This paper presents two new algorithms for solving multivalued variational inequality problems in a real Hilbert space. By combining the nonexpansiveness of proximal operators associated with the proper lower semicontinuous convex function of the problems and inertial techniques, we demonstrate the weak convergence of the iteration sequences generated by our first algorithm under monotone and Lipschitz continuous assumptions of the cost mappings. Next, we use Mann iteration technique to obtain the second algorithm and show its strong convergence. Finally, we give some numerical results for two proposed algorithms and comparison with some other known algorithms. ©2024 applied Set-Valued Analysis and Optimization.

Introduction: With advancements in sensor and communication technologies, sleep monitoring is moving out of specialized clinics and into everyday homes. Extracting sleep-related data using far less complicated tools and procedures is possible than polysomnography. Respiratory and cardiovascular data are extracted from the signals such as the electrocardiogram (ECG), photoplethysmogram (PPG), and ballistocardiogram (BCG) to identify the aberrant respiratory events of apnea/hypopnea as well as to estimate sleep parameters. However, due to the different sleeping positions, such systems lack accuracy and/or complicated sensor network topology. In this work, we proposed an optimal topology of forcesensitive resistor (FSR) sensors to simplify the system design by identifying the region of interest for estimating cardiorespiratory parameters with minimal error. The sensors are deployed under the mattress and located on the bed frame. Methods: We proposed a low-cost, unobtrusive, non-invasive, and reliable solution with robust signal processing algorithms for cardiorespiratory measurements and automatic signal validation based on signal quality. The solution is established based on a multi-physical layer (MPL) and sensor interfaces coping with the embedded system's specifications, and signal processing is performed onboard with two independent and simultaneous pipelines for heart rate and respiratory rate using discrete wavelet transform (DWT) and bandpass filter, respectively. Results: We identified the three most contributing FSR sensors forming a triangle shape covering the left upper side of the subject (in the supine position) as the region of interest. We reduced the mean absolute error (MAE) to as low as 3.94 and 2.35 for heart rate and respiratory rate. Conclusions: The approach with the topology of triangle-shaped performs appropriately in estimating the cardiorespiratory parameters in all four regular sleeping positions, i.e. supine, prone, left lateral, and right

As novel mixed reality devices are developed, the use case of augmented reality display extension becomes feasible. Especially, in a visual data analysis use case, users can then benefit from expanding the conventional screen space using augmented reality head-mounted displays. This opens up the discussion of suitable placement of user interface elements in this extended augmented reality space. This includes questions about customisability, interaction, and moving elements across the borders of a desktop screen. Therefore, we present design considerations on layout and interaction with augmented reality extended displays and propose a system that employs the discussed techniques to support the data analysis process. © 2022 Copyright for this paper by its authors.

Stereoselective recognition of morphine enantiomers by μ-opioid receptor

Stereospecific recognition of chiral molecules plays a crucial role in biological systems. The μ-opioid receptor（MOR） exhibits binding affinity towards（-）-morphine, a well-established gold standard in pain management, while it shows minimal binding affinity for the（+）-morphine enantiomer, resulting in a lack of analgesic activity. Understanding how MOR stereoselectively recognizes morphine enantiomers has remained a puzzle in neuroscience and pharmacology for over half-a-century due to the lack of direct observation techniques. To unravel this mystery, we constructed the binding and unbinding processes of morphine enantiomers with MOR via molecular dynamics simulations to investigate the thermodynamics and kinetics governing MOR's stereoselective recognition of morphine enantiomers. Our findings reveal that the binding of（-）-morphine stabilizes MOR in its activated state, exhibiting a deep energy well and a prolonged residence time. In contrast,（+）-morphine fails to sustain the activation state of ***, the results suggest that specific residues, namely D1142.50and D1473.32, are deprotonated in the active state of MOR bound to（-）-morphine. This work highlights that the selectivity in molecular recognition goes beyond binding affinities, extending into the realm of residence time.

PDF inaccessibility is an ongoing challenge that hinders individuals with visual impairments from reading and navigating PDFs using screen readers. This paper presents a step-by-step process for both novice and experienced users to create accessible PDF documents, including an approach for creating alternative text for mathematical formulas without expert knowledge. In a study involving nineteen participants, we evaluated our prototype PAVE 2.0 by comparing it against Adobe Acrobat Pro, the existing standard for remediating PDFs. Our study shows that experienced users improved their tagging scores from 42.0% to 80.1%, and novice users from 39.2% to 75.2% with PAVE 2.0. Overall, fifteen participants stated that they would prefer to use PAVE 2.0 in the future, and all participants would recommend it for novice users. Our work demonstrates PAVE 2.0's potential for increasing PDF accessibility for people with visual impairments and highlights remaining challenges. © 2025 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

The monitoring of a patient's heart rate (HR) is critical in the diagnosis of diseases. In the detection of sleep disorders, it also plays an important role. Several techniques have been proposed, including using sensors to record physiological signals that are automatically examined and analysed. This work aims to evaluate using a contactless HR monitoring system based on an accelerometer sensor during sleep. For this purpose, the oscillations caused by chest movements during heart contractions are recorded by an installation mounted under the bed mattress. The processing algorithm presented in this paper filters the signals and determines the HR. As a result, an average error of about 5 bpm has been documented, i.e., the system can be considered to be used for the forecasted domain. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

As fraudulent transaction methods evolve rapidly;it becomes progressively more challenging to detect them in payment systems. Static machine learning and rule-based traditional detection methods cannot capture all the dynamic and evolving nature of fraudulent behaviors, resulting in lower detection accuracy and a higher false positive rate. This study proposes a complete framework that brings together advanced data preprocessing, effective drift detection, and a reliable detection model to address these issues. The method uses Mutual Information and SelectKBest for selecting important features, applies ADASYN to handle class imbalance, and adopts Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) to capture complex transaction patterns. By implementing Early Drift Detection Method (EDDM) and ADaptive WINdowing (ADWIN), the drift can be detected in advance and the system can respond to changes, both gradual and *** framework was evaluated on three datasets, including real-world transactions and mixed-data environments, achieving superior accuracy, precision, and drift detection rates, with values up to 99.99% accuracy and 1.0 respectively. The findings show that the framework can adjust to changing patterns of fraud, reduce false positives, and enhance detection performance. These insights demonstrate the significance of dynamic preprocessing and drift-aware approaches in the context of real-time fraud detection. This also serves as a basis for future work in adaptive fraud detection model research areas such as of integrating online learning for improved speed and efficiency in high-frequency transactional environments. © 2013 IEEE.

Platform cooperatives have recently emerged as an alternative to traditional capitalistic platform models. They aim to create economic value for their members and contribute to the social sustainability of the (local) communities, and, consequently, have been regarded as a more beneficial form of the sharing economy. Our research explores the characteristics related to fairness and equity in platform cooperatives as an initial step. Guided by prior work, we identified nine key fairness criteria and analyzed 30 platform cooperatives, mapping their characteristics into a taxonomy. We subsequently interviewed 17 members of three platform cooperatives to reflect on these fairness categories within their platforms. Our findings highlight the importance of equity, trust, and a sense of community for platform cooperative members to ensure fairness. Ultimately, we draw a set of design recommendations for each taxonomy criterion, offering practical guidance for platform owners and user experience designers to bolster fairness within platform co-ops. © 2025 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

A data-centric approach to terminal unit’s fault categorization and optimal positioning in building HVAC systems using ensemble learning

This paper focuses on the fault detection and diagnosis of terminal units (TUs) in a building located in London, utilizing real operational historical data to assess their performance and optimal placement across multiple floors. While precise locations of the TUs are unavailable, our method analyzes their operational behaviour for one month, applying popular machine learning models to detect and analyze faults effectively. By examining each TU individually and in the aggregate, we identify behavioural patterns that inform decisions regarding their positioning within the building. The dataset comprises over 2 million data points collected from 730 TUs, enabling a comprehensive analysis of their functionality and the impact of suboptimal thermostat placements. Our study employs three machine learning models-traditional multi-class Support Vector Machines and two ensemble methods: Random Forest (RF), and Adaptive Boosting (AdaBoost)-to classify TU behaviors into normal operation, heating faults, and cooling faults. Results indicate that RF outperforms the other models with an accuracy of 99.89%, while AdaBoost achieves an accuracy of 85% and SVM shows 47% accuracy. The findings underscore the potential of a data-driven approach to inform retrofitting decisions and enhance the reliability of HVAC systems. This research contributes valuable knowledge toward optimizing TU placement, ultimately leading to improved energy efficiency and indoor environmental quality.
