perspective, parGeMSLR builds a Schur complement approximate inverse preconditioner as the sum between the matrix inverse of the interface coupling matrix and a low-rank correction term. To reduce the cost associated with the computation of the approximate inverse matrices, parGeMSLR exploits a multilevel partitioning of the algebraic domain. The parGeMSLR library is implemented on top of the Message Passing Interface and can solve both real and complex linear systems. Furthermore, parGeMSLR can take advantage of hybrid computing environments with in-node access to one or more Graphics Processing Units. Finally, the parallel efficiency (weak and strong scaling) of parGeMSLR is demonstrated on a few model problems arising from discretizations of 3D Partial Differential Equations. Performance of a parallel code running on a large supercomputer can vary significantly from one run to another even when the executable and its input parameters are left unchanged. Such variability can occur due to perturbation of the computation and/or communication in the code. In this paper, we investigate the case of performance variability arising due to network effects on supercomputers that use a dragonfly topology - specifically, Cray XC systems equipped with the Aries interconnect. We perform post-mortem analysis of network hardware counters, profiling output, job queue logs, and placement information, all gathered from periodic representative application runs. We investigate the causes of performance variability using deviation prediction and recursive feature elimination. Additionally, using time-stepped performance data of individual applications, we train machine learning models that can forecast the execution time of future time steps.

Turbulent compressible flows are traditionally simulated using explicit time integrators applied to discretized versions of the Navier-Stokes equations. However, the associated Courant-Friedrichs-Lewy condition severely restricts the maximum time-step size. Exploiting the Lagrangian nature of the Boltzmann equation's material derivative, we now introduce a feasible three-dimensional semi-Lagrangian lattice Boltzmann method (SLLBM), which circumvents this restriction. While many lattice Boltzmann methods for compressible flows were restricted to two dimensions due to the enormous number of discrete velocities in three dimensions, the SLLBM uses only 45 discrete velocities. Based on compressible Taylor-Green vortex simulations we show that the new method accurately captures shocks or shocklets as well as turbulence in 3D without utilizing additional filtering or stabilizing techniques other than the filtering introduced by the interpolation, even when the time-step sizes are up to two orders of magnitude larger compared to simulations in the literature. Our new method therefore enables researchers to study compressible turbulent flows by a fully explicit scheme, whose range of admissible time-step sizes is dictated by physics rather than spatial discretization.

The 2024 Quantum computing, Math and Physics Camp (QCaMP) for Students was a 4-week long summer camp aimed at introducing high school students to quantum concepts and careers, including applications spanning quantum computing, sensing, and communication. The program ran for 7 hours/day, Monday–Friday, July 1–26, and included hands-on modules and activities, professional development, and project-based learning. Owing to rapid progress in field of nanotechnology, various mathematical model has been proposed regarding the flow of nanofluids. Based on boosted thermal properties, multidisciplinary applications of such materials has been claimed in various engineering and industrial processes. In current work, a theoretical analysis is performed for bioconvective flow of Carreau fluid with applications of magnetic dipole. The significance of magnetic dipole are presented with interaction of ferrofluid. The applications of viscous dissipation have also been entertained. The flow is subject to applications of stretched surface. Similarity variables are used for making transformation to obtain set of nonlinear ODEs from set of PDEs. The numerical computation is also made by using of well-known numerical method termed as bvp4c. Influences of various non dimensional fluid parameters like Brownian motion, viscous dissipation, Curie temperature, Weissenberg number, motile difference parameter and bioconvection Paclet number are examined and expressed graphically. It is perceived that ferrofluid's concentration declines when Brownian diffusive variable is augmented while opposite characteristics are reported for Schmidt number. Current results conveying applications in the biofuels, better heat transport medium, fertilizers, catalysts, electronics, paints, semiconductors, speakers, drug delivery, fertilizers etc. © 2024 The Author(s)
