Divide-and-train: A new approach to improve the predictive tasks of bike-sharing systems

Bike-sharing systems (BSSs) have become commonplace in most cities worldwide as an important part of many smart cities. These systems generate a continuous amount of large data volumes. The effectiveness of these BSS systems depends on making decisions at the proper time. Thus, there is a vital need to build predictive models on the BSS data for the sake of improving the process of decision-making. The overwhelming majority of BSS users register before utilizing the service. Thus, several BSSs have prior knowledge of the user’s data, such as age, gender, and other relevant details. Several machine learning and deep learning models, for instance, are used to predict urban flows, trip duration, and other factors. The standard practice for these models is to train on the entire dataset to build a predictive model, whereas the biking patterns of various users are intuitively distinct. For instance, the user’s age influences the duration of a trip. This endeavor was motivated by the existence of distinct user patterns. In this work, we proposed divide-and-train, a new method for training predictive models on station-based BSS datasets by dividing the original datasets on the values of a given dataset attribute. Then, the proposed method was validated on different machine learning and deep learning models. All employed models were trained on both the complete and split datasets. The enhancements made to the evaluation metric were then reported. Results demonstrated that the proposed method outperformed the conventional training approach. Specifically, the root mean squared error (RMSE) and mean absolute error (MAE) metrics have shown improvements in both trip duration and distance prediction, with an average accuracy of 85% across the divided sub-datasets for the best performing model, i.e., random forest. © 2024 the Author(s).

This paper is dedicated to study for the first time the concept of square 2 × 2 fuzzy and anti-fuzzy two-fold matrix with real entries, where we present the two-fold algebraic operations between the these matrices and obtain their special properties such as associativity, commutative properties, and the existing of additive of multiplicative inverses. In addition to traditional approaches, several computerized techniques have been developed to enhance the results. The automation in the medical domain considerably reduced the burden and improved disease diagnosis, treatment planning, and implementation. With the advent of automation, the medical domain has greatly reduced the burden of diagnosing diseases, developing treatment plans, and implementing them. This research aims to develop image-processing assisted detection of Diabetic Foot Ulcer (DF) from digital photographs. Digital photographs are used to assist in diagnosing Diabetic Foot Ulcer (DF). As part of the developed tool, (i) images are collected and resized, (ii) Otsu/Kapur and Hummingbird-optimizer thresholding is supported, (iii) level-set segmentation is used to extract the DF region, and (iv) the developed scheme is compared with the binary mask and its performance is verified. A total of 300 images are examined in this work, and MATLAB software is used to conduct the experiments. Comparing Otsu + LS with Kapur + LS, the overall result achieved with Kapur’s enhanced image is better than that of Otsu + LS. Authentic clinical DF images can be used to verify the proposed scheme in the future. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

Children’s performance on the spoonerism task, a behavioral test that measures phonological processing skills, predicts reading abilities and related disorders. However, this rela-tionship between phonological processing skills and dyslexia has been primarily examined based on behavioral responses to the spoonerism task. As a result, there is a growing interest in developmental neuroscience to explore the neural origins of this relationship and its relation to reading difficulties. Yet, traditional electroencephalography (EEG) analysis methods had little success identifying informative neural components that depict neural differences in children with reading disorders during spoonerism. The current study explores a novel computational approach to isolate informative neural signatures elicited during the spoonerism test. We apply our method to EEG data obtained from a group of children with dyslexia and controls during the execution of a spoonerism task. Our findings demonstrate that our method extracts components that characterize the neural origins of complex cognitive phonological processes, explains differences between children with dyslexia and controls, and generates novel insights into the neural underpinnings of dyslexia in children. © 2023 by the authors. The Fiat-Shamir with Aborts paradigm of Lyubashevsky introduced efficient lattice based signatures. We have used lattice based signature to design post quantum blockchain design. But the blockchain is always consisting of many nodes depending upon participants, then we require an efficient aggregate signature technique to verify nodes efficiently. We have designed a blockchain using fast post quntum secure tool called module lattices. Module lattices provide both security and efficiency based on two assumptions, (1) Module Learning With Errors, and (2) Module Short Integer Solution respectively. The proposed blockchain design ensures security of Internet of Things devices against quantum attacks. The design provides a better secure environment for Internet of Things. Blockchain technology has been used to combine fixed number of IoT nodes. This makes the communication efficient, and the aggregate signature has been used to provide the security to the given architecture. © 2024 The Author(s).

The design of a new adaptive version of the multiple dependent state(AMDS)sampling plan is presented based on the time truncated life test under the Weibull *** achieved the proposed sampling plan by applying the concept of the double sampling plan and existing multiple dependent state sampling plans.A warning sign for acceptance number was proposed to increase the probability of current lot *** optimal plan parameters were determined simultaneously with nonlinear optimization problems under the producer’s risk and consumer’s risk.A simulation study was presented to support the proposed sampling plan.A comparison between the proposed and existing sampling plans,namely multiple dependent state(MDS)sampling plans and a modified multiple dependent state(MMDS)sampling plan,was considered under the average sampling number and operating characteristic curve *** addition,the use of two real datasets demonstrated the practicality and usefulness of the proposed sampling *** results indicated that the proposed plan is more flexible and efficient in terms of the average sample number compared to the existing MDS and MMDS sampling plans.

Timetabling problem is among the most difficult operational tasks and is an important step in raising industrial productivity,capability,and *** tasks are usually tackled using metaheuristics techniques that provide an intelligent way of suggesting solutions or *** intelligence techniques including Particle Swarm Optimization(PSO)have proved to be effective *** recent experiments showed that the PSO algorithm is reliable for timetabling in many applications such as educational and personnel timetabling,machine scheduling,***,having an optimal solution is extremely challenging but having a sub-optimal solution using heuristics or metaheuristics is *** research paper seeks the enhancement of the PSO algorithm for an efficient timetabling *** algorithm aims at generating a feasible timetable within a reasonable *** enhanced version is a hybrid dynamic adaptive PSO algorithm that is tested on a round-robin tournament known as ITC2021 which is dedicated to sports *** competition includes several soft and hard constraints to be satisfied in order to build a feasible or sub-optimal *** consists of three categories of complexities,namely early,test,and middle *** showed that the proposed dynamic adaptive PSO has obtained feasible timetables for almost all of the *** feasibility is measured by minimizing the violation of hard constraints to *** performance of the dynamic adaptive PSO is evaluated by the consumed computational time to produce a solution of feasible timetable,consistency,and *** dynamic adaptive PSO showed a robust and consistent performance in producing a diversity of timetables in a reasonable computational time.

The manuscript presents new methodologies for process characterization and control tuning for integrated systems. Integrative systems are widespread in the industrial environment. Some control systems for level, pressure, concentration, and temperature are examples. Although many papers have been published on the subject, no standard has been established, so this remains an open problem. The proposed characterization method consists of deriving the response of the integrating system and applying characterization techniques for self-regulated processes. The proposed tuning method is based on deducing tuning equations for a PD control from the λ tuning rules.
