Generating accurate and consistent visual aids is a critical challenge in mathematics education, where visual representations like geometric shapes and functions play a pivotal role in enhancing student comprehension. This paper introduces a novel multi-agent framework that leverages Large Language Models (LLMs) to automate the creation of complex mathematical visualizations alongside coherent problem text. Our approach not only simplifies the generation of precise visual aids but also aligns these aids with the problem’s core mathematical concepts, improving both problem creation and assessment. By integrating multiple agents, each responsible for distinct tasks—such as numeric calculation, geometry validation, and visualization—our system delivers mathematically accurate and contextually relevant problems with visual aids. Evaluation across Geometry and Function problem types shows that our method significantly outperforms basic LLMs in terms of text coherence, consistency, relevance and similarity, while maintaining the essential geometrical and functional integrity of the original problems. Although some challenges remain in ensuring consistent visual outputs, our framework demonstrates the immense potential of LLMs in transforming the way educators generate and utilize visual aids in math education. © 2024 J. In this work, we focus on outdoor lighting estimation by aggregating individual noisy estimates from images, exploiting the rich image information from wide-angle cameras and/or temporal image sequences. Photographs inherently encode information about the scene’s lighting in the form of shading and shadows. Whereas computer graphic (CG) methods target accurately reproducing the image formation process knowing the exact lighting in the scene, the inverse rendering is an ill-posed problem attempting to estimate the geometry, material, and lighting behind a recorded 2D picture. Recent work based on deep neural networks has shown promising results for single image lighting estimation despite its difficulty. However, the main challenge remains on the stability of measurements. We tackle this problem by combining lighting estimates from many image views sampled in the angular and temporal domain of an image sequence. Thereby, we make efficient use of the camera calibration and camera ego-motion estimation to globally register the individual estimates and apply outlier removal and filtering algorithms. Our method not only improves the stability for rendering applications like virtual object augmentation but also shows higher accuracy for single image based lighting estimation compared to the state-of-the-art. © 2021, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Segmenting page images into text lines is a crucial pre-processing step for automated reading of historical documents. Challenging issues in this open research field are given e.g. by paper or parchment background noise, ink bleed-through, artifacts due to aging, stains, and touching text lines. In this paper, we present a novel binarization-free line segmentation method that is robust to noise and copes with overlapping and touching text lines. First, interest points representing parts of characters are extracted from gray-scale images. Next, word clusters are identified in high-density regions and touching components such as ascenders and descenders are separated using seam carving. Finally, text lines are generated by concatenating neighboring word clusters, where neighborhood is defined by the prevailing orientation of the words in the document. An experimental evaluation on the Latin manuscript images of the Saint Gall database shows promising results for real-world applications in terms of both accuracy and efficiency. © 2012 IEEE.

The detection and segmentation of polyps during colonoscopy can substantially contribute to the prevention of colon cancer. Assisting clinicians using automated systems can mitigate the risk of human error. In this work, we present our polyp segmentation approach, submitted to the EndoCV2022 challenge. Common polyp segmentation methods are based on single-model, single-frame predictions. This work presents a symbiosis of three separate models, each with their own strength, as part of a segmentation pipeline and a post-processing step designed to leverage unique predictions for more temporally coherent results. © 2022 Copyright for this paper by its authors. The See Color interface transforms a small portion of a coloured video image into sound sources represented by spatialised musical instruments. Basically, the conversion of colours into sounds is achieved by quantisation of the HSL (Hue, Saturation and Luminosity) colour system. Our purpose is to provide visually impaired individuals with a capability of perception of the environment in real time. In this work we present the system's principles of design and several experiments that have been carried out by several blindfolded persons. The goal of the first experiment was to identify the colours of main features in static pictures in order to interpret the image scenes. Participants found that colours were helpful to limit the possible image interpretations. Afterwards, two experiments based on a head mounted camera have been performed. The first experiment pertains to object manipulation. It is based on the pairing of coloured socks, while the second experiment is related to outdoor navigation with the goal of following a coloured sinuous path painted on the ground. The socks experiment demonstrated that blindfolded individuals were able to accurately match pairs of coloured socks. The same participants successfully followed a red serpentine path painted on the ground for more than 80 meters. Finally, we propose an original approach for a real time alerting system, based on the detection of visual salient parts in videos. The particularity of our approach lies in the use of a new feature map constructed from the depth gradient. From the computed feature maps we infer conspicuity maps that indicate areas that are appreciably different from their surrounding. Then a specific distance function is described, which takes into account both stereoscopic camera limitations and user's choices. We also report how we automatically estimate the relative contribution of each conspicuity map, which enables the unsupervised determination of the final saliency map, indicating the

In manufacturing, inspection and measurement systems have long been desired to be able to measure as many kinds of parts as possible without treating the surface. Specifically, measuring shiny parts has been a big challenge for optical metrology because of double-bounced light - a phenomenon that light can be reflected from an area to another on the surface. The unwanted light will result in higher noise and can even make the measured results unacceptable. Traditionally, a polarizer is placed in front of both the light sources and the camera. After properly adjusting the polarizer in front of the camera, the double bounced reflected light can be blocked to some degree while the normally reflected light can go through. By this way, the extra reflections can be reduced but not totally eliminated. This paper presents a new method to totally eliminate double bounced light. Here, color light sources are used to illuminate the part and multiple cameras are used to measure different areas. Each camera views through an appropriate color filter so that only a certain color light is seen. The measured results from all cameras are then merged together to create the complete image. This method is more efficient than the traditional solution that uses polarizers. Both measurement principle and some results are given.

Scene acquisition using RGB and Near Infra-Red (NIR) filters generates useful visual information about scene contents. But it induces significant intensity and textural changes between RGB and NIR images of the same scene. It becomes a challenging problem to perform interest point based image matching under such intensity and textural changes. To cope with this problem, a novel method for the description of interest points is proposed. The method proposed is based on Center Symmetric-Local Binary Patterns (CS-LBP) which extracts distinct image features from intensity and gradient magnitude maps of the image patches centered at interest points. Those features are then used in the SIFT algorithm to compute robust descriptors against intensity and textural changes. The experimental results show that the method proposed improves the descriptor matching between RGB and NIR images and achieves better image matching results than CS-LBP and SIFT based methods for the description of interest points.

As the development towards fully automated driving continues, passenger trust in automation and human well-being when using advanced driver assistance systems will become increasingly important. To support the existing data-driven development process, systems for acquiring perceptual data such as from camera and LiDAR along with physiological and subjective information will be required in the future. The simultaneous recording of physiological signals alongside data from traditional perception sensors can therefore help to identify scenarios in which passengers are stressed, have an increased workload, or feel unsafe. By recording questionnaires in parallel, it is possible to also correlate the physiological signals with passengers’ subjective perception. The combination of these signal sources makes it possible to identify causes of drivers’ increased workload in the environmental data, describe development targets, and safeguard rules for future assistance systems and automated driving functions, keeping humans in the loop. Here, we present an approach for the simultaneous acquisition of sensor information from multiple domains such as physiological measurement data, environmental sensors, vehicle-internal communication, and subjective questionnaires, paying attention to an unobtrusive measurement setup. We demonstrate the benefits of our approach by identifying a relevant scenario in real traffic conditions in which we observe the impact on the driver’s physiological parameters.
